Oreo was planned end of this month for the V20. I have reason to believe that it won't happen this month as even the newer V30 hasn't gotten an Oreo update yet. People are complaining over there at the V30 forum.

AnonD-732843, 26 May 2018I just got an update to my V20 H990DS. Size of it was 643mb... moreYes, I agree. LG's update frequency and timeliness of updates is just plain horrible.

I disagree with the statement the HTC U Ultra is better than the V20 in low light. Here's Gsmarena's photo compare tool comparing the HTC U ultra with the V20 in low light. Check details on the dollar bill and Sponge Bob:
        https://www.gsmarena.com/piccmp.php3?idType=5&idPhone1=8519&idPhone2=8238
The V20 is clearly superior here.
Also, while the HTC U Ultra is a good old flagship phone with the same snapdragon 821 processor as the V20, the similarity ends there. Other than the Oreo update, the HTC U Ultra is inferior (not to mention overpriced) compared to the V20 in every way - smaller sealed 3000mAh battery, no dedicated sd card slot, no headphone jack, no FM radio, no IR blaster, worse implementation of second screen compared to the V20. So no, the HTC U Ultra is a poor substitute for the V20.

I just got an update to my V20 H990DS. Size of it was 643mb and only the security patch changed to 1 January 2018 and it seemed like forever to be on the September one..

I now see how lame LG & their software update strategies are. Like some people mentioned earlier, they're worse than Samsung and that is 100% true.

As much as I love my V20 since I came from a lovely Note4, I don't think I'll buy another LG again as the chance of OREO on this device is 0%.

I'd like to add that every time you install or reinstall an app on your V20, make sure you check the 'draw over other apps' and 'ignore optimization' settings again. Always disable 'draw over other apps' and enable 'ignore optimization' for installed apps. Lagginess creeps in the more apps you install if you don't change the default settings. It's actually not unique to the V20. It's the same issue with Samsung flagships.

Unsolved Mistry, 24 May 2018As a regular developer on xda I can tell you I "understand"... moreIt's unfortunate you have lag/fluidity problems with your V20. I've got two and none of them ever lagged. For the lags, can you do me a favor by trying out all these simple solutions and feedback me if they helped at all? These setting tweaks work wonders in making the user interface as fluid as iphones even in my snapdragon 435 and 625 Xiaomi phones. I've rewritten it for the V20:
1: Go to settings -> general -> apps -> configure apps (three dots at the upper right) -> special access.
              Choose:
Ignore optimizations - turn ON for All apps (default is off)
From the same 'special access' menu,
              Choose next:
Draw over other apps - turn OFF for ALL apps. (except messaging)
              2. Enable developer options if not enabled already.
First, turn ON 'force gpu rendering'
Then set window animation scale, transition animation scale and animator duration scale to 0.5 for all three.
              Then restart phone.

              3. Download Nova Launcher
Go to nova settings -> look and feel
Set both 'scroll speed' and 'animation speed' to 'fast'.
              4. If internal storage is 2/3 to near full, transfer media files to sd card.
Check sd card is not defective. That's it. Let me know how all these adjustments go on your V20 if they don't help at all, try hard reset after installing the latest OTA update and redo all of the above. If still not fluid, then your V20 is likely defective, better have it replaced.

Worst part of v20 owner ship is lack of updates to oreo, especially painful for those who purchased this phone at a high price / launch! I'm considering the htc u12+, note 8/9, mix 2s, vivo nex and whatever else that has no notch and piques my interest.

I am not a developer nor heavy gamer but, trust me I am a heavy user. I owned G2 and its display burned (permanent yellow spots). Replaced display in waranty and phone still works, even today without issues. Then I had G4. Not a single performance problem until, after 16 months it bootlooped. Motherboard replaced, works like charm. V20 is absolutely brilliant piece of technology (so far - 9 months). LG has quality issues with phones (good engineering but not so good manufacturing), but when they work, they are excellent.

