I don't understand why no one wants QHD on smartphones.

I own two QHD devices and I can say they are better than 1080p.

Accept it guys, QHD is here to stay, whether you like it or not. If this was a Samsung article, you would all be praising them for using QHD...

I totally agree. It's not only marketing though, another reason the PPI is being increased this much is for virtual reality devices to mature the panel technology for them

All those saying QHD is useless clearly don't own a QHD phone. Despite what the mindless bandwagoning people say, 1440p is indeed noticeably better than 1080p. So QHD is the future. It's only a matter of time before haters eat their words and shut the hell up.

All those saying that a 5-inch 1080p display will cause it not to lag, keep in mind that the 2013 sd800 still manages to run everything on 1080p. Do you honestly think that qualcomm is not improving there chipsets? Sd810 is meant for displays higher than 1080p. I'm pretty sure that adreno 430 won't have problems with a 1440p panel. About battery life, along with software optimizations and the improvent in the chipset, any thing over 3000 mah should be more than enough. This is where the m9 or hima might fall short if the specs are to be believed.

And please don't say that 1440p is not better than 1080. It is. Just keep two devices side by side and test.

I also think that 5-inch is a bit small. It should be around 5.5 if htc manages to minimize bezels

Oh no, the display won't be 4k? I"m crushed!

Happy to see at least one company remaining sane in face of QHD+ madness. Its also nice to hear they're rumored to use more reasonable 5" screen (I have LG G2 with ultra-thin bezels and 5.2 inch screen, and while its awesome, its a little big in many occasions).

Bump the battery to 3500 mAh and make it user accessible, HTC. You might get some sales then.

If htc puts in a 1080p display..its actually great...performance will be much much more smoother than if it had a qhd display...also battery life wont take a hit...OEMs shud actually stop guving qhd resolution to phones under 6"... Above that qhd is fine..

1080p with Snapdragon 810 and 2800mAh battery means even more battery time and smoother games/graphics.

I would really prefer that HTC continue to use Full HD screen. And I think who complains about HTC's bezels actually do not use them. I used HTC One M8 for 6 months and it's bezels do not bother me. I would prefer capacitive buttons from M7, but I think it's impossible with Android L.
