I've been using this phone for 2 years. For 1.5 months if I play vedios for 1/ more hr then the phone lags. I've tried different players and factory reset. But no improvement. What to do?

Yes, it is the heat that destroys the motherboard which causes the bootloop and makes the phone useless. I managed to get mine repaired without costs after I had been using it for over two years. I really like this phone and want to be able to use it for as long as possible so now I try not to let the phone get too hot. The camera is great, the fingerprint function is good and I appreciate the clean Android and always getting the latest updates (at least so far).

I've had this phone for 3 years, never a problem except once when I cracked the screen (which I got fixed).

phone still going strong. I guess I was one of the lucky ones.

Yes, the processor is fast, but it is also the cause of destroying the phone's motherboard. I have one - and I wished If the comment was there earlier - which could help me not going for it.

Don't go for it if you are into continuous use for about a hours types... this phone's processor will fry it out.

This is a great phone when it is working. The best thing is the camera, great sharpness, very good and natural colours under almost all lighting conditions. Difficult to find a phone with only 12 MP that takes such good pictures. After just over two years I got the booloop problem. After some resistence from the shopkeeper I managed to get it fixed by LG without costs. In Sweden there is a law that makes this possible within 3 years when it is a factory fault. I first contacted Google who tried to help me but it is a very well known hardware problem. The service was very quick when it all got going. It's nice to be able to use it again. What I don't like is that it doesn't have a memory card slot and it should have more than 2 GB ram memory. Apart from the camera I like the clean Android and the clean and simple design. It's a bad thing with this bootloop problem, but I hope to be able to use this phone another couple of years.

Been using for over a year now. Overall good performance. Excellent camera, both front and rear. Macro range for rear camera could have been better. Battery is just terrible. Slight heating issue. Display is ordinary. Fingerprint is still super fast even after a year. If you work by a desk where you can constantly charge the phone, then this isn't a bad option. +1 point for design. When some brand makes a 16gb phone they must add sd card slot!!!

I have my Nexus 5X for about 1.5 years now (since November 2016), with no repairs or anything.
Would I recommend this phone? Not really... the heating is extremely bad in my experience, phone heats up even when I'm just chatting with someone through Facebook Messenger on WiFi... during heavier games the phone is seriously very hot, after a while of playing such games I have to put the phone down because it's uncomfortable to hold it.
Performance in games is not great these days, Android Oreo update decreased my performance a bit too. It can easily do simple tasks of course, Android itself is very smooth but heavier games not so much.
Getting this phone for the newest updates isn't a good idea anymore since it just received its last big update, this phone won't get the Android P.
For this price, you can probably get better phones these days and you won't risk getting bootloops (which I didn't experience but it's still something to consider).
Camera, battery life, display, build quality are all fine, phone gets me through a day pretty easily (though the glass on camera fell off from my phone for some reason, had to glue it back...maybe for the heat?). Speaker isn't great.

Rooting the phone and installing EX Kernel Manager helped me to get more battery life and also made the heating slightly more bearable. Custom ROMs are also good but many died when this phone got the Android 8.1 update (for example my favorite PureNexus, OmniROM, though Omni got a new dev).

After those 1.5 years of using and on the latest Android Oreo update with April security update, my scores in benchmarks are:
                            Antutu:64029
Geekbench: 977 single core, 2528 multi core
(keep in mind that my phone is rooted with EX Kernel)

Every nexus 5x will die in a day... Don't worry about that guys... Mine got repaired by lg.. But he will probably die again after a year...

Mines done that a couple of times. Just leave it on charge for a while, it should boot.

Got this phone on Amazon for £235 unlocked and brand new, and it was the best phone i had used in a long time. Roll on 14 months later, no end of trouble with it and i made the mistake of letting the battery run to zero, and it never turned on again. LG was not interested despite their flagship devices having the bootloop issue, which also included the Nexus 5X.

My nexus 5x got repaired for free... He wasn't under warranty... But in uk lg repaired it for free... But anyway... I will not use it anymore... I will try to sell it... I bought a huawei mate 10 lite... Much better... Specially the 4 gb of ram... Only the camera on my nexus look more natural in low light condition.. And the battery of the nexus 5x is very bad... It last half a day... On mate 10 lite it last 1 day and half with heavy use... It is all my friends... It is the time to look to a new phone... The pixel is very very expensive for me... Go to huawei...

This phone really doesn't deserve to be a part of Google Nexus family. After 6 months I went to LG customer care to replace the Sim trey. The repair executive repaired the sim trey but I don't know while repairing he came to me as showed me that Proximity Sensor is not working and I was asked if I want to get it replace I have to pay around INR 12000. Though my phone is still in warranty. The only reason I have lost the bill. And when I asked to sale it I got an offer from the same executive INR 5200 after Proximity sensor repair. WoW what a deal ....
