I use IR on my G3 for a multitude of devices both at home and in office like TVs aircons etc. It just very convenient. IR and FM radio were among the reasons I always chose LG over Samsung. Apple somehow convince the world that we dont need a lot of practical features that enhances our user experience examples removable battery despite the many many many advantages over nonremovable, headphone jacks, sd cards, FM Radio, IR among others. Then Samsung copies a lot of what Apple does, then everybody copies Samsung. The V30 is truly a great product and still have many differences from Samsung and other brands but the key features that made it stand out are now all gone. And please dont say infrared and FM radio is dead. A great many of us - if I am not mistaken thr vast majority -
still own products (tvs, aircons, dvd players) that use infrared. IR provides an interface between old and new technology. And yes many people dont know of and dont use the feature but many do. And even then how much can it possibly cost the company to include this feature. I can stomach the non removable battery and FM but IR I will truly miss. I was waiting like forever for a worthy upgrade to the G3 and may still buy the V30 for the camera, sound, build quality and design but while its prettier than its predecessors (v10, v20) it certainly will leave u yearning for these forgotton features.

Great stuff.
1. Going with an 18:9 aspect ration compared to Samsungs 18.5:9 gives it just a bit more width which to me looks better an less top heavy.
2. Not going with a curved over the edge display, More protection, less reflection, more practical.
3. Dual camera that is simple to understand. One for normal, one for wide angle, simple, practical, useful.
4. Great audio.
Looks like the best top end phone of the year so far,
Well done LG.

LG obviously has brilliant engineers but it is hard to understand their marketing strategy. G5 was a wonderful example - interesting and totally unusable concept. With V30 they decided to give up all those wonderful features that made V series outstanding and to make just another shiny Samsung. To begin with replaceable battery. No matter how good and long lasting the sealed battery may be there comes the moment when it is dead. And then you do not have another one in your pocket to replace it in few seconds, but instead you connect a power pack which makes you and your phone looking funny or try to find a wired/wireless spot to recharge it in half an hour minimum.
FM Radio might be obsolete when there is a broadcast of radio programme over the Net, but still I find it very handy to listen to the old fashioned radio when waiting in some queue or when jogging in the morning. Especially if you are roaming and don't want to spend money just to listen the morning news!
When I watch TV in the evening, my phone is with me almost always which is not the case with all kinds of remotes (TV, set-top, air-conditioner). And who needs them if I can use the phone with IR blaster as an ultra universal remote? (I don't see IR in V30 specs).
Shall I mention the second screen?
Instead we got the possibility to make a professional movies (really?) which might be interesting for a very small group of users who for some reason don't want to purchase a real cam-coder.
I wish LG a lot of success, the V30 is a beautiful phone but there are many others like it. In the mean time, long live V20!

LG is copying Samsung. No more IR blaster, no more FM radio, no more second screen and no more removable battery in its flagship phone. It has also copied Samsung's stupid 18.5:9/2:1 NarrowView display and added waterproofing. All I can say is good luck LG. The V30 is going to have miserable sales volume compared to the V20 because it has lost many of its unique selling features over Samsung. The only thing left is the free cheap B&O earbuds and the claim to fame audiophile grade sound that frankly sounds mediocre if you don't install an equalizer app from Google Playstore. It's the same DAC found in the V20 so I know what to expect.

I can't believe it doesn't have FM radio. I can accept the lack of IR blaster but this is strange. Every phone has FM transmitter and the earphones with 3.5 jack can be used as antenna. I still use this feature because it is more battery efficient and I don't have a lot of internet for streaming on my plan. Also I have favorite radio that I am listing every morning in the public transport. Also I like the LG radio app.
