Motorola Edge 40 pops up on Geekbench

Sagar, 14 April 2023

Motorola unveiled the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2-powered Edge 40 Pro earlier this month, which was expected to be joined by the Edge 40, but that didn't happen. And while we await more details about Edge 40's launch from Motorola, the smartphone has popped up on Geekbench, suggesting the launch is close.

The Motorola Edge 40 unit that passed through the benchmark database scored 1,105 and 3,542 points in Geekbench 6's single and multi-core tests, respectively. The unit ran Android 13, had 8GB RAM onboard, and was powered by MediaTek's MT6891Z_Z/CZA SoC, comprising four cores clocked at 2GHz and four at 2.6GHz.

Geekbench doesn't mention the name of the SoC, but rumors claim the Motorola Edge 40 will have MediaTek's Dimensity 8020 chip at the helm. It's also worth noting that the designator "MT6891Z_Z/CZA" mentioned in the Geekbench listing's CPU information section resembles the Dimensity 1100's model designation, which is MT6891Z/CZA. Besides, the Dimensity 1100 also has an eight-core CPU, four of which have a maximum clock frequency of 2GHz, while the other four go up to 2.6GHz.

Benchmarks sometimes get the details wrong, so we'll have to wait for more sources to corroborate this bit about Motorola Edge 40's SoC to be sure.

The smartphone will come with a 50MP primary camera (with OIS), a 13MP ultrawide camera, and a 32MP selfie unit. It will sport an in-display fingerprint scanner and feature stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos tuning. The Motorola Edge 40 will also have an IP68 rating.

I think it's fair to say that the Snapdragon 7+ Gen2 certainly is pushing it's performance beyond what could be called a mid-range chipset(it's 7-series name aside), chances are it's quite an expensive chipset given its running an...
