a counter is easy to but on a website counting upto 1 billion
i know cause i use to make websites and that's java code
and as well
look at myspace you can steal people's coding from their page and use it so
obviously this is some hyped out marketing gimmick
cause no other company has gloated about people downloading apps
look at microsoft and the xbla they have alot of games and they are developer made
free and paid for games
and they never did what apple is doing and look how much xbox's they sold even though half of them blew up or burnt a house down
same with apple
iphone=cheap price in the start
but after time your spend alot on one thing
xbox=cheap in price but expensive to maintain
nokia n97=expensive but everything is there so you don't have to worry much
ps3= expensive but
blueray,lots of updates,open system and expandible memory to save money

i also think they made these stats up they need to show what country the app downloads came from and break them down for the consumer can see for themselves

I have now had an iphone 3GS for 1 week after using nokias for 5 years (N82 was the last one).
First the not so good: No multiple apps open, no FM radio, no web flash, home screen with only apps is not real helpful, should have widgets like N97 & other minor issues.
The good: Web browser is amazing, the app store is awesome (was looking at an N97 but ovi sblows big time), screen sensitivity is the best.
Most companies are in a MP and hardware race but dont give a rats about the software, apps etc.... thats where apple wins. SIMPLE AS THAT. As an ex nokia fan i would encourage people to try the iphone before passing comment not just basing their thoughts on the specs.

The app-store is the reason why iPhones are so successful. Unlike other manufacturers, Apple has created a successful solution to ensure that users are able to continually update their devices rather than buying new ones.

Must admit that iPhone is really a huge success.
What's cool about them is they emphasize on practical usability, in terms of UI, web browser, and application, but not so much on feature (lack of camera, etc).
Samsung, Nokia, LG are slowly recognize this need and improve their devices to be more practical too, together with advanced feature.
On the other hand, iPhone also improve their feature (camera, some other feature).
at the end of the day, we are really pampered by these phone manufacturers, so let's just enjoy it ....
