LG Velvet 5G

Jeeez, I don't get why this phone is getting all the hate. It's a pretty great phone and brings both IP68 water resistance and MIL-spec from LG's V lineup (perhaps that's where its name "velvet" came from).
And finally, it ACTUALLY looks decent! I wouldn't say original, but it's such a sight for sore eyes when compared to all the other bland uninspired phone designs of today. MUCH better than the banal looking V60.
Imaging eating the same thing over and over again, that's what it feels like every time I look at the V60.

The pricing is too much. With that kind of specs and the design is nothing special. To make it worse they will just ended up with more loss in this product. I have LG G7 and the only thing I complain is the camera.

Bart, 14 May 2020Sir, You are right and wrong in many ways
Right, they don'... moreWell Bart, LG surely did more market research for their Velvet than we can ever do as an individual. LG marketing department may be not as pro-active as Samsung or Apple but they are is not grazing grass at the same time. The global trend is very clear, phones will get bigger as majority of the market demands so.
Globally their is much more demand for big display phones than there ever was for compact ones. But compact ones do exists to take care of that minority, as their is a business opportunity there. That's why Samsung & Apple always release a big & small flagship phone each year. Maybe LG did not have the budget to create a Velvet & Velvet Plus with bigger screen. Hence they choose the model that will bring them more success globally, the bigger one.

YUKI93, 15 May 2020I don't ever think Quad DAC is any useful while using wirel... moreLet's clear the facts:
1) You can only enable & use LG's QuadDAC if you use a WIRED headphone connected directly to the smartphone's 3.5mm audio jack.
2) For wireless headphones using Bluetooth connection, digital data is transmitted directly to the headphone, and now the headphone DAC inside the headphone does the analogue conversion.
Human years are analogue, hence the headphone needs to finally emit analogue signal through its drivers. Since your music files are digital, the DAC conversion needs to happen somewhere either inside the phone or inside the headphone. However headphone DACs are of lower quality as they never have the abundance of power available inside the phone for the QuadDAC from the hulking batteries of the phone.
Serious music lovers for critical listening ALWAYS listens through headphone jack with high quality WIRED headphones to ACTIVATE the QuadDAC and enjoy the music. Music lovers use Bluetooth headphones for continence like when travelling.

RishiGuru, 10 May 2020Do you think these smartphone manufacturers are crazy pumpi... moreSir, You are right and wrong in many ways
Right, they don't care wheather a new or the old customer gets this phone, wrong for the new customers need to know that this brand exists in the mid-premium segment.
It will take some time. So in the transition time I'd say it will cost them more (no dac, no old customers, not enough new ones knowing about LG being okay in the mid premium segment).
I don't really get the big screen part. Most of the leading manufacturers make the big and the small phones. I'd go with a small Iphone if it had audiojack and decent DAC, I'd buy again HTC10 if it was still supported. LG makes a ton of big ones, G series was the last small one in the upper range. How adding another big phone to the portfolio could be a game changer?
Bringing analysis made for LG You are getting on the slippery slope. They made many bold moves that didn't work out because of flaws in their assumptions.

Anonymous, 13 May 2020As a hobbyist audiophile, I won't even consider it with Qua... moreSame here. I better have the LG G8X with QuadDAC rather than the Velvet. But the truth is 95% of the smartphone users don't give much to audio quality and it is not on their priority list.
Moreover Qualcomm have improved so much in audio department, as the non HiFi mode on my LG V30 uses their WCD9341 audio chip. The audio quality on this mode is still very good except for the headphone driving power of QuadDAC. But still there is a difference only if you understand the difference.
With the onset of hijacking the headphone jack from flagship phones in order to generate more revenue and enhance the booming Bluetooth airpods business, its only a matter of time when only may be the LG V series will have the auido jack.
Hope my predictions never come true.

Add Wacom stylus support in the specs, because just like the V60, this phone will also support that feature.

It's a great phone but it's a little bit pricey... It would have been better if the price is reduced.