Out of all of the phones I have owned, frequent wipes, re-installs etc this phone is the worst for fluidity, it should not be a prerequisite for android users to constantly wipe their devices, the time for this phone to slow and bog down between fresh installs and clean wipes is poor. Simply put it is buggy and LGs rom is not the best, Sony phones however are great and I have fond memories of my faultless Z2.

It could be that my device is faulty however every LG device I have owned except the nexus 5 has been poor and has issues. I feel as a long term owner I have great insight into this so dismissing my opinion is not the cleverest thing to do. I'm putting this and the previous comment to help inform buyers who see the v20s low price tag and are considering purchasing it. Because from where I am standing this phone is not worth it. I would recommend the HTC U ultra, it has android oreo and a SD821, the camera is way better in low light however no 3.5mm and dac. However what I have noticed is usb C audio output is way louder than ordinary 3.5mm jacks.

None of these are throught. After 9 months, with tone of installed apps, the phone is still sharp fast, doesn't bug at all and has never shown any screen retention.

Keeps on raising battery issues but ignores the fact that with the V20's removable battery, you can have an equivalent of 10, 000mah capacity battery by bringing 3 original OEM spare V20 batteries or using a third party extended battery. No sealed battery phone can ever beat that. A single OEM V20 battery should give you around 6hrs on screen time which is not excellent but good enough for regular users. If it doesn't last that long even on a new, genuine /OEM V20 battery, then you are a very heavy user and not even a 4000mAh battery will serve your needs. It's that or you just lack basic knowledge of Android's power handling (no basic knowledge to investigate which apps are draining the battery).

You need to learn more about the Android operating system or buy an iphone if you don't even bother to investigate what is wrong with the way you set up and use the phone. It's ironic people complain of the same things - screen retention, laggy operation etc. in Samsung and other flagships as more apps get installed and uninstalled. It's utter lack of basic knowledge of the Android operating system as even entry level phones with midrange processors can run smoothly with a knowledgeable user while under an ignorant user, even the most powerful flagship phones from Samsung and Google can be laggy.

A... moreYes, what I like about the V20 as a flagship android phone is that it doesn't pretend to be an iPhone like the Pixel phones, Samsung flagships and Huawei flagships both in pricing and in promotions. The V20 is the epitome of what an ideal flagship android phone should be: a true smartphone with extensive features set and designed for maximum versatility and longevity without spending wastefully on celebrity endorsements making the phone a reasonably priced no nonsense product of the best smartphone technology can offer.

Many buy them even to the extent of sacrificing their basic necessities for them simply because of the prestige of owning one. To them, owning an expensive phone (iPhone) promoted and owned by many Hollywood and music icons makes them feel just like them - privileged and affluent even though it costs 3 times their monthly income and never mind if they don't even have a decent house or a car or can't always pay for their rent on time. To them, owning an iphone is a must, because it is a sort of compensation mechanism for their actual social status - just average or just barely above middle income range. They don't want others to look at them as belonging to the masses or the under privileged, which can only afford mostly very cheap or midrange android phones. Somehow, Google's Pixel phones, Samsung's flagship phones and Huawei's flagship phones are copying from Apple's book/marketing strategy of promoting prestige and brand image first. However, in the end, Apple will still have the edge because it has an exclusive mobile operating system (ios) and app ecosystem (Apple appstore, iTunes) not shared by dirt cheap phones. Google's Pixel phones, Samsung and Huawei's flagship phones all use Android operating system which is the same operating system used by the cheapest smartphones in the world. Using android doesn't give a convincing impression of true exclusivity, true prestige and luxury and true premium experience if the same operating system is being used and ALSO experienced by owners of dirt cheap phones. No amount of Pixel phone Hollywood or artist promotions, Huawei's extensive EMUI skinning or Samsung's Touchwiz skinning can escape the fact that they still are 100% android underneath which is the same operating system used by dirt cheap, low quality android phones. That's not exactly good for brand prestige and luxury image and so Pixel phones, Samsung flagships and Huawei flagships are perceived by others as simply trying hard iphone imitations/copycats even if all the three smartphone flagshio brands are truly superior to the iphone from a specs, features, experience, and external looks standpoint.
