hunter, 30 Jan 2013thanx bro for ur time.,but can u tell me is there any app t... moreI would do as pino said. Check out which app is preventing the phone from going into deep sleep and causes too many wakeup calls (eg. Google Maps, some ad supported games) by using something like watchdog. Remove or freeze such apps with system app remover or Titanium backup Pro. If you want to debloat, check out the list of apks which can be safely removed on xda forums.

You are right about that one. The main reason for the battery life I'm getting is because I've heavily debloated the stock rom. I removed almost all LG software (except Quick Memo & LG Tag+) and any others I didn't want. I even removed Google Maps (it's reported to be another battery hog) as I don't use it.

There's a list of apps that can be safely removed at xda and those eager to debloat can check that out. For removing stock apps, you should be rooted and have system app remover installed.

My third LG arrived today after a month of exchanging it because of a camera fault. Each photo I have taken has a pink cast on the central area of a shot. The technician at buy mobile phones said he has tested out the one I received today and said the camera was good. Not so, its faulty like the previous ones. Same problem. The phone itself is good and I was pleased with it. So what do I do now?

but i heard loads of people say thatthey could tweak some in the rom and with some dolby apps to get better sound so this made me think that its the actual players that make a difference.

same might go for video playback.
some apps that are actualy calculating the load might make the battery last way longer as its not loading the 4 cores for 100% like i know they stock app does.

Say... maybe I should try it out using PowerAmp.. The audio on MX player must have sounded different because of different codecs (as far as I know, MX player uses its own codecs- correct me if I'm wrong).
You just gave me an idea. I'll check it out with PowerAmp and will post back with the results. I've got a feeling that the O4X would sound better with PowerAmp than on the stock player.

                            Updates contd..

                            Battery Life:

Efficient standby mode- minimal (if not nil) battery drain. Can easily last 2-2.5 days with light usage and if I don't game. Main battery hogs are gaming, playing hd movies and surfing the web. Typically, it lasts me for the day with some gaming and movie watching mixed with short calls and a couple of hours of internet use. Satisfied for now, but as said before, there is serious potential for improvement with custom roms and kernels.

                            Heating:

The O4X doesn't get warm with regular use like calling or while browsing light websites. It does get warm while gaming, prolonged browsing and playing hd content. It is however, only near the LG logo in the back (underneath it lies the Tegra 3 chipset). Such heating is to be expected- it does have a powerful quad core processor and a 12-core gpu so it's bound to get heat up a little.
But make no mistake, it's not uncomfortably hot nor does it cause thermal shutdowns. It definitely runs cooler than the HTC One X. Personally, I think LG has managed the thermal design pretty well- slowly dissipating the heat around the back and to the frames instead of letting it get hot at a localized area. I can feel it through the silicone case I've put around the phone, but it's not scalding hot. Hope I cleared this up.

i noticed that audio is vastly different in MX player then in default player.
this might be because of the use of different codecs or higher priority decoding or something else were not aware of.

                                Further updates:

                                Audio quality:
I decided to check out this aspect further. Earphones used: Creative EP-630, Panasonic HJE900 and Westone-4. Music was mostly heavy metal and classic rock in lossless 16 bit flac.

General observations- average presentation of details, poor stereo imaging, average presentation of mids and high notes, high volume levels for my ears. However, it's NOT as bad as gsmarena's review paints it out to be.

The O4X sounded best with a low end dynamic iem which is forgiving of the source's flaws like the Creative EP630. It was actually enjoyable to listen from the O4x with these. Bass sections sounded best with these.

With a higher end dynamic like the Panasonic HJE900, the flaws become more apparent. The HJE900 is extremely sensitive and things like background hiss on some tracks and poor stereo imaging becomes are revealed. In 'Caroline' by Status Quo, I noticed that some sounds (high hats/cymbals crashing in this case) were almost entirely absent while playing on the O4X when I distinctly remember hearing the same sounds while playing back the same track on my Clip Zip. I think that the poor stereo crosstalk is the culprit here.

The excellent Westone 4 which has quad balanced armatures presents even the minutest of details in a track as well having an enjoyable sound signature by being not too clinical/neutral. Unfortunately, it is brutal and unforgiving of bad sound quality- both from the source and the recording. It was torture listening from the O4X with these. After half an hour, I was running back to get my Clip Zip. Suffice to say, multi armature iems do not sound too great with the O4X.

I'm speaking out of a semi-audiophile's point of view. The average joe will be perfectly happy with the O4X's sound quality- even more so if he's using some low end dynamic iems or the stock ones. Audio purists should avoid this for pure music listening. IMHO, the closest thing to an audiophile grade android phone would be the SGS and the SGS3.
