Anonymous, 28 Sep 2008i very same to know that the latest release of em30 just as... moreE8 has 2GB "bulit-in" memory, with the phone supporting 8GB external memory, that makes E8 can support up to 10GB memory.

E8 also has the "omega wheel" which EM30 does not.

Which one suits you depends on...1)your budget 2)if the internal 2GB memory is important to you.

I'm considering buying this phone but I want to know about games
      Does it support Java?
Can I install emulators as in the A1200? (they both are linux based, right?
      I haven't found any app nor games at 320 x 240 screen resolution, can I still install a 176 x 220 resolution game?

      Thanks a lot

I have the same thought like yours when I first bought the E8 but until now didn't proceed with it. I've checked & even gone to a shop specializing on transparent layer wrap for phones (you can also choose transparent layer with designs on it). They said they have done it before on E8 and according to them, not problem at all - that is according to them. I've asked them whether it'll affect the keypad's response and they said no. Like you, I was thinking of buying a big screen protector and cut to mold on E8 myself but also scrapped the idea due to its adhesive substance used, I was not sure whether it'll react chemically in the long run & damage the keypad area. (I'm sure some might think I'm overly cautious) I decided to play it safe since there are so many uncertainties and knowing some businessmen will do anything these days to make business. If you are "adventurous" enough to try it after considering the pros & cons, go ahead but I certainly are not willing to risk it. Nearly forget to put this down, the Phone screen protector might have a problem covering the entire phone especially the numeric keypad area due to the small bumps, which could cause air bubbles and spoil the layer's look. Again, I was not willing to try it out so I might be wrong about this method, it's solely theoretical.

Keenen, if you decides to try it out, please let us all know the outcome but being another E8 "comrade" myself like you, I would not recommend you to try it. You'll be the guinea pig for all of us here, is it worth it? I can actually suggest "go ahead & try it" for my own benefit but that's not me.

When a feature is offered worldwide to everyone, there's always different views and different feel from different individuals. This is one way of minimizing negative feedbacks from them as they can now adjust it according to their own feel.

Now I'm kind of used to the scroll wheel, it's funny that I started to think that this feature should be included in the list of features for my next phone upgrade. So for me, maintain the Scroll Wheel - with sensitivity adjustment like the mouse for our PC.

sujith, 25 Sep 2008Hey Stu, I'm so much impressed to grab E8. But would like ... moreHere are my comments based on my personal experience with this phone:

                              1) WEB BROWSING
Very subjective, for me, it's OK. The screen on mobile phones (around 2" to 2.4") and PDA phones (around 2.8" to 3.6") generally are still small for web browsing experience. Most importantly, if you are able to "manage your expectation level" and prepare yourself that it shouldn't be compared to a computer, then I believe it's not a problem. I rarely use the E8 for browsing, instead I frequently use my PDA phone (2.8" screen) for internet access using free WIFI and that's mostly for email, Avantgo service & occasional browsings. So if we ask ourselves what can a 2.2" phone screen do and what a 15" notebook computer does, it make sense we have to give & take. I found E8's EDGE network speed is quite alright becoz of the small screen.

                              2)PHONE RECORDING
Yes, definitely. Under Multimedia menu, choose the last item, Voice recording. While on the line with someone, you can record both voices clearly. To retrieve back the voice recording, go to Office Tool menu, look for File Manager and then voice Notes. *Bear in mind that in some countries, recording a conversation without the consent of the other party is not permissible in the court of law.

                              3)STORING MESSAGES
It's really hard to say exactly how many messages you can store in E8 although I'll say it can store a lot. There are other factors. Are you referring to the 2GB built in? How big is your memory card? 1GB, 2GB, 4GB, 8GB? What type of message? Text or MMS? Did you keep many songs, pictures, videos in your phone? With all these variants, it's hard to tell exactly how many messages can be stored in the E8.

                              4) PHONEBOOK STORAGE
I synced my E8 with my PC's Microsoft Outlook Contact and I have about 1200 contacts in my E8 so far without problem. I'm not so sure how many can it store at its maximum but 1200 is quite good already - without caller's photos.

                              Hope the above helps.

As mentioned, the scroll wheel is somewhere between touchscreen vs. traditional arrow navigation. Giving the speed of touchscreen without have one.

I still hope Moto won't give up the scroll wheel and will continue to offer it on other handsets.

                                  Hey Stu,
I'm so much impressed to grab E8. But would like to have few clarifications. How is the web browsing experience? Does this model offers phonecall recording? How many messages can it store? And the maximum number of phonebook entries? GSM has given 'yes' for the phonebook memory? Does that mean practically unlimited? I couldnt make out these things from the opinions nad reviews posted here. Someone please help me to figure it out. Thank You.

andy, 25 Sep 2008Hi Stu...do u not find that tyhe fastscroll is a bit too se... moreYes, the FastScroll Wheel moves fast and to hit the right location you wanted to hit is not easy - that I agreed. I truly believe the FastScroll Wheel's main usage is to bring you to the "area" you wanted to go real fast, from then on for accuracy, you need to use the "navi-pad's" up, down, left, right button to select the item you want. I started using the wheel and navipad combinations the way I just explained and found it to be more efficient and fast. Like I said, 10GB of space will store you many songs, say you want to pick "Unbreak My Heart", wheel scrolling to "U" alphabet is faster than pressing arrow down, from then on, use the arrow up/down keys to select this particular song among the other songs starting with "U". I've even tried using the scroll wheel on my SMS, for editing long message occasionally, using the wheel to back space is a lot more faster than back key. The way I see it, it'll take you patience & time to really scroll around accurately and for those trying to solely "wheel scrolling" to hit their right menu or songs accurately, you either end up frustrated or blaming the design. Initially I did wonder why Motorola design the FastScroll Wheel together with the navi-pad if the wheel can do the job by itself - now I know, they compliment each other well. I can't imagine the number of complaints by users if Motorola only put in the wheel design without the navi-pad, they'll kill themselves.

The other example I could think of to describe the FastScroll Wheel's function is to think of it as a car, "bringing" you to your area/location faster than walking pace but when you finally reach there, you'll still need to "walk" into the building or home without the car. Hope this describes well enough.

So when we say sensitive, yes it is, so that it'll start to move fast enough to bring us to the area we want to go quickly in order for us to select what we actually want - with the navi-pad.
