mina, 07 Oct 2008hi stuart! can i ask u 1 more question? are d keypads easy... moreFor me it's easy and the feeling is nice too. But I guess it's not something outstanding as compared to other phones. However, if you have small hands you'll find it harder to reach number 1 & 7 but I don't think it's really that bad. Why not test out an actual unit or a dummy unit at a shop to find out?

@Tim08
The "secret" code you're looking for for Motorola phones is *#9999#

@Tim08
With every phone out there the following key prompts get the IMEI number: *#06#
To check the software on the V8 you go Settings>Phone settings>Properties. There you'll get the software version.

Tim08, 06 Oct 2008Stuart, you said that you sold off your Motorola V8 two wee... moreYes I sold off my V8 few weeks ago - to a close friend and best thing was he initiated the sale, not me. Up till the time before I handed over the V8 to him, my previous V8 was in really good condition, it was that good, I kind of missed it even now. The elegance, the voice quality, the signal bar was really stable as compared to my current E8 maybe because the E8's software is not out yet. The E8's good, just that those few factors are better with V8 - that's what I personally observed.
Hard to say whether bar phone is better than clamshell design. I think that depends alot on so many factors. You'll just need to keep testing as many as you possibly can to get practical feedbacks and bear in mind what you feel best doesn't mean the others will feel the same. Different taste, different views for different people. The phrase "What's good for you could be poison for others" is really true. Most importantly, go for whatever that makes you happy, not what other people like.
Sorry friend, I do not know the secret code although I heard there's such code available. I only know how to check the IMEI number, software version via the normal way.

Stuart, 04 Oct 2008Many thanks for your compliments. I found out there are man... moreStuart, you said that you sold off your Motorola V8 two weeks ago in April 2008. So you don't use your Motorola V8 again do you? Is your phone can't operate anymore?
I often hear people say "bar" mobile phone is better than "flip/clamshell" mobile phone. What do tou think?
Do you know the secret code of Motorola RAZR phone ex. how to know IMEI number, software version, etc.?
That I know just Sony Ericsson mobile phone. Just press right, *, left, left, *, left, * in the stand by display. You will know it.
Thank you, Stuart!

congratulations motorola , my first moto cell phone product sice 1992. it's beutiful and practical in real world. it speaks very good, i need a real camera for my job and for internet and computer i walk (literally) with an ux-480(sony). you invest in materials and not in paying a name (dolce gabana). stay that way, now the technology changes every day. My e61i it's out of date , this moto wil stay while their materials resists.

"Just to share, I noticed that the ROKR E8 design on the ... moreMany thanks for your compliments. I found out there are many others like you & me that are here for the same reason - helping others. I'm also visiting other phone sites in gsmarena like E8, ZN5 & Asus P750.
The ZN5 looks good, without 3G that suits me perfectly but not some people. I still missed the ear-to-phone voice clarity of V8 as compared to my current E8 eventhough the E8's battery life is much much better. E8's ear speaker is narrow, the speaker opening is surrounding the "M" logo and I remembered the V8 has a thin line spread out, maybe that could be the reason, I guess. I'm eyeing again at another upgrade, this time on my PDA phone. So doing some research reading now.

Since you have not bought this phone yet, check out whether your country has the V8's 2nd version (built in 2GB instead of 512MB). 2GB certainly comes in handy in terms of storage than 512MB and both versions don't support memory card.
Another info I can share with you is the Crystal Talk technology in Motorolas. I've tried it many times and another reviewer's (100 Moto)comment is also the same. I spoke to my wife (she's using SE K550i) recently again while she's at a noisy restaurant and I can practically hear all the background sound, noisy & pitchy. At that time, I was also at another crowded restaurant and she told me she hardly can hear the background noise, another testimony on this technology.

Anonymous, 01 Jan 1970I have to be frank, in V8's forum, you'll most likely get the V8's vote and Sony Ericsson's forum their support.
Depending on what you (yourself) want, you'll eventually need to decide. Personally I guess you probably wanted V8's design with K800's specs (just guessing). Really, if your priorities in choosing a phone are its solid built, good voice quality (CrystalTalk Technology), fashionable slim clamshell design then I feel V8's for you. K800 is better in camera dept and comes with 3G (slower 384kbps) with memory card - if that's what you are looking for.
(bear in mind 3G requires subscription so if you need & really uses it, go for it, as for me, I don't need 3G)
It is not an easy decision, just make sure you choose what you really want and IMPORTANTLY, don't regret about it later because whatever's done, it's done . It's a decision made. Good luck.

"Just to share, I noticed that the ROKR E8 design on the USB cover is slightly different, the shape is the same but they made it rotatable this time making it easier to plug in the microUSB cable and you don't need to bend the cover anymore".
That's the best solution as far as the port is concerned. It is more durable than the current one on the V8. I have to agree with you on some cell phone shops than would replace your new parts with worn out ones to fix other peoples' damaged phones. Great advice there, Stuart!

Gerard, 01 Oct 2008EMSo6,
...Stuart also recomended to me that
but the nea... moreGerard,
I was "away" for couple few days, no internet, no business, just me and my family. Yup, we (EMS06 & me) did talk about the USB cover being split up at the backpages. I got mine claimed free from the Motorola Service Centre, before that I've also tried glueing it but it came off again after some time. Depending on your luck, you might be able to claim it. Ask your dad or someone with adult voice to call Motorola Service Centre to enquire first about the USB cover claim, you'll stand a better chance. I know it's not supposed to be this way but the world is such, when someone hears a teenager's voice instead of an adult, they tend to take advantage of them.
Another thing about sending your phone to the SHOP instead of the Motorola Centre is you need to be very careful about them - just be extra careful. If you know them well, I believe it's OK. The reason why I said that is because a lot of phone shops these days also do repairs for damaged phones so it's easy for them to manipulate or exchange internal parts (your V8 with another). Imagine if your phone is not under warranty next time, they can tell you they discover another problem with your phone and you've to pay for it extra parts. At that time, you can say whatever you want like "my phone wasn't like this when I sent in" or even accused them of exchanging parts but you do not have proof - it's just a waste of time. Many unscrupulous things like this are happening. If the Motorola Service Centre is not too far then it's better to go there.
Just to share, I noticed that the ROKR E8 design on the USB cover is slightly different, the shape is the same but they made it rotatable this time making it easier to plug in the microUSB cable and you don't need to bend the cover anymore.
