Rockster, 09 Nov 2019Any updates so far?I am expecting few and far between software updates on my Meizu 16th (Meizu 16 in China) . I bought this phone (8/128 GB version) from Amazon India at a heavily discounted price of INR 17K ($240). To be frank at this price I cannot complain much in terms of software updates.
I assume their never will be an Android version upgrade on Meizu 16th or for that matter any of Meizu's globally released flagships. 16th came with Android Oreo (v8.1) and will forever remain in Oreo. This is because android version upgrade on any phone costs a lot from the manufacturer standpoint. Also Meizu track record shows at least on their global versions they never perform this exercise.
However on the other hand I am quite certain, Meizu 16th being a flagship device will definitely receive future FlymeOS software overlay updates over Oreo which will provide us with a newer look and more features. Chinese manufacturers do not like the stock android look & feel, and always provide a software overlay/skin over android which makes it impossible for an user to differentiate a phone running FlymeOS 7 over android Oreo (v8.0) with another phone using FlymeOS 7 over android Pie (v9.0).
I am in love with the clean minimalist look and feel of FlymeOS 7. And I never used a Meizu before which says a lot. After the latest software update I found the build to be very stable with much reduced battery consumption. If I don't game, the phone lasts me for 2 days under moderate usage.

Aadi, 07 Nov 2019It's working on Qualcomm quick charge technology 4.0
Plann... moreAre you sure the Indian unit of Meizu 16th (Meizu 16 in China) comes bundled with QC 4.0 certified wall charger? Can you please share us to the source of this information.
Yesterday I performed battery charging speed test on my 16th. Battery was completely drained to 0% and charging was performed with phone switched off & bundled 18 watts wall charger connected. Below are the results:
0 to 20% -> 602 mAh -> 15 mins
0 to 25% -> 753 mAh -> 18 mins
0 to 45% -> 1355 mAh -> 30 mins
0 to 50% -> 1505 mAh -> 33 mins
0 to 68% -> 2047 mAh -> 45 mins
0 to 75% -> 2258 mAh -> 52 mins
0 to 82% -> 2468 mAh -> 60 mins
0 to 90% -> 2709 mAh -> 69 mins -> 1 hr 9 mins
0 to 93% -> 2799 mAh -> 75 mins -> 1 hr 15 mins
0 to 96% -> 2890 mAh -> 80 mins -> 1 hr 20 mins
0 to 99% -> 2980 mAh -> 90 mins -> 1 hr 30 mins
0 to 100% -> 3010 mAh -> 94 mins -> 1 hr 34 mins
The outcome points speeds that are slightly faster than QC 3.0. My Nokia 6.1 is QC 3.0 certified and the battery size is almost identical at 3,060 mAh. The 16th is every so slightly faster than 6.1. However it cannot keep pace with my LG V30+ which is also a QC 3.0 certified device, and this time the V30+ is ever so slightly faster than 16th. This can be due to a very advanced Qnovo QNI battery charging tech that LG uses on their flagship devices.
During Meizu 16th launch event in India, Meizu stated mCharge technology & 30 mins of charge will get us 67% of charge. However this figure was achieved using their 24 watts rated charger in a controlled lab environment. In real environment GizmoChina reported a much less 56% charge with the same 24 wattts charger under 30 mins. In India we are unfortunate to have an even slower 18 watts charger which can achieve 45% charge under 30 mins.

Alpha8, 07 Nov 2019So it seems the os is stable even though version is becomin... moreI have not seen the current prices this month, but during end of last month below were the prices of the three phones:
1) Meizu 16th: INR 20K (8/128 GB)
2) Asus 5z: INR 19K (6/128 GB)
3) Poco F1: INR 19K (8/256 GB)
The Poco F1 was never on my list because.. well it was never a flagship phone.. but a plastic phone with high specs .. low quality screen ... huge notch.
When it came to the decision of choosing between Asus 5z & Meizu 16th, 5z was the initial winner. I have said this before and I will say it again .. for identical prices 5z is always the best bet and you can look at a post below where I have compared both.
However, I was informed over here that special discounts for a limited period of time was available on Meizu 16th on Amazon India. The immediately bought the 16th at a discounted price of INR 17K ($240). For that discounted price, it beats the Asus 5z hands down.
Frankly at INR 17K, as of now you cannot have a better smartphone than Meizu 16th in India. The other reason was I always wanted to use a proper Meizu flagship as I love their symmetrical design approach, aesthetics & built quality. But previously I was always let down by their initial exuberant high price in India. For example the 16th was launched in India as on 5th Dec, 2018 with an online price of INR 40K ($565).
I will later post a detailed review of my Meizu 16th (Meizu 16 in China), however below are some of my initial impressions:
1) The Flyme OS 7 may be running on old Android Oreo (8.1) but the build is very stable.
2) The Flyme OS 7 is nifty & smooth with lot of options. It gets the job done.
3) The phone is extremely compact for its screen size. This is a big plus.
4) This is a true flagship device, with very good aesthetics.
5) The audio quality over speakers is a great experience, as it has stereo speakers. The sound is loud a clear. However I had better stereo experience with my Lenovo Vibe X3.
6) The audio quality through the 3.5 mm audio jack is GOOD. The phone uses last year's Qualcomm flagship, the Snapdragon 845 which has its own vastly improved Acustiq audio codec over previous generations. The in-built audio codec is responsible for the sound over headphones and with SD845 + Meizu's expertise in making portable audio players had the made the 16th sound sweet and neutral sounding. At least the audio quality is much better than any mid range SoCs, and leagues ahead of HiSilicon Kirin implementations found on Huawei & Honor implementations. However while the audio quality being GOOD in 16th, it nowhere near the levels of LG flagships like V30, V40 or Vivo NEX. The Vivo's & LG's have dedicated audio DACs and audio performance is on another level. I use the Meizu 16th for casual listening, but for critical music playback I always go back to my trusty LG V30+, Vivo NEX, Lenovo Vibe X3 or Vivo X5Max.
7) The battery while being not very big gets the job done. For me under heavy usage the phone lasts for a day, and for medium usage 2 days. The included 18 watts wall charger is fast.

