Crackling Doom, 10 May 2020I blame Apple. They were the ones that started this stupid ... moreAs I said before removing the 3.5 mm audio jack from latest flagship smartphones was a carefully measured and finely executed strategic business decision by Apple. Samsung understood immediately and followed. Others manufacturers are now following.

Apple invested $3 billion to purchase Beats Audio. Samsung quickly followed and bought up Harman International. Harman includes JBL, Harman Kardon, Mark Levinson, AKG, Lexicon, Infinity and Revel brands. Why did they do this? Are they mad? NO.

They want to tie their smartphone business with their newly bought audio business in order to generate more revenue from both. How? By developing cool looking audio products and then forcing their smartphone users to buy them. How to force? Out went audio jack and in came property port supported headphones (Apple) or USB supported ones (Android), herd of own branded audio dongles, series of colorful Bluetooth headphones from their own audio brands showcased in their own stores across the globe. Marketing sells.

So are you buying a $1000 iPhone from Apple store? No worries we have this cool looking $200 Beats bluetooth headphones (which took $20 in hardware parts, and heck we glued the parts so the customer cannot mend it) that matches your shirt color. We also have different colors to choose from that matches to every shade of your lipstick - if the belong to the fairer sex. In the end its all marketing and business.

Have you ever thought why LG & Vivo is sticking to audio jacks in their flagships? Its surely not bcoz they love the audio jack. They will remove the moment they do see fit. But they are not doing so because a big chuck of their avid customer base are music lovers and their revenue will get hurt if they remove the audio jack. LG have their V series the last word of sheer audio quality over headphones in smartphones. Vivo with its audio roots have also created some the best audio centric smartphones like Vivo NEX S, X5Max, Xplay and may others models with awesome HiFi capabilities. For LG & Vivo the audio jack is a necessity in their flagships. That's why it is there.

They were the ones that started this stupid trend of removing the headphone jack in order to profit from dongle and wireless headphone sales. Other companies started following suit because they saw Apple's strategy was working. So long as people continue to buy phones without a headphone jack and buy accessories (such as dongles and/or wireless headphones), this trend will continue. I want no part of it. That's why I have never and will never purchase a phone without a headphone jack or those accessories.

All recwnt phones are shit, I think I will keep my G7 for another year. V60 is too big and doesnt have a telephote cam (at least i rhought so). But I'm not giving up my jack! And SD card expension! F*@k manufactuares nowadays

You guys with the headphone jacks are giving me a good laugh.
Real reasons not to buy the phone
                  Too big
                  Too heavy
                  No OIS on any camera
Only Chinese firmware gets support (but good one, even 4-5 year old budget phones still receive updates, but not an Android version update).

If you are only in it for the Android version upgrades buy Nokia phones, but those are pretty poor technically.

You find now many posts where people says audio jacks are obsolete. This is because Apple and Samsung have already successfully brainwashed these people which makes them think the audio jack is obsolete. Many other manufacturer like Meizu, OnePlus, Nokia, Oppo, Huawei, Google are now joining this fleet which will eventually lead to a day where no flagships will have audio jacks.

As of now I can find only three companies proudly holding on with audio jack with their flagships, LG, Asus and Vivo. And iQOO the sub-brand of Vivo.

Rk100, 08 May 2020Because it heavily depends on the intake of the battery, so... moreOk so if the battery is taking it in slower and the charge is still 30 watts doesn't that mean the wasted wattage is being turned into heat. Because according to the law of conservation of energy, that wattage doesn't just vanish if it's being used. And it most certainly isn't being held in the circuitry for the battery to take in at its slower rate. So it has to be turned into heat in that scenario. And wouldn't that mean it really doesn't charge at a true 30 watts because that extra wattage is being wasted? And if it wasn't overheating wouldn't that mean it's not charging at 30 watts?

I'm no electrotechnician so do explain if I'm wrong here.

People shouldn't be forced to shell out extra money for something that should be a standard feature on today's phones.

I, honestly, will have no pity if their weak audio business goes bankrupt.

Wait a minute... this has a 4500 mAh battery and charges at 30W. The OnePlus 8 Pro has a 4510 mAh battery and charges at 30W. So why does the 8 Pro charge 50% in 23 minutes, when this can only do 45% in 30 minutes? Are they lying?

Anonymous, 08 May 2020if you wanna 3.5mm jack + fm radio choose a second device. ... moreApple intentionally stopped including analogue 3.5 mm audio jacks on their devices, as they found a way to earn more revenue by selling 3.5 mm audio adapter dongles and headphones. May I put this to light that Apple was the first manufacturer which started including the 3.5 mm audio jacks on their iPhones a decade back and claimed they are following a revenue free universal standard where you plug in ANY headphone.

Apple has a closed loop eco-system, they earn from every third party that manufactures accessory for their proprietary products. And this includes any kind of adapters & headphones to their devices having proprietary ports. You have to understand the bigger picture. Apple, Samsung, Sony, Oneplus, Huawei or for the name any manufacturer are here to do business. They will take every measure possible to earn more revenue from their customer.

Any audio enthusiast or an audiophile will laugh at anybody who says 3.5 mm audio jack is obsolete. Because they understand audio and seen $10,000 audio equipment that outputs through the 3.5 mm or quarter inch audio jacks connected to $5000 over-the-ear audiophile-grade open-back headphones. Audio is analogue, because human ears are analogue and hence the audio jack is analogue.

The question you may very well ask, why other manufactures are following the same trend? Well because they now understand there is a new scope to earn more revenue and they are following this trend my making their own branded dongles and stuff. For example Meizu now have their own audio dongle which you now need to buy for their flagships like Meizu 17 or Meizu 17 Pro. They are all forcing the customer to go the audio dongle and bluetooth headphones way (Meizu just launched their HD60 bluetooth headphones) thus earning more revenue. A valid and very effective business model.

The next question is, why all these manufacturers except Apple are not doing this for their mid range devices? Well bcoz removing the 3.5 mm audio jack on their mid-range devices will turn off their specific group of "cash cow" customers who are very price sensitive and not willing to pay an extra $20 for a cheap audio dongle. These customers have 50 other options to buy a phone with 3.5 mm audio jack and they will rather choose those.

This very well cements the fact that till today their is a HUGE demand for 3.5 mm audio jack. Hence all manufactures are currently targeting to fool the deep pocket buyers who are ready to pay $500+ for their flagship phone and won't not mind shelling $50 more for the Meizu audio dongle or pay $100 for each of their bluetooth headphones with their own brand names. Or in case of Apple, demand money to the manufacturer of such headphone & dongles.

In the end it's all about doing business.

So they put a hole in the screen to get literally less than a percent higher of a screen to body ratio. If that isn't one of the worst decisions I've ever seen a design team make I don't know what is.

One of the few worse decisions made by a design team is the removal of the headphone jack. Why. There's literally no reason to remove it.
