Phone has horrible reception. Bought the dual sim phone to use for side business and can't make calls. Had to switch back to $50 Wal-Mart burner to get decent reception on ATT. If you live in a big city and don't travel to rural areas this may be a good phone for you. I can't rely on a phone that won't make calls in rural areas. My cheapo burner keeps me covered.
Sorry to say but they missed the boat on this one.

You may probably also have a unit with tampered/custom ROM. Google Playstore issues are very common with custom ROM's. Return your unit and ask for an international model, H990DS or at least one that is compatible with your country.

Linda, 08 Oct 2020Thank you so much for your reply. The phone was working ... moreI still have 2 units LG V20. One is still on Nougat (never updated by LG even once) and the other on Oreo. Both are still doing well without any problems whatsoever other than having old Android software and very old security patch. No bootloop, no screen or performance issues other than image retention which is fixed by an app. I've already since moved on to 2 other newer phones (one after another) after them (both non-LG) but still, I keep coming back to the V20's to features only they can provide.

They can still outperform my snapdragon 865 smartphone in many ways (features and unique capabilities) - learning remote that makes it possible to control all appliances with IR based remote, bar none (even from unknown/unpopular brands), superb audio quality playback and recording that my newer phones can only approximate but never quite match, wireless screen sharing of offline downloads with DRM encoding, a sharp, lovely 16:9 screen that didn't age/changed very little with time and doesn't give me black bars all around during wireless mirroring not like the newer elongated 19.5:9, 20:9, etc. bezelless phones, a very reliable, fast, fingerprint scanner that's not fussy and inconsistent like optical under display fingerprint scanners, slimport (USB C to HDMI)/video out support, and removable battery (0% to 100% in less than a minute of battery change). Amazing phones. No longer my main driver but still does many things my newest phone can't do.

The phone was working fine with the battery in the previous 42 days. Meanwhile I also have an original new one bought in LG store on 2018.04, and bought a new extended 4100mAh battery online, both failed to break the bootloop.

I only used the original LG AC wall charger, and never used computer USB for charging. I tried power button and volume down button to initiate hard factory reset, but when I clicked yes to clear all my data, it just jumped to bootloop again immediately, and I don't feel like any erasing process was actually taken place. The phone just kept bootlooping when plugged to the charger, without any charging sign.

I bought my phone used without any warranty, and 42 days already way past my return and refund period. I guess LG did do something to avoid bootloop on V20, but it will still happen to a small portion of users, and I am just being unlucky.

The 'original/OEM' LG V20 batteries you see being sold online as brand new nowadays, (4 years after the V20 has been released) are all fake/counterfeit and fake/counterfeit batteries cause bootloops because they can't handle the power load of the boot up sequence and so they shutdown before the boot sequence completes. After shutdown with the load lightened, it automatically boots up again, only to repeat the cycle - hence, the infamous bootloop.

What you do is to use the third party extended battery (assuming it has battery power left) while permanently attached to an AC fast charger (Quick charge 3.0 compatible charger). Don't use slow computer USB charging.
While the phone is charging on AC (QC3.0), press power button and volume button to initiate hard factory reset. Through the entire process, do not remove the phone from the QC3.0 wall charger. If this doesn't solve your problem, (the phone doesn't indicate charging icon using 3rd party extended battery that is tested to be fully OK and functional), then your unit was fried beyond repair. Only a trip to an LG service center will do.

If this were a problem before shipping, it took 42 days to come out? I did my research and found the exact same symptoms with the OP of this post "Boot-loop. When you see the headphone jack logo when there's none attached, it should alert you to a short in the circuitry of the unit which is usually due to moisture. You should have removed the battery and allow it to dry. Water damage is irreversible. Once you continue using a phone with one, it will heat up as you noticed, and fry the circuit, causing hardware and correspondingly bootloop. Return the unit if it was never near water or didn't have condensation. It probably already has it even before shipment or during shipment (improper storage/packing).
With water damage, circuits can fry and cause bootloop.

LG V20 BOOTLOOP is a REAL THING!!

I bought a "claimed barely used, looks nearly new" used V20, it was working fine although I did notice the cpu temperature is a bit higher (no games, just browsing would reach 68 degree celsius sometimes).

On the 42nd day of usage, I found out that it got struck in headphone mode with no headphone inserted at all, and no matter what I did, it won't go away, I decided to restart the phone in order to get rid of it. It then entered the vicious cycle of bootloop.

It kept rebooting on the logo screen, even after swapped with several batteries (including new one and LG original one), on charge, plugged to computer. It now won't charge, the computer won't recognise it, hard reset (factory data reset) won't work, all methods are in vain.

I believed in everyone saying "no more bootloop in V20", and this is how I ended up. I am desperate. V20 may probably has a lesser chance of bootloop, but I am a real victim of it.

Amazing phone that really stood the test of time. It's 4 years old this month (released in October 2016) and it's still alive and kicking ass, and still a lot more versatile and useful for a wide variety of things and for longer than even the newer flagship phones of 2020.

The advantage of the removable battery !

I had to agree with the several comments below that this is one hell of a great phone.
I had 2 - both using Perfine battery 4100 mah bought from AliExpress, enough juice to last more than 1 day. That removeable battery feature is a gem. I take it anytime over the nice glass looking modern phones released these days.
Recently, I had to changed the speaker in one of my LG V20 - I dropped it and sound became soft on and off. Again ordered the parts from AliExpress - followed instruction from Fixit (you can google it), and voila - like new again.
Overall, an amazing phone that I can foresee using till they really died on me.
