I bought one back in December 2016 and in September 2017 while just browsing my email it crashed. Because it was still in warranty I took it to the place I bought it from looking for a fix but they just gave me a brand new one and said it was dead. The second time around I used the new phone from October 2017 till August 2018 and THE SAME THING HAPPENED! IT WILL JUST DIE AT SOME POINT, IN BOTH CASES LESS THAN A YEAR.
while I loved the phone dearly, that's unacceptable and I definitely don't recommend it

I bought a Nexus 5X from a friend new in 2016. It seemed to work fine for 2 years and then suddenly, last week, I rebooted the phone and it has never turned on since then. What a disappointment, just glad I didn't pay a lot for it.

                Very neat phone.
Screen died after dropping it in water so I replaced it myself as it was out of the warranty, works fine and only replacing it this month as the proximity sensor died making calls difficult.

It was the best phone I had ever. Easy to handle.. But after 2 years; it suddenly dead. When I show it in the service center they said many phones have the same issue. We have nothing to do with it. Here I had seen that many people experienced the same issue. very much disappointed..

It's a horrible phone . When I got this phone in November 15 I thought it is wonderful phone but after two and half years my phone become quiet in March 18. I send it to service center Delhi. They changed its mother board of RS 13500 approx. After 2 and half month this phone is not displaying any thing again I sent it again to l. G service centre Delhi. They changed its motherboard and display again in RS 5115.00. So when I bought its cost RS 32800. Now I have spent to repair this phone approx rs 20000 . So don't buy this phone. So I have waisted my 50000 RS for this phone. Because of our Indian man respected sunder pichai I bought this phone. But I m very much in pain after getting this phone.

Vijay, 11 Mar 2018Same issue for me.. perfectly after 2 year motherboard dead... moreSame here bro

Such a shame about this phone. Bought it in July 2016 as the natural successor to the excellent Nexus 5. Used it constantly through to October 2017 when it suddenly started bootlooping, while I was abroad on holiday naturally.

Nothing worked, tried recovery mode/reflashing and replacing the kernel according to a couple of articles on the subject. No joy. I wasn't even completely sure I'd encrypted since the most recent factory reset, so did want to give it away for spares. Ended up smashing it up with a hammer and dumping it.

While I was using it, I really enjoyed it. The screen was better than the Nexus 5 though the battery life still left a bit to be desired. Fingerprint sensor was excellent, just a little hesitant with damp hands. I replaced it with some Huawei junk that I loathe as that was all I could afford at short notice. Wish the Pixel range had followed the cost-effective and high quality Nexus 5 path.

I think the only solution for the overheating and to prevent the bootloop is to mod the phone, no matter how many times you send to fix the board, it will fail because the SoC generate too much heat. You will need: Good quality thermal paste like Artic MX-4 and thin copper plate. There are some tutorials on YT about the modding process on the N5X.

If your N5X got the bootloop, the mod won't do much, i recommend to reflow the board to revive the phone and then apply the mod.

Everyone in the mobile business should know by now that the boot loop issue is a real problem with the Nexus 5X. It's a construction fault. Connecting it with a scratch on the glass is just ridicilous. I certainly hope that most Nexus 5X owners are met more professionally than this!

Olle, 19 May 2018Yes, it is supposed to be one of the easier phones to take ... moreIt's easy to open the device since once you have the plastic back cover off it's all screwed into place. That doesn't mean the boot loop issue is easy to fix though since that is a failure of soldering on the main logic board. You can easily replace that logic board but it will cost you as much (or even more) as a new second hand Nexus 5X phone. Replacing a screen or battery are better examples since these are also easy to reach and replace and are found for cheap online. The screens often come with the complete metal frame already in place making the replacement very easy.
