Very bad move, not that it matters. Current situation was "Wrap s..t (MS WP SW) to nice package (Nokia HW) and label it like candy (Nokia) it remains s..t. anyway" but it is changing to "Label it real name s..t (MS), where it will nicely pack (Nokia HW) s..t SW (MS WP SW).
Microsoft mobile division will get right and fast direction of Surface tablets...
And for those owners of WP phones hoping that nothing will change and continuity will be there just think about about statements like:
"We will continue support of Symbian till 2016..." LOL
This company will take care that you will end like owners N9 Meego, N808 Symbian, WP 7.5.

As a die hard Nokia fan, when this change is done and Nokia is completely gone, I'll start using Lenovo and love it like i loved Nokia. It's so sad Nokia has to live it's loyal fans this way.

will this new branding seen on recent launched phones like 730 and 830.
Going forward will we get these devices with microsoft printed or will they continue to use nokia logo on these devices?

This is really fascinating to see, so many people pouring out their emotions like this. It is very interesting that Nokia created a huge brand that everyone fell in love with, but how they made it impossible even for die hard fans to be able to continue buying their products and were forced to sell their whole mobile phone division. People kept on begging Nokia to keep up to get modernized but Nokia just couldn't respond and we have seen the rise and fall of this mighty empire, just hope that businesses will learn from this epic tale.

Branding is very important, imagine if that fruit logo from the back of iphones and macs, or selling an iphone calling it "banana phone" and no logo, the sales worldwide would plummet instantly.

asNokia Die Hard Fan.... I quit to use smartphones... Feature Phone till I die

Yes sir I know. But they won't for long of it has Nokia on it!

People should understand this; Microsoft tablets are called Surface! Microsoft phones will be called Lumia!!

Its simple and all else you know Nokia for will be frustrated into extinction or go Microsoft.

It was never About Nokia. Never will be. Nokia died with them suspending Symbian!!

Those who are saying RIP Nokia do realise that Nokia is not part of MS for it to kill right? Nokia is making HERE maps and android launchers and communication solutions..
MS can't use the Nokia brand name only for current devices and that too only for a limited time frame i believe. Though I think it entirely owns Lumia and Asha brand names.
So well.. MS didn't really kill Nokia..

Microsoft sounds much better just like Microsoft Xbox maybe Microsoft Windows Phones should take over a duty of Xbox portable mobile gaming console of Xbox Desktop gaming consoles. For example Sony have PlayStation PSP PlayStation Vita and Microsoft still doesn't have any portable version of his Xbox gaming console.

All these years I have been using Nokia phones it is really sad that we are not going to see the Nokia brand in future "CURSE YOU MICROSOFT"

Those who are saying Microsoft will die...Plz do note most of its profits comes from PC business.

Alex, 24 Oct 2014I 'll never buy a phone with this crappy name on top. I wis... moreI agree, I think the Microsoft brand is about as exciting as Kodak or Xerox - I certainly won't even look at anything they make. Too boring.

Microsoft should not do that to eliminate the Nokia brand. I just bought my Nokia 1520 only last august 2014 its unfair in my part.i am a Nokia fan and still have this device of model E 6,E90 communicator..but had i known that this i would not buy tha Nokia 1520.They should have a 2nd brand under the name of LUMIA instead of scrapping the name Nokia. If they do this i will switch to samsung Note 4 and will do not buy any Microsoft devices..

To the commentors who comment "RIP Nokia", i think you should say "RIP Nokia mobile" instead of "RIP Nokia".
Because the Nokia company is still alive, it's just their mobile division that's gone to Microsoft.
