This Motorola Tundra VA76r is very disappointing. The hinge on the phone is made out of the thinnest plastic and if you happen to drop it while you are actually using it, that is with the phone unfolded, well, then, SNAP. A chunk of the hinge flies out and you have an exposed flat plastic wire showing. And if you have the temerity to use it again, unfolded, and drop it a few feet again - snap goes the ribbon wire and you have "Severe physical damage due to misuse and abuse"! Too bad. Go online and look at their examples and then look at my nearly pristine 5-month old phone! So silly me, I sent it in thinking, "Oh, Motorola stands by their MIL spec rugged phone." Not a chance....I actually sent it in and...NOPE. they sent it back to me - unrepaired. All my phone call got was "I'm sorry you feel that way" automaton phone service person, after waiting 7 minutes on hold. Lovely. Be warned!

I own this phone and I think it works fine. I like the fact that it is big, heavy, and rugged. The user menu is easy to use and it gets great reception. It is not a smart phone but i don't want one anyway if I did I would have got the I-phone but I would have broken that is less than a month. Some issues that I think are either annoying or lacking are:

-ear piece volume is low, wish it was as loud as the V-365, but this is not a big deal
-You cant make calls with it when it is plugged in to the USB of your computer.
-You have to go through the menu to change ringer volume, but changing from ring to vibrate is easy.

Other than those three things I think this is a great phone.

Phone won't receive over the air software update. Randomly not receiving calls - will get a missed call message while the phone is sitting in my hand and it never rand. Phone is only 45 days old and AT&T management wants to replace it with a refurb. I told them where to put the refurb!

I've had this phone 6 mos. Its a piece of SH**. Dropped it (closed) from my belt clip onto carpet and it destroyed the inside LCD screen! SOME RUGGED PHONE-----NOT!!!!! Paid $200 for it, because "its the most rugged phone AT&T sells". Sound quality sucks, inbound and outbound and most aggravating...it does not live up to sells pitch for rugged use.

This phone has some major issues. Yes, it's durable. But that's about the only good selling point. First off, the ear piece sounds TERRIBLE. The call quality is astoundingly bad. Second, the volume on the phone only goes up to 7 and it sounds even lower than that. I do not believe anyone could use this phone in a loud environment and hear the other caller. Third, When receiving a text message, the Tundra will KEEP CHIMING unless you view the text. The ONLY way to turn the alert off is to switch the phone to silent or turn off all alerts for all text messages (which means the phone won't notify you at all when you receive them). Motorola has confirmed this. The software developers for this phone are borderline retarded. If someone sends me a text message while I'm asleep, the phone will sit there and chime for hours on end until the battery is run down or I get up to view the message. To go to sleep I have to turn the phone completely off. Fourth, the Contacts List is filled up with preset AT&T service numbers YOU CANNOT DELETE. since the screen is so small, and since the word AT&T starts with the letter "A", every time you pull up your contacts the entire screen is filled with AT&T service numbers. Unless all your friends are named Alan or Angela, they will all be placed below the AT&T numbers, which is STUPID. When I press the "Contacts" button, I want to see MY contacts, not a full list of AT&T crap. Fifth, the battery gives you about 4 hours of talk time, realistically. That's about the battery life of the iPhone which has true GPS, a faster processor, and a screen 3 times the size of the Tundra's. Why is the Tundra's battery life so abysmal? Sixth, the Tundra's processor is SLOOOOWW. The screen redraw is awful and the menu pages can sometimes be achingly slow to access. It is my opinion that Motorola crammed a subpar phone into a FANTASTIC case and then charged a premium. But don't believe the hype. Why have such an amazing, protective case on a crap phone? It doesn't add up. You'd be better of getting a $50 dollar phone with insurance than this clunker. Just my two cents.

Countries like South Korea and Japan use other 2G systems (CDMA), so 2G GSM phones do not work in these places.
