Moto G Play (2021) leaks through Google Play Console listing

Vlad, 18 December 2020

Motorola's ever-expanding roster of smartphones is set to expand even more next year, and one of the devices we should expect to hit the streets is apparently the Moto G Play (2021). Awkward name aside, we're assuming this is meant to be the successor to the Moto G9 Play, launched earlier this year. We're not sure why Motorola can't count past 9, though.

Anyway, the Moto G Play (2021) has been spotted in the Google Play Console. Its listing there tells us that it will be powered by the Snapdragon 460 chipset, which is confusing because its predecessor used the more powerful Snapdragon 662.

The phone will sport an HD+ touchscreen (720x1600 resolution), and run Android 10 out of the box, disappointingly considering it's supposed to be out next year. You can expect to see 3GB of RAM in at least one model, but more options could be offered.

As you can see from the image above, there's a waterdrop notch hiding the selfie camera, while the power and volume keys are on the right edge. Since the power button isn't recessed, it's not housing a fingerprint sensor, which means that will be on the back, just like it was in the G9 Play.

It's unclear exactly when the Moto G Play (2021) will get official, but in the cutthroat world of mid-rangers, new launches every few months are standard, so we don't think you'll have to wait a lot for this phone to materialize.

The original Moto G used SD400. 7 years ago! This has to be really, really cheap to be worth picking up.

Solid performer for 90 euro