Aadi, 05 Nov 201918 watt in India
If you get from outside 24 wattSo it seems India bound Meizu 16th (Meizu 16 in China) are not having the super fast 24 watts wall charger. Indian units are rather bundled with a 18 watts charger. I found the wall charger output rating as follows:
5V/2A = 10 watts
9V/2A = 18 watts
12V/1.5A = 18 watts
This charger is a fast charger for sure but I an not convinced if we are getting the Meizu mCharge technology with this. mCharge is not mentioned anywhere be it product manual or in the official Meizu website. It may very well be a Qualcomm QC 3.0 or evera QC 2.0 charger. However I have no qualms are the charger does rapid charge the phone.
Please correct me if I am wrong.

Alpha8, 04 Nov 2019Thank you so much for the clarification. Now it is clear to... moreMeizu 16th (Meizu 16 in China) is truly their flagship of 2018. I can verify that after using the phone for few hours. The phone got delivered yesterday, and on first boot, below were the software version:
Android Version: 8.1.0
Android security patch: Aug, 2018
Build Number: Flyme 7.1.1.0G
---
Before delving any deeper I first updated the software & then performed a factory reset. The phone acknowledged an OTA update was of 670MB size, with below change log:
1) Updated to Flyme 7.3.0.0G
2) Reduced abnormal power conversion
3) Added full color always on display (AOD) mode
4) Added super night mode camera
5) Improved compatibility with some apps
6) Improved phone language localization
7) Updated android security patch
---
After OTA update, below are the current software version:
Android Version: 8.1.0
Android security patch: Apr, 2019
Build Number: Flyme 7.3.0.0G
---
So it seems Meizu squashed many bugs that were previously present, especially the abnormal power consumption issue and latest android security patch.
Meizu is currently selling year old stock in Amazon India & Flipkart. Month & year of import of my phone is Dec, 2018. Meizu launched the 16th as on 5th Dec, 2018 in India and hence stock belongs to that time.
In the end, which ever way you look at it having a flagship phone like Meizu 16th (8GB/128GB) at rock bottom price of INR 17K ($240) is an awesome deal. Just go for it.
I will later share my user experience.

Alpha8, 03 Nov 2019Very well said and the price for which you got the meizu 16... moreIn India, only the "Midnight Black" color variant is available for Meizu 16th. That too with the highest configuration of 8 GB RAM and 128 GB flash memory.
Meizu launched the 16th in India as on 5th Dec, 2018 with an Amazon exclusive partnership, however it was until 21st Feb, 2019 that the phone was available for purchase on Amazon India.
Now related to the naming convention, it's true people are getting confused with Meizu's names schemes they following in China & globally for the same model. To clarify Meizu first released two flagship models in China, the Meizu 16 & Meizu 16 Plus in 2018. The Plus variant had bigger screen & bigger battery, everything else remained the same. When came lunching their flagships on global scene, the Meizu 16 was renamed as Meizu 16th and comes installed with all google services. The Plus model was never released outside China.
Down the line Meizu released a Lite version of their flagship Meizu 16, better known as Meizu 16X in China. It was a cheaper model with lower specs. However when the question arised to launch it globally, the renamed the the 16X as Meizu 16 globally.
Hence,
Meizu 16 (China) = Meizu 16th (Globally) [Flagship model]
Meizu 16X (China) = Meizu 16 (Globally)
Hope this helps & clears your confusion.
