I bought this phone in 2013. Unfortunately I sat on it and broke my screen in 2015 so I switched to Samsung but the Nexus still works only the microfone is broken. It was the best smartphone I ever had.

If you are planning on buying this phone, then you should get the battery replaced.

I've had one from March 2014 until December 2018. For 2 years it worked perfectly, except for a broken microphone. In the last 2 years it was getting slower and slower, but still, a very good purchase.

I've used the Nexus 5 from January 2014 till december 2017. The only reason that made me change is that the phone crashed every 2min if i was lucky.
It was not a bootloop problem but yes a motherboard problem that made me change to an Oneplus 5T.
If it wasn't for that issue i would be carrying this phone today. I fell in love with the Nexus 5, got a nice promotion on january and that's when i bought it and it was a beautiful and beasty piece of hardware that i had in my hands.
Simple, elegant, minimal, potent, on screeen navigation buttons, awesome display and bright too. Back in 2014 and 2015 IPS was still the best display around with amoled slightly catching up.
I liked the camera, i still have a few amazing pictures i took with the nexus 5 on my album. For me the most disapointing "feature" was ofc the battery and that the phone got to 70-80 degrees unbearable to the touch if gaming for more than 20min.
What i also didn't like was the speakers, they were too flat and low in volume until i had to root and make them 30% higher in volume and cripsier with an equalizer.

Now i own a oneplus 5T with is far superior but to be expected since it's 4 years newer. But i still miss my Nexus 5 and my experiences i had with it with rootings and basically everything i know, thanks to the awesome Nexus 5.

Anonymous, 02 Nov 2018Yes, no problem...this phone is still futureproofI would agree with you if it had a removable battery. Because changing it is a pain in the butt so it's actually not futureproof at all.

I've been using this phone for over 4 years and 11 months (daily driver). Camera and flash crash from time to time (needs to restart but hey!) If you install some GO apps by google you will do ok. I can get another phone, but i am somehow attached to this old one :D Battery life is not so great, camera can't focus every time and crashes. Screen is great, and touch is responsive!

                        Today , 3 October 2018 , i still use it .
Of course it's not my daily driver , but it is in a very good shape , like new , it run stock marshmallow 6.0.1 , very good screen , touch is very sensitive , beautiful animation , very good camera , very weak battery about 2 and half hours sot . But it still work , i meant to keep this legendary phone in that good shape because it deserves to be like that

Almost 4 years using this device. The performance slow down, very lagging when lot of background data processing. Battery performance become worse, need a replacement. Power button already broken that cause auto shutdown and bootloop, already replace 2 years ago and after few years it sink back, but still can be used. Overall I love this phone for the performance, but nothing last forever. Planning on getting pixel 2/ 2 xl when pixel 3 release, waiting price down.

Sold my Nexus 5 and purchased an used Nexus 6. Needed an upgrade but wanted to stay in Nexus line.
Love the design of both the phones.

Never had a cracked screen. But only dropped a few times on quick reflex foot.
Camera was always shit at night, slow, crashed after a few years, even with updates. Only this week has started to really slow down. Had to restart a few times. Power button broken. Constantly opening up into camera. Case got dirty I had it so long, had to buy new. Also new screen protector.
OS is a little slow these days.

Overall, would literally buy another right now. Does everything phones these days do with 6 yo tech.

Running smooth & Fast with 7.1.2 (Rooted / Custom Rom). Had replaced battery few months back.
Only issue - Rear camera is defective (Shoots blurry image for long distance)

Overall -> Awesome phone with low battery backup

Generally good phone. Battery life destroyed by system and app updates.
Google maps just devours battery and it's slower than it used to be.
Camera is slow and it's easy to take blurry photos. Sometimes camera app crashes so badly, I have to restart phone.
Phone size and screen are great.

I've had this phone from September 2014 and it still works fine apart from some issues I had with the power button which got stuck and kept turning the phone off constantly. Other malfunctions mainly were the camera app and the overheating of the phone during charging. The phone itself has endured quite alot - humidity, dropping, throwing and other wear-and-tear, but it holds strong. The specs were very good at the time of purchase and the camera still does very quality photos quality-wise. This is the longest time I had used a single phone - from 09/2014 - 08/2018 or almost four years.
