I recently purchased the nec n411i i-mode and have had a couple of problems with it. First of all it says in the manual and on the spec you can download polyphonic ringtones, i have now tried to do this 6 times (from 3 different websites) but still haven't received the ringtone does anyone know why this is? Do i need to do anything before i try and download one? usually they arrive in a text format and you down load it from there but i've not even received a text. I've checked on all the websites for compatibility and they have all said the phone is compatible so where is my ringtone?? Does anyone know how to fix this problem? If so please email me and let me know as the manual is useless! Thanks.

the phone does not get damaged. The phone is supposed to work with a program called NEC Mobiling Suite. The drivers are on the disk. The button that you select to install the software also has the option of selecting the drivers. The drivers allow the PC to recognise the phone when it is connected.

using NEC Mobiling Suite to transfer data.. Install the drivers before the software. don't connect the phone until the drivers are installed. in fact don't connect the phone until the software is installed.
When you connect your phone, ensure the display is on the home page and no applications are open. These can cause conflict and tell you the phone is busy

help! when i transfer files from the pc to the phone, it always gives an error message, saying that the phone cannot support current data transfer because of (1) phone not displaying standby screen, or (2) phone currently busy with other stuffs.
what's a standby screen? how would i know if my phone is busy or not??? need serious help here to transfer my files. somehow it always says "file size too big" when i tried downloading it from the net...

I just got this phone off a free imode package. A bit hesitant because I've always been a Nokia follower but my previous HP met with an 'unfortnate accident', so here I am:
So, 24 hours after meddling here's my verdict.
Bad:
1)
I can upload my mp3 but I can't seem to use them for my ringtones. This, in my humble opinion is my PET PEEVE. I feel slightly ripped off. I mean, what's the POINT of uploading MP3 if you can't USE it as a play tone?
There is one way to counter that, perhaps, and that is to convert my *mp3* into 3gp (aka vid), because they allow you to play that as a ring tone. I have yet to experiment, so hope spings eternal.
2)
Keypads are a bit more difficult to press compared to otherphones I have used before.
3) Way too little short cuts to get some things done. but that could be just a matter of me not reading the instruction manual and might be resolved with time.
4) I suspect either my formatting or images /mps/vids are too large, or the memory of this baby is not as satisfactory as I would like them to be. It's pointless enabling you to download stuff if your phone doesn't have the power to store that much in the first place, now does it?
5) The volume is way too soft even at maximum vol. I really can't handle that because i'm quite deaf, really. I won't be able to hear it at all if I was in a busy street and my phone's in my bag. So minus points for that, plus for being a consderate non-whore attention seeking phone -- but that effectively thwarts purpose of me trying to show it off. ;)
now on to the good!
1) Able to upload videos. I've converted some of my shorter vids/clips (about 1min 30 sec, and uploaded it to phone. It plays okay, but they say file size is too large for ringtone display. hmm. still, yay!
2) Imode.
Yahoo messenger rocks, as do yahoo mail.
The rest of the sites are okay, but I am guessing I will get bored of them within a week.
Although, bring in MSM and mail2web into imode and you've got yourself a subscriber to the service.
3) able to upload Mp3s. I guess, but all phones do that now, AND THEY ALLOW RINGTONE FUNCTION. *headdesk*
4) nice design. and I don't even like clamp phone models all that much.
Overall, except for the little iffy i have with mp3, all's fine by my book. Now... let's see if I can go against the system.
5)

Are you using NEC Mobiling Suite with the cable? IR data transfer can be a problem with a file as large as mp3

I've got a Nec N411i. I've reached first to download files. But since, It told me that the mobile cannot be connected. The monitor says that a N411i is connected to COM10 but transfers can't be done. Someone can tell me how to do, if any solution can be found !
Thanks
