Is it true you can only use a maximum 8gb memory card!, if so this is pathetic why cant you use a 16gb card for a 8mega pixel camera & recording video & having a a few hundred mp3’s there will be no room for anything else like movies & tv programs. Why Why Why do company block you from choosing the size of memory card you want, the 16gb spec have been out for ages.

Anonymous, 05 Nov 2008Does this phone come with a turn-by-turn navigation program... moreThere is no turn by turn nav, only google map. There is no 3rd party nav-software available to download due to its incompatible Operating system. I have searched many sites to find one but couldnt find any. Till LG makes any firmware update for the phone.
The battery life is not as good as it is been stated in its secifications. The phone needs to be charged every day. It is quite dissipointes since in its manual the battery life is been stated as
350 ( 14.5 days) hours on standby or 220 minutes of talktime (about 9 days).

Does this phone come with a turn-by-turn navigation program, or only with Google Maps, or with nothing? And if it doesn't have a real navigation program, can we install a 3rd party program to the phone?

Some more of my experience using the phone:
I've got the GPS working, the jogging buddy app built in is pretty basic, but works.
My provider Orange has removed the maps app. Thanks. But i downloaded java app Mobile GMaps (http://www.mgmaps.com/)Freeware and it works. +cost from provider for data charges. Difficult to control the tiny on screen menus and controls, but it does work like a basic sat nav, plan a route and it follows you along updating your position every 3 secs. I downloaded Google maps via wap but it doesn't use the GPS part of this phone. Weird as it's a much nicer interface.
Still can't get every divx/xvid avi to work. Some say file not supported. Doesn't support avi files with ac3 5.1 dolby sound format. MP3 stereo only, so converting must be done to watch any "back ups" you may have.
Video camera still is out of sync in 3 out of the 4 resolutions...Anyone know which forum LG developers read? Then i can tell them to hurry up with a firmware update/fix.

Tom, 04 Nov 2008Hi, I have just received my renoir 5 days aga from 3G but t... moreActually u should have known that Renoir is a none OS phone long time ago before getting it. Why u need to buy it and then return it again simply because of your senseless reasonless reason of "none OS phone no future"?
All crappy phone have msn messenger? Are you sure about it? Do you even know any other phone model other than LG Renoir? I doubt your knowledge pal.
Yea a phone is a communication device. When you talking on the phone regardless video call or voice call thats part of communication. Extra features like msn messenger is just a plus. A complimentary features good to have. But not mandatory. If you really need one, go get one java version. Im sure there are a bunch out there.
Again, don't under estimate the ability of java application. Some java application is even more powerful than those made for symbian or window mobile os.
You said, "phone need to be charged everyday even without using it properly"? Of course man, you should use a phone properly. Again, you should have known the battery life before getting it. And btw, there is no wrong to charge a phone everyday. Most of the phone which are same level as Renoir also are like that.
For me, you are the one who making a big thing about your problem with the phone. 18 months? No matter how high end is your phone now, within 6 to 8 months a better and more powerful phone will outpower your phone. This is the trend now. Its not surprise that tomorrow there will be a 12 megapixel phone coming out. What are you going to do about it? Regret with your current "most high end" phone?
I believe other people will make their own research first before getting a phone. At least i won't return a phone after i bought it unless it really give me technical problem.
Sorry if i am overeacted hehe..
Cheers,
Jason

***DO NOT LISTEN TO "Tom"***
He just had a rant as to why you shouldnt get the LG Renoir.
I myself have the Renoir from 3G.
Many idiots on this site cant read manuals and instructions properly, then make false statements.
-It does accept MSN Messenger and ir works
-LG have confirmed they will support this OS with downloads and firmware updates. The first phone to do have support from LG
-LG have said they will include Java and 3rd Party support.
-Some LG Viewty applications work on the Renoir.
-It does save to the memory card AUTOMATICALLY, if you know how to set it. (READ THE MANUAL, ITS EASY)
-Phone is nice size and weight, screen is good size. materials feel exceptional.
-It has a 3.5mm Jack Adapter, so you can whatever headphones you want.
-I have only recorded in the best video resolution, not 120FPS mode or otherwise, and so far no audio/video is out of sync.
-Security is abit lame in this thing though, possibly fixed with a firmware update soon.
-Touch response in text is great, however the qwerty to standard and vice versa response is abit slow. Meaning when you tilt the phone it should go to qwerty keyboard, sometimes this doesnt happen. Maybe i messed about with a setting im not sure. But if sometimes it works and others it dont, then its the software, not the settings.
-I have put on Anacondas 3 and The Cave, after using the conversion tool, which is rather quick might i add, if you have a decent PC. Videos worked fine. No problems.
I still havnt put my sim card in, will do soon. I will then answer about battery life after sim card placement, without the sim the battery has lasted over a day of camera and video usage. I will also mess about with video modes. I will also upload more videos etc.
Ask your questions, and dont believe all the negative BullSh***t you read. This phone deserves more credit its getting, but stupid people who dont have the phone or know how to work it tend to put it down. By the way any jock knows you charge the battery without turning the phone or or put the sim in for atleast 12 hours then use the phone. Any phone. Which im assuming that idiot didnt even do.
Definately a high end competitor in the touchscreen and camera department. Dont underestimate.
Finally, abit of nuse (news)
"First, the i900 Omnia as the greatest mobile phone today because of its optical excellence (same to Renoir) and awesome versatility (8-16 gigabyte storage, Window’s Mobile 6.1 Pro, TouchWiz interface, GPS, auto-rotate accelerometer etc.). Second, the M880 Pixon features: 8 megapixel camera, Advance Shake Reduction (ASR) & Wide Dynamic Range (WDR) technologies, auto-rotate accelerometer and virtual 5.1 channel Surround Sound System (SRS) support. Third, the i8510’s similar optical excellence with Renoir. Fourth, the proposed Samsung SCH-B600. Features: 10 megapixel camera, integrated zoom lens and built-in DBM-satellite TV. Motorola also announced their 5 megapixel Kodak optic ZN5 to challenge Sony Ericsson’s C905."

Anonymous, 04 Nov 20081. there is no OS but LG's propriety OS.
2. gps? look un... moreHi, I have just received my renoir 5 days aga from 3G but today Ive called the and said I want to sen it back.
The reason for this, I believe this phone has no future with its incopatible OS. The phone doesnt even support the msn messenger which even all the crapy phones have at the moment in the market. If a phone cant be used for communication, will that be a phone or a toy? The phone looks nice but thats about it. There is no application what so ever on the net and most likely will not be any in the future. Really, who is going to sit down and make special application for the renoir while the market leader OS's taken already ove (SYMBIAN, WINDOWS OS so on).
The other issue is the battery life, phone needs to be chrged every day even without using it properly.
For me , they making a big thing abaout this phoe but when you consider you will have an 18 month you need to be carefull with choosing this phone. Because in this time there will be many application comming out for smart phones but I dont think noe of these will be for the LP operating system, they will be all compatible with big OS platforms. So if you choose this phone, you have to prepare your self to get stuck with its pre-installed applications enless LG makes a firmware that makes the phone compatible with few applications. But really, when LG has ever done that.
Regards,
Tom.
