Active is better than defy+ coz has bravia engine, hd video rec, front camera,wet finger tracking, xloud technology, barometric pressure sensor ,A.N.T+, pedometer,timescape ui,etc that defy/defy + doesn't have. Gingerbread runs flawless on 3" with 1GHz processor.
All the xperia lineup of 2011(including active) will get 2.3.4 update and then 4.0 update which will include new additional features such as usb on the go,Sony 3D sweep panorama for the camera, even better Facebook integration, Swype-like text input (T9 Trace), integrated screen capture, video chats via Google Talk and more,various NFC options, Xbox Kinect-like feature called Virtual Camera Operator, USB hub support,etc(http://www.gsmarena.com/android_40_ice_cream_sandwich_is_coming_on_all_xperia_2011_phones-news-3106.php)

goron, 06 Sep 2011it will die shortly if defy+ still have the same locked boo... moreso youre saying this phone isnt worth it? cause i am in a confused state.. i am never carefull of anything. a phone like this may save me some cash:).. but seriously.. should i wait for samsung xcover or should i look into this.. i mean even in the future i shouldnt be stuck.. now that you mention of the locked bootloader!.. as you said.. the other day i went to the stores to see defy. it was still on android 2.1 with i think red lens! and many people are telling me that moto customer support is horrendous.. which one should i go for????? in android!!

My only and biggest hope is that battery of this one will last longer, the old one is hardly staying awake about 7 hours if I don't use it too much! :(

samsung xcover is in pre-production mode when gsma test it so it too soon to judge it.
i dont want to comment for active cause i'm very disapointed with my last SE android phone, SE have same problem with moto, locked bootloader.
it is really funny watching how samsung and HTC grow their famous on android land with unlocked bootloader while the strict manufactures like moto and SE still suffered financial lost.
so when SE learn this with their new bootloader policy, moto still close their eyes and ignore their customers.
locked bootloader = no buy

I dont understand,since that phone is made for hard and tough occasion and in sametime they need to difference from other 'ordinary' phone devices,
why fogod's sake not insert in this model built-in antenna???

nowadays, video chat is a basic spec for smartphone.but i am very much disappointed to see this good phone without front facing camera.

i read that defy+ is getting 720p recording..so i believe moto did the right job by getting this.. its affordable.. life proof. and also.. why the heck do we need a dual core when a single core can take care of everything.. if you are a dual core enthusiast.. try the atrix.. its bloody cool!! i believe this is a good move cause the old defy cant record 720p videos nor watch them even after overclocking!! so whats the use.. also that red lens and green lens issue!!!... this is a more aggressive defy..a defy ready to kick anyone in its way..i like the defy more than the active(which by the way isnt worth looking into unless you are a sony fan) and the samsung xcover( which is seriously sad.. considering it failed the test which gsmarena had conducted.. sad) ultimately its defy who is now the king of the life proof phones:) and i like it!!!

I think it is a halfhearted upgrade from Motorola..
DEFY need better screen quality, i mean like IPS LCD on LG's phone or Retina display on iPhone 4..
dual-core processor like Galaxy S II..
and please fix the camera quality..the result is too noisy
