Anonymous, 24 Jan 2023I've had it the problem though is reception and batter... moreNot sure where You are but Yes as 3G comes to an end only a couple different variants will work eventually. The H918 is definitely one of them which is the one I still use on T-Mobile's Network without issue because it has the required VoLTE "Call over Data connection". The VS995 may also work on Verizon but I'm not sure for how long. As for the battery, being that is removable can be changed. If You like the slim factory style, Shenmz makes a good one (4380 mAh) that I've been using for over a year. Gets Me a full day use. It's on the Bay for under $20 USD. I have extended batteries for long hauls. Those are also reasonably priced. Out of those I prefer the Taeozi 10800 mAh. That one goes 3 days easy! Wishing You luck!

I've owned two of these phones and have
to admit it's full blown with power features
      any gamer and multimedia enthusiastic
would want but fails on reception quality
and battery life... you might be able to get
away by upgrading to a bigger aftermarket
battery but in my experiece the phone gets
hot... as for reception you might need to go
outside to get some better reception..

Toert, 12 Nov 2022Well. My fully stock V20 with fully original battery, etc, ... moreI remember hearing/reading about this. Have You tried messing with the USB connection? Plug the charging cable in one way, if that doesn't work then flip it the other way. You could also clean the port or have it cleaned. Just something to try. Which Variant do You have?

Toert, 12 Nov 2022Well. My fully stock V20 with fully original battery, etc, ... moreI'm shocked with your troubles on the V20.
I've a pair bought in May, 2017 and August of the same year. Working both of them at present without problems.
I think that sometimes any unit could came with defects.

Well. My fully stock V20 with fully original battery, etc, lies right beside me and has boot looped for 30 minutes. Trying to heat it up with fast charging as much as possible to get the data before trashing it. First time it bootlooped, it managed to fully start up after 15 minutes, but now it won't get any further.

Afaik RAM was soldered atop the CPU, and these phones gets _hot_. The solderings will melt together and prevent the phone from booting.

LG should have learned from mistakes but didn't. No wonder they're out of business. Too bad on a good, albeit fantastically slow, phone.

sola, 22 Oct 2022what about the battery of this v20The battery is removable, thus replaceable. They make thin batteries with a little more juice than stock but still fit the stock backing, which is what I am using now. They also make thick batteries that require the use of a larger backing (usually supplied with the battery). You can get upwards of four days on that one depending on how the device is used. I also have a couple of those. Very handy for long video shoots.

I think that a V20 revival, introducing simply only a more updated chipset and increasing the RAM memory alongside with the ROM, could be a true success.

I still use it as My daily driver while I tweak on this V60. No lag Here. Nice DAC, it's not the V20 DAC though. Check it out, You can still get them and they are up to date on updates if You're into that. That surprises Me being that they are out of the market. On schedule to receive A13 when it arrives as well.

I keep deep diving into the current phone market as I grow frustrated with this phone, it's always felt laggy and unresponsive to me and has only gotten worse over the years, even with the big beefy battery I added later, but it's just a rude awakening to how every wonderful feature I take for granted has completely vanished or become a niche rarity. You'd think it would be so simple to just shop for an upgrade to an equivalent product with current technical specs and network support, but nooooo they declare every aspect and design choice here "outdated" just because Apple and Samsung have declared curved edges and corners and hole punches and notches are in style despite no one ever asking for them.

Another note to people installing custom ROMs: you might get a "static white noise" screen when booting. Don't worry, just let it boot into the OS and turn the screen off. Then turn on the screen while covering the sensors near the camera for about 20 seconds. It should go away.

Warning to anyone who is gonna buy this phone for custom ROM flashing: it's actually very hard to unlock the bootloader.

Since LG has shut off the official unlocking method, the only way to unlock the bootloader is through the "Dirtysanta" exploit, and this process is both very tedious and very easy to get errors like I did. If it doesn't work for you either, I recommend avoiding the main XDA guide and watch the youtube tutorial from "Browningate" instead. I followed his instructions and used his files and it worked like a charm.

NeonHD, 02 Jul 2022P.S. Aliexpress sells a beefy 10500mAh battery case for the... moreThat battery and the Taeozi 10800 mAh are the way to go especially when shooting a concert video or any type of extended footage. I used them for years. The Taeozi is 2 years old always charged to 100% and still shows 95% health on the accubattery app. I purchased a Shenmz 4380 to return to the slim side for a minute. Also a great battery. I Forgot how thin this phone is. Lol

P.S. Aliexpress sells a beefy 10500mAh battery case for the V20.

                                https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32841200466.html

Once you have that, your V20 will last for days without charge.

Just bought myself a refurbished V20 for $65 to use as a IP security cam. It's going to replace my LG G4 which is what I currently use as a security cam.

It's the highest spec'd phone I could find with a removable battery, perfect for my use-case.

As long as they (the Chinese aftermarket) keep making batteries for the V20, this is gonna serve as my IP cam for years, even decades maybe.

Remember to use the 80/20 rule to maximize each battery's longevity (charge below 20%, unplug above 80%). There's an app that does this for you (needs root).

Anonymous, 26 Jun 2022Replace the battery, maybe it was because the battery too oldMostly I use, among a wide array of batteries, the 6.400 mAh PERFINE and since long time ago was fitting my main unit, without troubles.
After the strange and uncommon surprise, the unit goes with the same battery, without problems.
