"this phone looks awfuly plastic! well most moto phones do ... Im not suprised by the fall in sales cause no one in my class has motorola."

hey JACK, a few points.

1) none of the RAZR handsets produced after the V3 were made of plastic. they were all high grades of magnesium and aluminum. so i don't care how this may look, the RAZR maxx is crafted of the same metal, now with a strong quartz glass front and touch sensitive buttons.

2) sales were NOT DOWN. profits do not equate to sales. that is called REVENUE. motorola sold more phones this past quarter than they did last quarter and the year ago (Q3 2005) quarter. REVENUE, the amount of money they collected from sales, is UP 17% to over 10 billion dollars. that's why their stock has only fallen by a small percentage, investors eventually cut through the crap from articles like the one KAL posted and started buying again:

"Many feel the two (Motorola and Nokia) remain attractively valued, and neither company was punished too severely for their missteps. Motorola fell 5% following the news, but at $23.31, it remains close to its 52-week high of $26.30 set last week."

http://www.cellular-news.com/story/19962.php

stock price only fell a few dollars yet you RAZR-haters think motorola might sell the company? might merge with another? LMFAO. after a good Q4 2006 with higher profits from sales of phones like the RAZR maxx, all will again be looking up in Motorola-land.

    "This phone looks pretty cool, hey its got a windows media player! Plus its a HSDPA handset, if your into downloads and high speed internet, i think its at the least worth a look. i am looking forward to its release."

    production on phones like the RAZR maxx and RIZR have already started. the RAZR maxx should be available for europe by the middle of next month, Master Ryu while coming to America early 2007. it is indeed worth a look.

      kal has written NOTHING of substance.

      you obviously know nothing of the stock market, kal or business in general. you claim motorola is no longer making a profit and they're thinking of selling the company? LMFAO

      motorola profit is only down compared to 3RD QUARTER 2005. analysts do not compare to the previous quarter of the year, they compare to the year ago period. how old are you, exactly?

      during third quarter 2005, motorola's profits were bigger than ever care of a rare gain they recorded. according to bloggingstocks.com,

      "In last quarter financials, Motorola profit slumped 45% from a year ago (due to a one-time gain last year), while revenue upped itself 17%"

      http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2006/10/24/can-motorola-hold-on-to-its-slim-mojo-in-future-quarters/

      read the words, kal, "due to a one-time gain last year"!!!! motorola still recorded over $900 million dollars in profit, kal.

      the point to look at is REVENUE. again read the words kal, "while revenue upped itself 17%"!!! this is the money motorola made overall. revenue from Q3 2005 to Q3 2006 JUMPED from $7 billion to over $10 BILLION. do you know what that means, kal? that means motorola sold MORE phones and collected MORE monies from those sales than they did last year.

      what you're looking at is PROFIT. profit was exaggerated Q3 2005 because motorola counted a huge one-time gain. now they have equilibrium once again. but if you take away the gain, motorola had more profits in Q3 2006 than they did in Q3 2005, kal.

      motorola sold more RAZRs and other phones than they did at this time last year or any year. they will soon be selling even more as the RAZR has just come to US carriers Sprint and Amp'd Mobile. the only reason PROFIT (remember the word kal) was down was due to the RAZR being situated as a middle end phone (more sales at a cheaper price) while KRZR, RIZR, RAZR xx, the beloved RAZR maxx and other high end handsets had yet to move out the door. these are the phones that bring in higher PROFITS (keyword again), kal. and they will for holiday season Q4 2006 as they are now shipping.

      please, do some actual research, you nokia fanboys. don't just post some piece of info you found on the internet when searching for porn while your parents were out at the supermarket.

        Kal has written something with substance and fact and you Moto fanboy fanatics cannot accept it. Instead you get rude ,nasty and personal - Moto 2 little .

        Don't you know, Motorola's shares also fell ?

        Moto's highest market share is in the US only. This accounts for the 2nd placing for mobile handsets . Most of Europe and Asia minus China ( maybe ) prefer other brands.

        This below is an example of how mobile phone brands are distributed throughout US and Europe via mobile internet tracking.

