rigelstuff, 16 May 2011I'm seriously considering this and the Nokia N8 as a replac... moreReally depends what you need...
the Android OS is on the rise where everybody talks about it with plenty of resources and new apps around to serve your needs. Meanwhile Symbian is dying as committed by the company.
A friend of mine owns an N8, and I've the Defy. The response / internet browsing speed of my Defy is about 3~5 times faster than that of N8, plus in case I run out of battery, I can replace it with another unit. (a non-original spare battery comes with the phone where I live, an extra one with the charging cradle costs around US$5)
Internal memory is fine with over 1.2G to store apps, as many so called "new" Android phones offer around 300mb. Buying external storage is quite cheap nowadays, as I can get a 16GB card for about US$25.

AnonD-8448, 14 May 2011The Motorola Defy is NOT waterproof, it is water resistant,... moreThe company I work for has 40 field technicians and we decided to get these phones for them as they go to remote places. (repairs and servicing to cell phone towers) One techie lost his in a sugar cane field for 8 days. When he found it, it was caked with mud (rainy season) after washing all the mud off and charging it it was fine. He is still using it. I was impressed.

I'm seriously considering this and the Nokia N8 as a replacement for my Nokia E72.
N8 pros: multimedia capabilities (camera, TV connectivity), built-in memory, AMOLED screen;
Defy pros: ruggedness, Android OS; Android market; faster processor
Does anybody have any hands-on experience with these 2, enough to make respectable comments on their performances?
Also, this will be my first foray into a full-touchscreen phone, as I've always preferred full, hardware QWERTY keyboards. My primary use for the phone is SMS, so I need a good keyboard. Are the touchscreen keyboards OK?

The Motorola Defy is NOT waterproof, it is water resistant, while it might be good enough to drop into a small pool of water for a breif amount of time (as seen on some Youtube videos, this phone is not Waterproof and will fail if you use it under water.
as the manual states, it is water and dust resistant (a key reason I bought this over the Iphone 4, when I replaced my Iphone 3)
it is a fantastic little smartphone and a very good Iphone alternative, it does has some user issues in my case, with my non-delecate fingers I find the touch screen keyboard harder to use than the one on the Iphone 3 despite better resolution and more screen space on the Motorola Defy.
other than that, I think it should come with a 4gb memory card instead of the 2gb, but that's just me being picky.

If u are in india than never ever think to buy this mobile. Its better for u to go toward LG,Samsung,Sony etc. As I bought 3 month ago and it is my second mobile, first mobile screen stop functioning in the third day and second mobile(replaced) running quit fine. I think so the there is lot of differences between indian mobile and other countries mobile of same brand and lot of features example MOTOBLUR is not there in indian mobile .Before buying MOTO DEFY u should keep in mind Overheat, no sign of froyo updating for indian mobile, Gingerbread no chance etc.
