Bigger battery capacities means phones used heavily by heavy users don't get to deep discharge levels/low battery levels at the end of the day before one recharges the phone (

There is very little chance for a phone to get water damage. On the other hand, all batteries degrade over time. So let's assume you have 0.1% chance of water damage, 10% chance of screen damage from drops, but you have 100% chance that your battery will fail, deteriorate, won't hold a charge anymore sometime in the near future (in other words it's guaranteed to happen).
So that's why the removable battery is the most important feature in a phone. Especially since 2016, Snapdragon 820, f1.8 camera aperture and Android 7, flagship smartphones are enough fast and have enough good camera, so they're futureproof and don't need to replace them for many years. (Except if your phone has non-removable battery which will force you to buy a new phone.) Phone manufacturers know this. Not surprised that this is the era since when no phone manufacturers make phones with removable battery anymore. What a "coincidence"...
The useless design changes like curved edge screen, 18:9 screen, notch, ... are all created just to manipulate people to think/feel their current phone is obsoleted so they will buy new phones. Because manufacturers can't offer enough big technical improvements from year to year. And even if they could, people wouldn't feel the difference (most people are light users, but even a heavy gamer can tell that a Snapdragon 820 phone can run demanding games perfectly.)

Anonymous, 25 Mar 2018Remember your "drop resistance" may prove no better than th... moreThat's what I like about the V20 never mind if the bezels are 'old fashioned'. It helps with drop resistance. Now if a phone survives a drop without screen damage, chances are, its water resistant seals and battery may suffer damage (battery leaks or becomes swollen). I'm glad the V20 has removable battery option. If battery gets damaged from a drop, I'll just replace it with any of my spare batteries. They only cost $10-$15 anyway.

Your phone may take a relatively small fall and just because of the dynamics of how it hit the ground still brake or end up with a cracked screen.
Most phones can take a fall, anyways. It's not like manufactures don't drop test their own phones in the development phase. It's the screens that are most likely to crack, and the v20s screen is protected by the huge bezels more than anything.

It's a reminder to folks with ip68 phones not to test the waterproof 'feature' of their phones by internationally taking a shower with it or go swimming with it. I'm not saying waterproofing as a feature is useless. It's nice to have but it is highly overrated. Between a waterproof phone with sealed battery and wireless charging and a non waterproof one with removable battery and drop resistance, I'll choose the removable battery phone with drop resistance anytime. More phones die from drops and dead batteries than from water damage.

While you provide an instance of a Sony phone still suffering from water damage, chances are If the OP's phone was waterproof it'd still be working but this is the tradeoff of having a phone with a removable back cover.

It's not exclusive to the V20 mind you. Even a friend's supposedly waterproof Sony Xperia XZ premium got damaged from water droplets condensing in the phone screen when he used his phone while in the shower.

As I said before my last two phones had a removable battery and guess what I never had to remove them or replace them for the 18 to 24 months i used each one. They also both had ir blasters, again, didnt ever really use it other than to show some friends. I only listen to the radio while Im driving so I don't need fm radio on my phone. I care about screen quality, camera, and battery life off one charge.

I just had my LG V20 accidentally dropped from a pail of water. After taking precautions to dry it e.g. putting it in dry rice and using blower it still had a lot of issues .Now its screen is pixelated with green line appearing at the middle. It lags a lot. Screen is unresponsive from time to time. I have other smartphone before that survive accidental water splashes (e.g. lenovo) just by using blower and storing it in uncooked rice overnight. This phone is a total waste of money. Considering i just bought it about two months ago because of good reviews.

You obviously like disposable phones. Well, I don't. A phone should be no different from a desktop PC in life cycle (5-6 years) and it should not cost more than a good desktop because it clearly is not jewelry.

Just kidding, LG phones are among the best phones I ever used (iPhone, Samsung, Sony, Xiaoumi, HTC).
Some people have the "habit of generalisation"; having one problem with a certain smartphone from a brand, (even if his local dealer was not caring or if the repair shop in his town failed him), then, he will come to this forum to bash every single phone of this brand and say for example >>> "LG?? Noway!!!! the worse phone ever....bla...bla...bla..">>> despite he did not and will not buy this phone.

Anti Samsung trolls raise Note 7 exploding battery issues in EVERY Samsung phone forum OVER AND OVER again despite it being isolated to the Note 7 only and being old news. It's the same with anti Apple trolls. They keep on raising bend gate issues in EVERY iphone forum OVER AND OVER again despite it being corrected in newer iphone 6 batches and no longer the case with all newer iphone releases. Trolling is so common to popular brands like Samsung and Apple. For the LG V20 to get trolled more than the newer V30 despite being an older flagship phone only means one thing: it still is a very capable competitor even when compared to the newest 2018 flagship phones. It is still a good choice, and still a reasonable and competitive phone to buy in 2018. Otherwise it would already have been forgotten with trolls moving on to newer models or other brands and not waste time with the oold, forgotten V20.

People still bring up Apple's iPhone6 "bend gate" and Samsung's battery fiasco with the Note 7. The only difference is while those problems only applied to one particular device (iPhone6 and Note 7), where as LG has gone above and beyond with bootloop affecting several of their devices (G4, G5, V10). It's only fair and smart that people in the market for a V20 or a G6 ask this question (since their predecessors had this problem) even if it's been asked a million times already like every other question on the internet.
