        @fresh
what do you mean the usb cable won't work? I take it you've installed the drivers that's why your query isn't so clear. As for the battery most of us are suffering from a shorter standby time, it's the battery. I'm getting the 960mah battery next week as I've ordered one.I suggest you get yourself a higher capacity battery to solve that problem.

              Wow, been away
              for some time
              now! @adnan-
              thanks for the info
              on the 920/960
              batteries. @stuart-
              well said!
              Just to clear a
              few things
              regarding my
              battery standby,
              my reception is
              full bars 90
              percent of the
              time and no I'm
              not on the phone
              all of the time. I
              totally LOVE this
              phone except the
              battery standby
              time.

After reading so many "good" & "bad" comments from users or non users from this website about V8 & V9, I've decided to post in mine now.

I bought my V8 about 5 months ago, all in all went back to the Motorola Service Centre about 2 times for help already. Now this may start to sound bad BUT in actual fact I'm going to give you my thumbs up. No, I'm not going to be sarcastic.

1st - I went back to "buy" the battery cover resulting from the black silicone worn off. Initially I used to put this phone in my jeans pocket and being inside my tight pocket and the rough surface, logically the soft silicone layer got worn off from friction after some time. I don't blame the phone design, it's meant for good grip using that material, just that I didn't treasure it. Guess what, the guy at the service centre just change that for me for free! (No warranty on phone cover. Assuming I drop the phone immediately after buying it, it's really not their fault, blame ourselves for carelessness) I was happy of course, I don't need to haggle or make a lot of noise to get it - they just happily change it for me and told me "It's OK sir, there's no charge. I know some guys might say it's because they know it's their design problem, so hey, what if they used plastic or plain metal, then the review would say the phone is too slippery to hold or too plasticky feel. For that I appreciate their thought and didn't compromise on materials - all for us, user's benefit.

2nd - I've used other brands of handphones before until the last 2 units they were Motorolas, my previous one was Z3. My job requires me to travel extensively and believe me, I do know many poor reception "grey spots" area. I happened to pass by this kind of area and my V8's line got cut off during conversation whereas my previous Z3 would only receive line disturbances & regain it's signal without line cut. So I went back to their Service Centre & related the whole story with a little disappointed look. The guy told me give him 10 minutes, I did and he came out telling me he's performed a software upgrade for me & my phone should improve. Personally I have been trying to check from the Motorola website for upgrades but the V8 doesn't show in their menu, only V9. The guy told me being official Motorola Service, they usually have the upper hand on the latest softwares. True enough, my V8's reception has been much much better now I noticed the signal is also much stable than before.

My personal experience, THUMBS UP to their quality product and service. In today's IT / electronic world, manufacturing and maintaining exactly the same standard would be extremely difficult. So I'm not saying those bad feedbacks from some of the reviews here are true or not true. It could be that they are unlucky to get that problem set during purchase. I believe this happens to all other brands too, even cars for that matter. I'm not going to condemn other brands here but instead share with you guys why I select the V8 instead of other brands.

                  - The internal casing is made of stainless steel, finished with chemically hardened glass that gives that liquid metal look. Can you find another phone manufacturer that put in so much effort to create this phone with such built quality? Hold it in your hand and you could feel just how solid it's built. This was the impression that captured me the first time I tested it.
                  - The V8's Crystal Talk feature is really impressive. My friend using another well known brand phone which is known for its sound quality was impressed with the clarity of the ear speaker when she borrowed my phone to call her friend. She said it's even clearer and crispier than her phone. I agree, it's even better than the Z3 I owned. My important criteria is clear, undisturbed conversation with my customers during phone business discussions.
                  - Design, for such a sleek and thin phone, it can cramped in such quality and good materials which is hard to find. Many other brands today are very "plasticky".

So if you think my justification on this phone, V8 or V9, (they are brothers and sisters)as stated above make sense, I believe you'll agree with me. If you like fantastic camera, 3.2Mp & above and fantastic MP3 player in a mobile phone, try something else but you can't get the features I have specified above.

That's the problem with human beings, we all wanted everything but somehow hesitate to pay for it. I would love to have the same too but I learnt to compromise in life. Life is never perfect and fair. Buy it if it makes you happy and move on.

                  Thanks for reading.

i would buy this phone straight away if i could turn the java backlight off. the motorola v3x can, i dont understand why they dont put this option on the v8. the v8 is like a downgrade compared to the v3x.

No, there isn't any option for java settings like you said. I checked. There are only two options, 1 is set for specific access point for internet connection and other is, don't remove option which is not allow accidental delete the software.

Hi, just read your comment online about your message alert tone. If you want to customise it and turn off the talking voice you need to go into:-
main menu > settings > phone settings > talking phone > caller ID readout and set it to OFF.
Then you need to set the ringtone/music that you want as your alert by:-
main menu > Profiles > normal > edit > (move to message tab) > message alert > select ringtone >
from there you can choose your ringtone or music for your message alert and save it. Your chosen ringtone/music should now be your message alert tone.

I hope this helps and enjoy your phone.
