DEfine, 02 Jan 2010I am planning to get a LG arena 9unlocked), so all i need t... moreI can guarantee that streaming works for me when I use BOLT browser. Honestly when I bought the Arena, I didn't EXPECT streaming over Wifi to work, because everybody was saying it doesn't work. Streaming didn't really matter to me, but it's cool that it works anyway.
With the default Arena browser, streaming over wifi never works for me. Only with BOLT. And I do not have a data plan or anything like that, it is ridiculously expensive in the Caribbean and not worth it when I have wifi at home and in college. I tested it several times by disconnecting from the wifi and then trying to go online. Internet only worked when I connected the wifi, which shows that only the wifi was being used.
So I honestly think you can trust this phone and buy it. But if you have lots of extra cash and you want to be sure you're getting streaming over wifi, you can buy something else that's more expensive, of course. Also I'm not sure what quality level you'll want when you're streaming. If you want high-quality streaming, it's better to get another phone.
But if you just want watchable videos, the Arena is good enough. It all depends on your priority--if wifi streaming is most important to you, then buy a more expensive phone that supports it by default. Like I said before, wifi streaming was not a priority for me but it does work with the right browser. Hope this helped.

SOme people claimed it works, while some don't.
and also, what's bad with updating the firmware?

Ok the thing I forgot yesterday was about the music player. I know people say you cannot navigate/skip through the tracks when they are playing. That is untrue, I discovered that you CAN navigate through a song. Instead of trying to DRAG through the bar, what you have to do is TAP on it where you want the song to go. Try it, it WORKS!!

My Arena is unlocked, no way am I going to mess around with the software when I don't need to LOL. Also, if you update the firmware, YOUR WARRANTEE WILL BE VOIDED!!

Oh and a couple more things...I keep commenting LOL...
About videos, even if they're in the right format, they will not work if the dimensions are too big. So if you put a high definition 1280x720 Divx file on the phone, it won't work. Make the dimensions maybe 720x480 or smaller. 640x360 is perfect for the HD videos.
ALSO I'm sure those who have it already know that you don't have to make the video widescreen for it to stretch across the screen. When the vid is playing and you tap once to show the icons, there's a plus and minus sign right? The vid will stretch to fit the whole screen when you press the plus sign!
Software updates? I don't think they are necessary, if your phone is crashing/slow it means you're abusing it by running too many processes. And I HEARD that if you have an unlocked phone and you update the firmware, the phone will become locked again. I don't know how true it is but those with unlocked Arenas should bear that in mind!
Wow I'm still going crazy over this phone, it's the best phone that ever happened to me! haha
There was another tip I was supposed to give but I've forgotten when I remember I'll return :)

BIG UPDATE! Ok you CAN stream over wifi with the Arena, I'm not joking!! You just need the right browser! I installed BOLT mobile browser and I can watch Youtube vids when I use it! Use google and you'll find the download site easily.
Remember to fix the streaming settings first though. Go to the main menu under SETTINGS and choose Connectivity. Scroll down to Streaming Settings and open it. Under Internet Profile, change it to Wi-Fi. And if they demand a UDP port number, well I have 6970 ~ 32000.
AND YOUTUBE STREAMING OVER WIFI WORKS! I'm from Trinidad by the way :)

Here's what's really good: you can play any MP4 from youtube on the phone without any converting. But if you wanted to stream vids over wifi, why'd you get this phone? LOL. I don't want that feature, so I don't miss it.

When the screen goes black after couple seconds of not using the phone, how to bring the screen back up? I find the only way is to press the keys on the right upper side of the phone because tapping on the screen will not activate the screen. This is really not convenient. Does anyone knows is there any other way to bring the screen back up?

woody, 30 Dec 2009no, it doesnt play wmv.Download formatfactory, its free and converts any file video, it even has a section for Lg phones also put a high screen resoultion wen converting... Video playback quality is the best i've seen on a portable device including an iPod touch.

It's me again, the one who left a LMGTFY link earlier. So I ignored all the stupid negative comments here about this phone and bought it today. The Arena is PERFECT! And I don't need ANY updates/firmware upgrades!!
This phone is NOT for the computer illiterate and those who are ignorant about multimedia. And if you don't understand anything about computer memory management, you will comment here saying that "it's always crashing" which is ALL YOUR FAULT! Stop running so many processes at the same time, it's a phone not a computer!
To those people who say it doesn't play any videos, are you kidding?? If you know about video codecs, you would already know what format to convert videos to. You also would not even use DivX converter at any time, I'm just being honest. The Arena is mainly an h.263/MP4 phone. It loves the MP4 container. Do not throw AVI videos on it and expect those to work. go buy some $500 smartphone if you want a portable computer.
Internet? The browser displays pages perfectly and even when you've zoomed out, you can read EVERYTHING because the screen on this phone is crystal clear, like HIGH DEFINITION!! The browser is fast and has great options that surprised me. The whole phone is very fast, the graphics are gorgeous, everything is nicely organised.
All in all, this is the best phone I've got yet. And my brother wanted a Sony-Ericsson before but when I got this phone he totally changed his mind! I am 100% satisfied and so happy that I ignored the negative comments about this phone because it is a GREAT, GREAT device, you can do endless stuff with it.
BUT if you don't even know about memory and multimedia formats on your computer, this phone is not for you. Go buy a cheap phone that does nothing except making and receiving calls. If you want a sophisticated phone with plenty of features, you must have knowledge to use it. Otherwise you will always make it crash and then you'll tell people not to buy it, which is stupid.
