To Cokeman: actually, not all walkmans are candy bar phones. the w710/w300 are flips and the w580 is a slider. and yes, this phone is yet another razr clone from the real original moto. I'm not saying the razr has a bed design- it's one of the best- but moto just needs to design something different for a change.

For those that say they are tired of the razr design, thats nice, from my experience those people are usually nokia, SE, samsung fans. Someone actually said the phones style looks old...you've got to be kidding, it cracks me up . Whats the difference in the razr compared to the walkman series? None walkman series is the same old candy bar style with a few minor changes...Nokia is known for making bricks if it isn't 25mm thick we don't want it.
Now lets look at the Razr2 (agree a different name would be better) There isn't a standard phone out that can compete with the power of the V8 500mhz, oops I was wrong there is 1 other handset that out powers it, & guess what it to is made by Motorola. Rokr Z6 sports a 628mhz processor. There isn't a Nokia, Samsung, SE that can touch either of them. So gripe about the design all you want, but you know it's true...& now tha Moto is starting to expand the Linux platform you haven't seen nothing yet.

I do know the V8 is selling at CTI-Miami. But I'm not paying what they are asking & I'm definitely not buying right now. I have talked to a Cingular rep that I know very well. I'm not up for an upgrade just yet; so I had told him I was going to buy the Moto V-8 without a contract.

I had my mind on the V-9 at 1st; but after reading about both of these phones, I decided on the V-8. For a few reasons. One being battery life. The V-8 does have the better of the two. And they are still working on a few things with this phone. That's the reason alot of people are waiting.

The V-8 is going to sell for less than $500.00. And the V-9 may go a little over 5. I have been chomping at the bit for this phone; but I can wait a few more weeks if it means saving almost $100.00. In fact; I think it's Cell Hut that's already selling it for $494.00. It may be pre-order on that site; though. Because like I said. They aren't through with this phone.

                PsDH,

How do you get 1st week of August? Or, is that the V9 for ATT.

All my sources tell me within the next weeks(1-2) in Hong Kong and Europe. Price is estimated to be $475-$550 without a plan.

Carriers that will be receiving the V8 are Orange UK and Smartone-Vodafone in HK.

History Lesson boys and girls....The original RAZR had a retail value of about $500 dollars with a contract and $800 without. Motorola's original plan for the RAZR was to be a high end exclusive fashion phone. But as it popularity grew, they wanted to expand thier market so the lowered the price to a more accepted level and the rest is history. They are at a high price right now because of the limited availability so give it time and the price will come down by the time they are mass produced.

The V8 has a large internal memory capacity (no need for a micro SD card) and supports EDGE technology.

The V9 will be a little bit thicker, internal memory will be smaller but will support a micro SD card and run on 3G technology.
