guru, 02 Oct 2008this mobile is completely useless crap-no 3G,poorest video ... moreThe phone doesn't have 3G because the ONLY acceptable platform that they have in hand is the relatively new Linux platform...which CAN'T support 3G. Their older Synergy platform was lastly used on the V9 so that 3G could be employed, but it is getting to be ancient. They are dying to have a modern platform that supports 3G (like Nokia, Samsung, SE, and LG have) but...they can't do it. This is the ONLY reason that the ZN5 does not support 3G. The rest, about fosusing on China and USA, is extremely poor excuses!

On 3G issue again? Why not we put it this way, make it simple, for those who need 3G, go for another 3G phone. There's one thing I found out after reading the comments below, if anyone looking for a 3G phone and still making unpleasant statements here (ZN5's review site) knowing the ZN5 does not have 3G, it clearly indicated that these people actually like the ZN5 and their wish is that this phone comes with 3G. If not, they would not be interested to waste their time commenting here, better spend time commenting on other makes. The 3G debate will go on, different people different views. So nobody wins, go get what you want & be happy about it. I really respect 100 Moto's reason for using 3G, personally I don't prefer 3G for it's cost but that doesn't mean either one of us is right or wrong. It's what you are looking for that makes you happy in the end, no one knows that better than you. So if Motorola designed ZN5 without 3G, I'm quite sure they have their own reason. Some of you might not like it but hey, it fits me perfectly well.

        @ 100 Moto
I'm back finally after "a break", (no internet & no business deals). I've briefly played with the ZN5 eventhough it's not launched yet (via back door) and found it really good. The 1st impression I got was the screen, the 2.4" size, the bigger icons & font size all fit me really well. The screen resolution is sharp and beautiful and yes, 100 Moto, you're right, the keypad feels really good too eventhough without haptics, it has nice feel on it when pressed. The sound quality is also good. Didn't make call to test voice quality but noticed the ear speaker opening is wider so the sound should be good instead of narrowish opening. I could be wrong about this but I found narrow speaker usually has less bass and sounds more tinny. The xenon flash reaches further than LED flash for night pictures but can't use as torch like the LEDs (turn on consistently for a minute or two). They are launching in the next few weeks and I'm considering buying it.(my E8's only about a month's old & I'm just starting to enjoy using it, got a friend interested with my E8, might sell to him). ZN5 is really a nice camera phone overall.

This cellphone has EXACTLY what I want.
Quadband for global roaming in my region (Latin America), good camera and Wi-fi.
In my country, hot-spots are easy to find, but 3g is just very limited to the capital city, and the plans are VERY expensive!
Not interested in 3g...yet. May be in some years, but not now.

Anonymous, 30 Sep 2008The US might have been late in adopting 3G but now there is... moreLosers? Far from it.

Motorola still sells phones to many regions around the world, it's just that other companies already established a foothold in these sectors of the planet. It currently focuses on USA and China because it already has a control on these markets. Rarely in USA you will see people using Nokia and even Sony Ericsson phones. Given time, they will focus on other markets whenever it feels that it already established a strong presence in these regions.

Ok, 3G is already available in the US. So? The ZN5 is only meant to be a cameraphone. Most high-end phones who have 3G are very expensive due to the addition of this feature and let's face it, not everyone uses 3G. My MOTORAZR V6 Maxx has 3G, but i rarely use it and I didn't even touch the secondary camera since practically no one in my country does video calling. And I guess 3G isn't present since the Montavista Linux OS cannot support that feature, yet.

Holy crap, at last a well spec. 5MP phone from Moto, better late than never, but good for them! Pity about the styling though, whatever happend to when they used to make the most distinctive looking mobile phones around? If it didn't say Motorola on it, it could have been made by just about anybody else...

The fact that Moto focuses on the US and China demonstrates exactly their lack of competence and foreseeability. They do not have the guts to focus on the entire planet...Nokia does! They are what we call "losers"!

You pointed out that only third world countries do not support 3G. Exactly how many people live there? Also, America doesn't support 3G much. Will 3G ruin your battery life? Yes. Do all people treat it as a necessity wherein they can never live without them? No.

And the country which doesn't even have 3G for majority of its people actually contribute much sales to various phone makers....for 2G phones, of course.

I'm not saying 3G isn't important, rather I really love to v-call my wife and my mom. Just that Moto currently is focusing 2 of its largest markets: US and PRC, both of which don't exactly have 3G.

If you're Moto, would you put 3G in Zn5 for now and jack up the price so less people will pay to get a copy?
