Sony Ericsson summarizes Q2 financially, loses more ground

16 July, 2009
It seems that last night was a restless one for a lot of accountants - Sony Ericsson put out their Q2 financial report. The tough year just keeps getting tougher for them it seems, the number of units...

Mustafa, 16 Jul 2009Sony brought this on themselves for releasing the same styl... moreAgree....

SE did this on themselves.

Their phones are too generic and look like one another with relatively nothing new to offer while the price is still high!

Who the heck can buy those high-priced phones, even with this bad economy?!

W995 finally is decent phone with 3.5mm headphone port =;) Too bad it took so long! Other features, like Wifi and 3G and a DECENT camera is SLOWLY added to their phones but problems still abound:

1. Too little, too late - phones are slowly coming out with features that rival phones already have

2. SE REFUSES to listen to consumers - Classic example is omitting
3.5mm port when their phones include a very good media player but SE insists owners use Fastport??!! WTF?!

3. High prices for their phones - WHY?!
- Sure, some snooty KIDS/TEENS can buy phones (what generous parents!) but the general population can not!
- People actually have Other expenses to pay such as Rent, Mortgage, Food and Clothing
- Those spoiled Kids/Teens don't even have to worry about a Job (What is that, a Job?? as many them say!)

4. Many models too similar
- Combine their phone designations into Fewer groupings

Rachel model looks SWEET though it'll cost ALOT as expected from Sony Ericsson :(

SE deserve its fate!
Too similar to General Motors!

Something tells me we wont be seeing any SE fans under this article. Any Sony fanboy that believes SE disposition is any different than Motorola is dillusional. At least Motorola currently has a better market position than Sony Ericsson.

And the Idou is not going to save SE. Neither is the Satio. Nokia's 5800 really helped them in 2009 because of aggressive pricing with a new product.

The average person cannot afford the Satio or the Rachel. It would have been nice if the Satio could have had Android and they come out with a mid level phone out of the Rachel.

Their phones are out of date on the day of their announcement let alone the release date.

SE deserves this for the it complete ignorance for our market and for providing their goodies only for Japan. And by the time they realized that they are losing here, it was too late and now, it is hard to stand up again. Look at them now, they can not produce anything good neither here nor in Japan.

I think SE has to change their fast port to standard usb and 3.5mm audio jack which are missing from most of their phones.

The conclusion of all post here is: Sony Ericsson is too late with product releases. Their products are out of date when they hit the market.

From SE k750i nothnig changed. Same design, and almost same features.

Yeah... Satio, Aino, Yari, along with Rachael is thier new effort to turn their company around. Unfortunately we won't be seeing the effects of these changes until much later.

They did the same thing motorola did with making minimilistic changes and then expecting people to go crazy because they added a feature like the shake function with w580. Look what happened to motorola for totally milking the v3. People got fed up and wanted more hence lg and apple are laughing as one gave them quality & value and apple gave them app and great styling. Maybe se have noticed to late as they've only just come out with the w995 which has the whole shabang. If they want to succeed they need to sort out their reliability and speed up the time it takes for phones to come out or otherwise keep their up and coming models secret like apple as customers get sick of waiting around for a phone to come out like the x1 only to find out its useless once they bring it out not to mention unreliable.

this is sad news. but yeah people are waiting for Satio. come on SE what's happening to you. what's with all the delays. remember, moto phones delayed the shipping of their high-end phones that's why they lost a lot of market share. think about it SE. don't delay if you want to stay in the game.

Sony Ericsson needs to bring its prices more inline with the quality and worth of the goods it is offering. Sony has milked their brand for too long but they keep hoping they can wring a little more out of it but it just isn't working. I guess it is Apples turn to ream all the suckers now and Sony with all their consumer divisions can only look on and reminisce about when they were the one.

Sony brought this on themselves for releasing the same style handset over and over again. They refused to adapt to the market in terms of style and pricing. It wasn't until just recently that they started equipping larger displays on their devices and wi-fi, 3.5mm headset jacks, and other features that are becoming standard on mid-to-high end phones. The Rachael does look amazing, and is a sign that Sony Ericsson has taken the hint. They can't go on re-making the same phones over and over again without some type of repercussions.
