Bought an E540 at the weekend for both myself and the wife and we're pleased with the phone. I have one question that I'm hoping someone might be able to answer. The LED was originally flashing on mine when the phone was on but the cover was closed but that appears to have stopped. It lights up OK when a call or message comes in and my wife's is OK in all aspects. Have I changed a setting without realising it? Can't seem to find any mention of the LED in the manual apart from changing the colour for calls, SMS & MMS. Hope someone has the solution. Thanks.

i bought this phone today in car phone ware house with the impression that it has the ability to transmit (via blue tooth) phone to phone only to find after alot of phone calls that it doesn't. im really ticked off as the guy who sold it to me knew what i wanted in a phone and recommended it, im well aware that i had the chance to read the spec on the box but there was nothing stated to imply that it required a blue tooth head set. im going to bring it back tomorrow because this is nothing but a glorified camera phone which i already had and the camera isnt very good quality either for all the hype about it. so i advise anyone reading this whos thinking of buying one to realize that yes this phone is too cheap for all the so called spec!

Here's some links that may help owners of this phone.
You can buy the USB cable for £9.99 delivered from The Link. Here's a URL:
http://www.thelinkaccessories.com/view_special.php?pcode=C51-A03019-AAUK
or here for £6.95 delivered:
http://ww8.aitsafe.com/cf/add.cfm?userid=A268869&+return=www.m-99.co.uk&price=6.95&product%5B%5D=Mobile+Phone+%2F+PDA+Data+Cable+For+&product%5B%5D=NEC+E540&submit=Buy
You will need to download the NEC Mobile Suite and USB driver from their website. The URL is:
http://www.neceurope.com/mobiles/software.asp?phone=75&category=4&language=ENG&cp=5
Once you this all setup, and it's easy to do, you'll be able to download, upload everything (pictures, movies, wallpapers, ringtones and MP3).
Hope that helps
Regards

This phone has no bluetooth but they say it has, i just got mine 2 days ago from carphone warehouse for £59.99 with orange network, although it's nice cos it's a flip phone and has some other features that I like e.g Irda that works, and other things that I find interesting.

I think Bluetooth on this phone is for handsfree only and does not support Bluetooth for data transfer

Bought the e540 from Carphone Warehouse, arrived yesterday. Can't see what the problem is with the phone. All the features work and are far more than should be on a £49 phone.
Haven't tried the IR mind but not to interested anyway.
'The Link Accessories' sell the USB transfer cable for £9.99. Arrived this morning, price included delivery. It's under NEC N411i.
Menu's will always take some getting used to when coming from another brand. But it only took a lunch break to master them.
The phonebook is easily accessible and far better than my old Nokia.
Both camera and MP3 very easy to access. I prefer the operation of the Camera to my sisters Motorola.
On the whole for a measly £49 it's a great deal.

KATIE- to send things from ur phone to others via bluetooth or infrared, you first need to activate your connectivity in the connectivity setings depending on if you want to use bluetooth or infrared..then get the other person to activate theirs...select the file you want to send and select send via bluetooth/IRDA(infrared) they should then receive the file,,,if you want them to send to you they do the same!
