bought this phone in India, hyderabad for Rs.16700..M loving it..but m really not satisfied with the battery backup. The only reason I chose Defy+ over defy was the bigger battery, only to find that this is also not enough. The battery is totally drained at the end of the day, with 15-25 calls,2-3 hours wifi,1 hr music and a few messages. That's it. I don't even use 3G and other sim based internet services.

DanBal76, 06 Jan 2012Great phone, but lets be honest, Defy+ is nothing more than... moreI don't think it is any secret that it is the same hardware apart from the battery.
Note that if you put a Defy ROM on a Defy+ then the battery does not fully charge. only a few ROMs for the Defy+ at the moment.

I think of the Defy+ as just being the spec that the Defy should have been in the first place (with a faster processor). The larger battery obviously allows for the over clocking.

          Hi Everybody!
Im just hesitating between Nokia 701 and Defy+....
What do you recommend for me, which one is the better choice? Thanks for your answers!

One more question: Is it true that Defy+ hasnt a numeric keyboard when you are typing a message?

have got it 4 days back, this is a gem of phone.i havent tested for it ruggedness and will not test it intentionally.
i wish motorola brings ICS android 4.0 on this set,but motorola is the company who doesnt care about its existing customers.
i pray that this device upgrades to 4.0.

android fanatic, 06 Jan 2012bought this phone here in the Philippines for P17,000.00 ... moreI am actually loving the Swype keyboard. Only thing is I need to work out why it fails to consider custom words I added to the dictionary.
              but loving Swype.
No carriage return in SMS mode though (only in e-mails).

Great phone, but lets be honest, Defy+ is nothing more than a regular Defy. The CPU between the two is the same, the diference is that Defy+ runs at 1000Mhz while Defy's runs at 800Mhz, but it can be clocked at 1000Mhz, just like Defy+'s. Defy+ runs Gingerbread, while Defy runs Froyo. But then again, you can install Defy+'s Gingerbread on Defy (unnoficially, yes, but it can be done). The truth is, if you have a Defy, you can "transform" it into a Defy+. Motorola could have created a "real" Defy+ by simple adding a front facing camera to the handset. That way the "+" moniker would have been deserved.

I have had my Defy+ for 2 months now. I really love the small size of the defy+. Height and width very small for a 3.7" phone. I find it good for speed and the screen good too. The battery performance is good for me too.

It is however the most badly built smart phone I have owned. The micro USB slot is off centre and also is slightly larger than standard micro USB making cable other than the one that came with it not fit very well at all.
The volume button has come loose and rattles. The phone is meant to be somewhat waterproof but on my first mountainbike ride in the rain the back of the phone opened up (latch slid across) making being waterproof a bit of a farce.

Design wise the USB connection being on the side (and much lower than the volume control on the other side) is a pain for finding a car kit for it. Issue with design of latch on the back self opening too. The rest is great.

My only other issues have been the interface and software. Motoblur is very (incredibly actually) intrusive so I don't use it and did not register. Motorola go out of their way to try to deceive you into registering in the manual.

I don't use any Motoblur widgets because they are ugly even though this is a newer version of Motoblur. The launcher will not let you swap the software button link to apps even though there is a hardware button.
Worst contacts management I have ever seen because of they way it adds and merges new details. Really hard to look things up and you end up copying numbers onto paper and re-entering contacts so they are more usable.

I replaced the SMS software too as you can't resend a message that failed to send (no network etc) and it wouldn't even allow you to copy and paste properly. Cut and paste throughout like trying to dial a number in an e-mail is awful and Motorola drops numbers so again pen and paper may be required.

Overall I love the phone. I wish they had handed the design to another company though.

                    Hi guys,
I am using Defy Plus from past 2 days, and believe me it lives up to its expectations. Really RUGGED mobile. It fell out of my hand from first floor to the ground(Marble Floor) and I thought that's the end of my new mobile. But it jus got a small dent on a corner and not other damage done :-) . Performance wise its OK and lags a bit in between. Touch sensitivity, UI and Battery life is really good. Overall its a good mobile to have and just hope that Motorola will release android Icecream Sandwich for this model......

bought this phone here in the Philippines for P17,000.00

i have tested it out in the shower and the pool and it is the same as xperia active EXCEPT for the Wet Finger Tracking. Moto Defy+ doesnt have it.

Also when playing the music and the phone gets splashed, the sound seems to stop then play again.

i havent tested dropping it yet but if its only protected by Gorilla rather than DragonTrail (xperia active) then i am hesitant to do so.

keyboard options only give you, on-screen qwerty and qwerty with swype thats it. no phone pad or any other alternatives.

the unit i got DOESNT have a front facing camera. video recording is still at VGA (640x480) EVEN after updating to 2.3.6 (from stock 2.3.4). i find that photos are a bit smudgy and grainy.

battery life is okay not the best but it will get you past the day of moderate usage. battery being used as stated on its package is "Lithium Ion Polymer" just incase any of you are wondering.

voice calls are very clear and loud either in-call or loudspeaker. when playing music though, the sound seems scattered but very loud. you wont miss a call even when outdoors believe me you will hear it even the SMS is loud itself.

no lags in terms for processor speed. download and streaming speeds are very good. signal reception is strong (compared to xperia active where there is usually Emergency Calls Only).

screen is good also "similar" to sony ericsson's brightness intenisty although colors are not as punchy as AMOLEDs but still very good. the high resolution helps a lot in terms of web browsing and movies.

that's all i cant think of for now :)

ps. i also own an xperia active (so as not to be biased) and kudos to those who also own one :)
