To use the IM software in the phone, you have to comfirm with ur service provider. Service Providers in Singapore don't support it...

The software use Wireless Village Technology...
Try your luck at this website : www.yamigo.com/

        To Lisa,
Latest S/W (Flash) version is 95R...
        go to http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?s=1cfdc088bb3622bf710032d00eadeaeb&threadid=488088&perpage=15&highlight=\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\%20e398%20\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\%20firmware&pagenumber=8

        to learn about it...

        To Kai,
There's a way to record Movies on E398, u have to flash it with V600 flash BUT TransFlash woun't be supported...so useless

To Ari_0, your wrong about only 2.5 mm jack cuz there's a ways a converter from 3.5mm to 2.5mm, it works great for me :D and a good HeadPhone sounds great!

        To L Maestro AkA Cool W, there's no E398i release...not confirmed yet..so i don't know about it..

          To topcat,

Yes, the speaker only supports 22kHz, but the head phones provided with the phone works at 44kHz, the sound quality is very clear, even at Radio sound quality (64kbps)

          To aatir,
I use mpegable X4 live and encode my videos to 3GPP. There's a function in the software that allows viewing of larger video size even if its encoded at a small video size(Full screen on E398)..if you need help, just e-mail me :) i'll help u make the software free :P

              To Vic:
Thanks for the advice, but maybe I'll buy the BT headset in Manila on my vacation (March 2005) to get a better technical advice coz there's not much support of this mobile here in Saudi Arabia.

              To Liza:
I bought mine in Dubai two months ago, and the S/W version is 59R. I dont know if there's an upgrade version since then. Anyway its very easy to check the S/W version at the store.

veejay - suggest you test the stereo bluetooth headset before you purchase them. i have a mono bluetooth headset that cannot play the mp3s. however, i heard from a friend that nokia phones can play their mp3s over the same blue tooth unit. thread with caution!

                    Hey moto-rians,
                    1. 56kbps
I suggest you try out 56kbps mp3s. I got good sound quality with them and have stored 35 songs on the trans card, and still left with 9.7mb of free space.
                    2. AAC
I'm experimenting the encoding and will announce my findings. All I know is E398 does not directly support this MP4-AAC format. So stick to Mp3 n don't rush to convert your tunes to MP4. Remind yourself this is a all-in cellphone, so for functions it's bits of this bits of that. It does not have the full features of for example, an ipod or a digital camera or a pda.
                    3. Voice recording.
                    *Announcement* FOUND!
Here's how to record voice. This is unofficial and undocumented.
                    Message->New MMS->Insert->Voice Record->(record n store)->OK->(send to: one time entry... then enter(a fake email address), To: x@x ->OK->Message Options->Save To Drafts.
Check Your email, draft folder. There you go have a voice recorded message!

                    Enjoy! (don't get) Confused..

Is is true that Motorola E398i will be released? I could well wait for improved functions like voice recording and video recording. So is it true?I hope so.
One more thing, any of you know a software to unlock the files on the phone internal memory?
                        Your help is greatly appreciated.
                        Thank You

Can anybody else pls confirm with me that, indeed, it doesn't record movies? That sucks man! And no IR either? Man, and I thought I found the perfect phone...

OK, so the Sony erricson supports aac meaning up to 40 tunes on SE, plus it's smaller in form and has FM. But cmon people, Moto E398 has a better quality screen, mpeg4 playback, costum headphones to be used (2.5 only, no big looking DJ style headphones), and has up to 128mb of memory soon to be 256mb =)
The pearl and red version, perhaps with some Phillips in-ear phones with noise cancelling and bass boost; lol drooling just thinking about the metal tunes I will be listening to.

topcat, at 96kbps or even 80 kbps sound quality is very good in the speakers. A diference is noticeable at 64kbps...
For video converting use nokia multimedia converter, it doest the job for me.
an mp3 converting program is available on the motorola cd which comes with the phone.

It actually doesn't support aac...I tried that before...it didn't recognize the file.