          @PSPa

          If someone asking me a direct question I would certainly respond. I'm not talking about Samsung phone here. Its someone else asking me to.
          What makes me post here in Moto forum is that even though I like samsung, I know their good and I certaily know their bad part and I have no problem acknowledging them. But I feel pitty that its not the same when it comes to Moto fans. You guys simply refuse to accept any shortfall. Well I'm glad to see such loyality and I'm sure Moto is happy as well. But all I want is to see moto improve. If they dont, then they simply don't deserve the 2nd spot.

          and @ moto 2 little since you have asked...

          First of all, that was not my story.
          Socondly, there is no fabrication as I'm posting the source as well.

          Here is what Samsung is from a year before:

          "Samsung shipped 30.7 million mobile phones, a quarterly record and 4.4 million more units higher than in Q2."
          Source: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2006/10/16/samsung_q3_2006_earnings/

          Have a great day folks.

              @moto 2 little

              I've already posted the link of the whole report. Seems like you dont have time to read or you dont like to read about your beloved brand not living up to its expectations.

              That was quarterly results. Even though moto says their market share rose from 22.1% to 22.4%, market analysts and investors are singing a different song. In their oponion, all the other manufacturers that you have mentioned did better in 3rd Q...and they are not biased.

              Read again dude:

Im not suprised by the fall in sales cause no one in my class has motorola, they used to the popular choice but now they struggle to keep up with Sony erricson, samsung and nokia

                            Kal - you are a refreshing voice of reason here on this posting forum - a person who sees the facts and figures and then posts an opinion with substance behind it . I like that and I totally agree with you.

                            Motorola may merge ,IMHO the amrket si very tough and it seems they can't keep up . It is a well known fact that Motorola spend much time and resources ,finding new material to make their phones out of - eg. the the new Pyrex KRZR but they do not spend much time on their software.

                              Someone posted ----------

                              "Motorola has a big job - to live up to the success of the RAZR phone's appeal. I frankly think the original RAZR phone is great looking and very innovative but living up to that will be hard for Motorola."

                              -----That’s so very true. Its a tough job. And yes motorola failed to live up to that in 3rd quarter.

                              Just a few extract from their 3rd qrt report:

                              "Motorola Inc. (MOT.N: Quote, Profile, Research) on Tuesday posted a 45 percent fall in quarterly profit and disappointing revenue growth as sales of mobile phones and wireless network equipment were weaker than expected, pushing shares down 8 percent."

                              "Motorola said profit fell 45 percent to $968 million, or 39 cents, from a year ago, when it posted 39 cents of unusual gains."

                              source:
                              http://today.reuters.com/news/articlebusiness.aspx?type=ousiv&storyID=2006-10-18T001959Z_01_WEN7145_RTRIDST_0_BUSINESSPRO-MOTOROLA-EARNS-DC.XML&from=business

                              As a observer I wont be surprised to see them merging with any electronics company in near future to SURVIVE in this market.

                              @vegita
                              This is NOT the 1st 3.6mbps HSDPA phone. It was Samsung who first demonstrated 3.6mbps. read here:
                              http://www.mobiletechnews.com/info/2006/01/04/124106.html

                              As far I know, Motorola camera quality is at the bottom among all major mobile makes. They don’t even qualify for a camera review unless you think all the mobile-review sites are biased.
                              Peace.

NOT CLOSE, the quality of motorola 2mpx are not even close the d600/x820 came not to say near the n90, motorola doesn't even have autofocus! their cameras only produce blurry pictures. www.mobile-review.com check the reviews!.

                                  open your eyes!! N-series sux. Almost all nokia and Samsung phoes are UGLY. I vomit if I have to look on them. Only moto can make stylish phones, and sometimes the SE, but just look on their k800 and w950 how they look. I never seen a moto, which made me vommit because of its ugliness.

                                  But you're a bit right about features. It's lack a 3mp or more camera and an autofocus, but the v3x had one of the best 2mp cams and krzr k1 makes good cif video. Also it's not a smartphone, but moto is good at them. But this is the first phone with 3.6Mbit hsdpa I have ever seen.

                                    Motorola is a century behind on their phones, they have to get over the RAZR style. They need better features, better looking themes, better sound quality, etc... yet they keep coming with new versions of RAZR with same features almost.

                                        although i do think that motorola have brought out way to many in the razer series. i kinda like this one. the button look alot more accessible and the smart camera and mp3 buttons on the front make it look alot more inviting. i haven't seen it upclose proper yet but im sure the menu systems will be as difficult as ever.
