In Q3 2014, Android took 84% market share, while Apple and Windows Phone 12% and 3%, respectively.

As far as reaching a ceiling. SA is totally wrong. Apple has reached market saturation. Unless it is able to start targeting low end device consumers, Apple's market share will shrink to single digits. It may be a very profitable single digits, but it's single digit. It's just Math which apparently SA is incapable of understanding. Google is targeting people who have never used smartphones with the Android One devices and you can bet, it's going to cream everyone here. Even if it's got no presence in China and it doesn't sell its Android, Xiaomi will be selling Android phones.

Whom does it benefit? Us consumers. iPhone users can continue to get gouged. Not coming from my wallet.

    Maybe it's the customized versions (with large overlays) that are at fault... my experience with Cyanogenmod has been pretty much lag-free for years now (and I do deal with iOS and WP on a frequent basis, so I do have a comparison point -- with first-hand knowledge that iPhones aren't really "lag free" despite what the fanboys may say, being the iPhone 4S the live demo of the lag-hyperbole those fanboys try to make of Android).

        Instead i saw my iPad 4 running on IOS 8 got some lag there and then.

        We need to say things exactly how they are and not bashing everything we dislike or don't understand.

          Well done team android. This makes me think about the time when Android 1.6 was the current OS. Good old days ....

                        I have used android iOS and windows os.
                        IOS is the most optimized software which I have used, android phones despite of there high specifications after some time lag. But all the softwares have there own benefits and are unique.

There will be no point in staying with iOS. People where always shallow and preferred iOS just because it did not have the occasional stutter even though it was miles behind. Now Android will probably run smoother yet have a lot more features and more unified design. Can't wait for it to tip the scale at 90% just for the lulz XD

                            each have different phones models depending on my liking .
                            i'm not forced on 1 model,like an apple iphone.
                            plus I can do more stuff with my android phone :)

It's just on par with some midrange devices but... moreandroid has let you run the apps without jvm if u wanted to. but now this is being made default. the thing is the phone horse power is so much it doesnt matter what mode u run REALLY.

Pretty much any new feature on ios8 has been on android for 3-4yrs. Android has had mobile payment since 2011 and we are almost in 2015.
                                  Apple is all about hype over substance. I heard about iphone 6 every single day for 6months b4 release and i have nexus 4 from 2012 and it has all the software and hardware features for iphone 6.
                                  LIST OF FEATURES NEW ANDROID PHONES HAVE IP6 DOESNT
                                  New features on android lollipop is mostly battery centric and battery is the most important thing right now.
                                  TURBO CHARGING- driod turbo charge for 15mins to get 8hrs of use
                                  nexus 6- turbo charge for 15mins and get 6hrs of battery life
                                  nexus 6- 20% larger screen area then ip6+ == the size of the 2 phones is almost the same
                                  os built to improve battery usage-
                                  Its all about the BATTERY-BATTERY-BATTERY THESE DAYS
