rohith, 21 Mar 2016am also using 640xl but still am not getting any update to ... moreJohn, no need to install the Windows insider. Just follow the steps in the my post below (My nickname is shreepadg). Follow all the steps and that should be alright. I have penned my OWN experience.

I repeat, Windows 10 mobile is now available for installations. No need to install the Beta and invite trouble.

Use the insider app and select get preview release bui... moream also using 640xl but still am not getting any update to my mob every time going to microsoft care about update but they were saying windows 10 officialy diid not lnched need to wait few more days so u guys are saying updated ur mobls.....how it poassible ???

I have upgraded to Windows10 day before yesterday after getting to know about the availability of the upgrade from their Customer Care (020-30303838).
And am really happy to see the changes. A 3-step guide to upgrade:
WiFi is a MUST. Move ahead only in that case.
1) Create a backup of your mobile set. (All Settings -> Backup -> Backup now).
2) Go to Store and search for the app "Upgrade Advisor" from Microsoft.
2) Install this app.
3) Run it from the App list. It will do some processing to check if your handset is ready for the upgrade. A message is flashed accordingly. Suppose it says, Ready. Follow the on screen instructions.
4) Go to All Settings and choose Update where you will see a message, An update is available. Choose 'Update now'
5) It downloads the patch.
6) After the download is done, the actual installation starts. The phone cannot be used during this.
7) After the installation is done, it says so.
8) It is recommended to Restart the phone after you reach the above step
Start using. The whole process above took nearly 70 minutes in my case.
Wonderful changes were felt after the upgrade.
1) The UI (home screen) is clearly distinguishable due to the vibrant tiles.
2) Bit faster loading of apps and pleasant appearance.
3) Music player has changed from 'Music' (earlier) to 'Groove Music'. Nice UI
4) WhatsApp message action alerts have changed.
5) Contacts managing is better.
and so on...
Am still exploring. Am not a technowiz like many others. But all these are my own experiences.
One 'con' experience after the upgrade:
Multiple sms / conversation selection (checking an arrow) seem to have vanished. Am going to check with customer care if that has to be separately enabled or is it a bug.

Tapping it would always open up Google search with exactly "{searchTerms}" text! Some installed apps did not show in All Apps list and some had thumbnail icon problem. For the reasons, I reset phone. Still I have thumbnail icon problem, but the others are fixed.

I have been a funs of Nokia to lumia since 2007,with symbian version to now window phone,
in my life i have enyoyed more in N81 symbian three,where sound were very large and a can do any thing by that time(not now day in whatsaap life and more group memory capacity is a challenge)
am sad with this lumia 640 for the following
i fail to use mp3 as a ring tone for my phone,
keypad is not user friend for my finger and i try to find keypad on downloading but i didnt find it.
loudspeaker is not well powerfull so that i can not speak in 40 min without removing it.
i have just remember my n81, and blackberry and htc 816 which were in good speaker and keyboard too
