Anonymous, 20 May 2019I wonder if Lg will update the v20 to android Pie? I don't think there will be a Pie. Maybe for Korea models only, but elsewhere, nope, never. LG has broken its software update promises a million times already. One of my V20's is still on Nougat, the software it was released with almost 3 years ago while my other V20 got a VERY LATE update to Oreo December 2018 last year. Kind of sucks because Google's GCam with night sight makes the V20 a camera powerhouse but only works with Oreo software.

While the V20's main camera and its built in camera app is already excellent having manual camera controls, a fast f/1.8 aperture and excellent detail retention, it doesn't have the newer 'software magic' the recent 2019 flagship phones have: auto fake blur/fake bokeh, night modes, photosphere and improved panorama and HDR performance. (The V20's default camera app isn't very good in HDR scenes; it still clips whites and crushes shadows and it doesn't have a night mode.) The GCam with night sight app (version 6.1)
changes all that. With the GCam port for the V20 with Oreo, you can now enjoy fake blur using the GCam's portrait mode, and you can even adjust the blur level after taking the photo with Google photos. With the GCam, you can get vastly better low light shots with night sight, better HDR photos and better panoramic stitching. Add to that the Open camera app (compatible with older android versions) and the V20 becomes a photographic powerhouse. Again, it sucks because GCam with night sight only works on Oreo. I guess the only thing lacking is a real optical zoom as the V20 has got only 2 rear cameras, but really, telephoto is rarely used by phone users so it's likely you won't miss it at all, or miss it as much as ultrawideangle and regular wideangle cameras in phones. Add to that the V20's extensive feature set (dual sim + dedicated micro sd slot for 1TB storage expansion), learning remote (IR blaster), drop resistance, removable battery, FM radio, headphone jack, second screen, etc. and you'll have a phone that will last you another 3 years.

I actually very much appreciate the removable battery. I was not expecting that on a phone this new and expensive!

Their strongest point is the audio followed by the image at short distance. Gaming has a decent rol here but isn't the most suitable phone for this purpose.

              Ok then.

In the meantime, i'm confused about choosing between LG G6 and V20. I want to buy it to be my main phone. And use it for gaming and other hardworking task. And photography of course.

              Please tell me which best!
I don't care for the phone design, cause i just want the best experience when use it.

I however, has one V20 that has strong screen retention that was solved with Blue Light filter app. My other V20 doesn't have any.

Is screen retention a commun issue?Yes, it's a good phone with some units having screen retention issue that can be solved by using blue light filter app from playstore. Search here using search box above for 'blue light filter' app settings.

Would suggest the 'NoHex' Gcam port with night sight for V20's with Oreo (NoHex_MGC_6.1.021_MI8_V2a.apk). It has no major issues and supports both portrait mode and night sight for the ultrawideangle and regular wide angle cams of the V20. The other Gcam ports with night sight that I've tried had serious issues. In particular, one port (MGC_6.1.021_MI8_V1d_fu24-01f.apk) caused other running apps to close and caused the settings app to repeatedly crash (force close). Had to reboot to uninstall it (before the settings app starts crashing). There are other ports I haven't tried but the "NoHex" one is already very good that I don't feel the need to explore the other ports for now.

Rimac , 12 May 2019Your experience with the Google camera (night sight) on Ore... moreYes, it's well known to photo enthusiasts. 'Night sight' is really excellent for V20 users who like to capture very low light photos without thinking about what manual settings to use (the app is full auto). The low light photos captured using Night sight on the V20 is short of outstanding. From my comparisons with Huawei P30 Pro, it really beats the P30 pro in terms of detail retention. However, as earlier stated, some ports of the app can cause settings to repeatedly close and other apps to force close. Others may experience less problems or worse depending on the phone and the exact Google camera with night sight ported app being used.

Some of these ported Google camera apps with 'night sight' can cause settings amd other running apps to stop. ('settings keeps on stopping'). In this case, just uninstall the app and try another Google camera app port for the V20 or use Open camera app.

Good news to those on Oreo. I've tried the Google camera port (with Night Sight) for the V20 and it works pretty much like the one on Pixel phones. Unfortunately, the port doesn't work on V20 phones still on Nougat (for Oreo only). I still prefer Open camera app used with manual settings (under HDR mode) for low light though as its faster, more customizable and compatible with Nougat up to the latest Android version. Those who don't like to use manual settings may prefer Google camera with Night Sight though. Here's the Google Camera with Night Sight apk link for the V20: https://www.google.com.ph/amp/s/amp.reddit.com/r/lgv20/comments/a66trj/google_camera_with_night_sight_ported_to_the_lg/

The thicker battery will come with a back cover of its own which you'll use with the V20.

ZeroLemon 10,000 mAh battery works really well with the LG V20.
I get between 24-36 hours of runtime on a single charge. It does gradually decline in capacity after 9-12 months but even when 1.5 years old it has greater runtime than the OEM tiny battery which is almost worthless IMO and should be kept for an emergency.

The other benefit of the ZL 10K mAh battery is that it makes the phone ticker and thus much easier to hold.
