After LG removed all of the unique features of the V20 to be more Samsung like, I decided to cut out the middle man and purchased a Samsung Galaxy Note 9 for half off. My V20 and Note 9 swap out daily driver duties, as my LG still runs nice and strong.

The bad image retention (if I don't use Blue light filter app) on my B&O V20 and the complete absence of Oreo software update in that unit while my other V20 has updated to Oreo, only points to LG's lack of quality consistency, inadequate customer focus and concern. My LG washing machine is the only other LG appliance/electronics in the house. Will most likely opt for a big screen Sharp, Panasonic, Samsung, or Sony TV instead.

Headline: LG G5 and LG V20 no longer listed on LG’s security update page
Content: It appears LG is ditching the LG V20 and LG G5... This means the devices will no longer receive updates, security patches or otherwise. Both devices will not be updated past Android Oreo... However, LG did promise 2 years of updates, which means at least the V20 should technically have gotten Android Pie...

Asif_Shahzad, 05 Jan 2019Keeping in view of LG V20 likes by all around the globe, I ... moreIt's nice to dream but it's wishful thinking. The LG V20 was a 'mistake' by LG. LG released a phone with too many desirable features that many V20 owners never felt the urge to upgrade to the newer LG phone models.

Worse, LG removed many of those unique features in its newer phones [IR blaster, dedicated micro SD card slot (it's now hybrid slot), removable batteries, slimport support, etc.] that the V20 owners who valued them didn't consider the newer flagship LG phones a 'REAL' upgrade or a 'TRUE' successor of the V20. At most, the newer models were half-baked compromises.

LG's mobile division has been downhill since then. LG and Sony mobile phones were pulled out December last year in my region. It's not a good sign. I don't think LG will still be relevant a few years from now with the horrible software update support and sloppy quality control as its track record - the V20 being the most glaring example. Being pulled out of distribution last year in my region together with Sony mobile phones (which have less than 1% worldwide market share) is telling. The future for LG mobile phones is bleak. Expect even worse software updates for all LG mobile phones this year - even for flagship phones. Better yet, avoid any LG phone in 2019 if you are at all concerned with software updates. It will save you a lot of disappointment.

Anonymous, 05 Jan 2019Careful a post like this is going to awaken the V20 fanboys... moreScreen ghosting is NOT a feature. It's a horrible testament to LG's sloppy quality control. I have two H990 DS V20's. The B&O version (-ESA-xx region) has screen ghosting and still does not have Oreo and I doubt if it will ever have Oreo after MORE THAN 2 YEARS on its original Nougat 7.0 android software. My other V20, the non-B&O version (-AME-xx region) never had screen ghosting: perfect in every way and it has been updated to Oreo but will likely never have PIE.

Despite the bad experience from my B&O V20, I'm keeping it because the Blue Light filter app rectifies the screen ghosting problem for long as it is installed and running. As for the Oreo update, I believe it's a hopeless case for the -ESA-xx variant (and possibly other less widely distributed variants). PIE update? forget it. You buy this phone for its features and longevity - not for the fast software updates for which LG is VERY POOR.

Just because owners of V20 here like their V20's despite their V20's faults doesn't mean they're FANBOYS. FANBOYS don't acknowledge defects or make defects 'features', get it? V20 owners are NOT blind to the V20's defects (ghosting, no updates, etc.). V20 owners would rather dwell on positives and look for workaround for the few problems the V20 has (like Blue Light filter app for the ghosting, custom ROM for software updates), extended batteries or new OEM batteries for poor battery life (expected now as the V20 is more than 2 years old and so is the original battery that came with it.)

V20 owners give credit where credit is due and while LG is the MOST HORRIBLE smartphone company in terms of SOFTWARE UPDATES and QUALITY CONSISTENCY, its unique features and capabilities make it still relevant EVEN in 2019. V20 owners have more than enough reason to stick with the V20 and not upgrade at all after more than 2 year!

The anti-obsolescence features (removable batteries, dual SIM + dedicated micro sd card slot, long life QHD IPS display in 16:9 aspect ratio, IR blaster, FM Radio, headphone jack, slimport support, etc.) are actually part of the many reasons why more than 2 years later, the V20 is still very much ALIVE and is much more discussed in its forum here than the more recent models from other brands (or even from the same brand itself) in their respective forums.

Make no mistake about it. The LG V20 is loaded with anti-obsolescence features that is bound to make it last for even more years to come and yes, quite possibly last longer than even the upcoming disposable 2019 flagship phones with small sealed batteries and no external storage options.

Keeping in view of LG V20 likes by all around the globe, I think LG should launch V20 (Pro) or V20+ version, with extended front camera, battery and Android Pie from the box (or at-least Oreo 8.1). This will attract more customers for V20 rather than old or new models of LG devices.
