No thanks. I already have telephoto lenses and I'm getting a phone with a zoom lens for portability.

BTW, here's a photo of a croc I took before the pandemic, using a medium telephoto lens (50mm, just like most smartphones). There were 8 of them in the enclosure. Maybe I should jump right in to take a better closeup shot next time and avoid being lazy?

Pixel 5a doesn't have "fast" charging, oh well it wasn't that important in the first place. Truth is, even if you don't need a feature, it's still expected in a flagship phone (signalled by the ultra name and 898 chipset). Otherwise, you could just get a Pixel 4a for hundreds of dollars less and call it a day. After all, it has the basics, right? But I'm certainly feeling the burn... wish I had telephoto

Zoom lenses can have focal lengths that cover the telephoto range.
The digital camera—including mobile phone cameras, mirrorless, DLSRs— with a fixed lens of 24mm OR 30mm (where the sensor and algorithms do the work to achieve zooming) can only do digital zoom when you want to make far away objects appear closer where you often get pixelated results. You would need a well-designed zoom lens to do optical zoom.
You are a "professional" with a tremendous amount of "experience." You're supposed to be teaching me instead of me teaching you.

No Telephoto? No problem.
I would just walk near into the subject and snap a photo because I am a real professional with lots of experience.
• When I go to travel, I would go near anything.
• Crocodiles basking in the sun? Snap a photo in front of it. Problem solved.
• Birds perching on an electric fence? Piece of cake. I would climb near it to take a decent shot. No need to use telephoto lenses.
• Taking a photo of a burglar's plate number? No problem. Confront the bad guys and ask for a groufie while the car is in the background. Smile.
• Documenting nature? Get up close and personal. Go where the tornado takes you. That's the adventure.
• Conferences where I want to take a photo of the presentation on the screen and guests? I would go to the front and block everyone's view and the projector. That's CONVENIENCE.
• Sports photography? No problem. I'll run alongside the athletes while taking a photo of their performance. Forget about the referees.
