Nokia claims N86 8MP doesn't need any xenon, world chuckles

31 July, 2009
It seems we aren't the only ones that feel sorry the Nokia N86 8MP lacks a xenon flash like its predecessor - the Nokia N82. So the Finnish company decided it had to do something to restore its flagship reputation...

Anonymous, 04 Aug 2009the one who says this phone suck in real they suck cause... moreled flash my be good, but when it comes to taking pics in the dark nothing beats xenon. Led just isn't meant to do that. It's not that hard to understand is it:) If u have N86 and N82 and your N86 makes better pics in the dark, then either you're blind or your N82 is defected. But on the other hand it's tough to admit that you gave a couple of 100 of € and a two year old unit makes better pics. But that's just the way it is. Sorry:)

They know they made the right move by not including xenon flash, thats why they're making this video, to try and look good , just give us the xenon flash damn it!

Anonymous, 04 Aug 2009Nokia seem to be leaving at least one important feature out... moreyeah, i own a N95 and a N82. N95 is nice but pictures in low light are really cra*. N82 has aa smaller screen, not such a good battery but it makes great shots all the time. Screen brightness is good on my unit though. Every unit has something that you don't like, but i really think there's no excuse not to put a xenon on a camera phone. The next multimedia unit from Nokia N-series better have it, otherwise users will migrate either to SE or Samsung! And i don't think Nokia wants that. Making this shameful add is a proof that they know they screwed up! Regards!

I don't need a slim girly phone, I need a meaty phone with XENON. Nokia N82 was just great. Nokia please come up with something with xenon on it next time u launch something as a camera phone, will forget N86 as a bad dream.

Nokia seem to be leaving at least one important feature out of every phone they produce. They always have in the past. The N82's poorest feature is the dim screen. It's not near the same brightness as the Nokia n95. It could also have squeezed in their an extra 0.2in to make a 2.6 inch screen.

I know the Nokia N82 has a place in Nokia enthusiasts heart but I don't think it sold at all well. I haven't ever seen anyone else here with an N82. I see n95's all the time. So maybe Nokia is concluding that Xenon flashes don't sell well?

What is the slimmest phone with a Xenon flash? I know people have moaning that Xenon causes phones to be thick but i don't think this has to be the case.

If a device costs so much as Nokia's do - you'd expect the best there is. And while a phone could never replace a camera it comes quite near. And as i've said, you don't have camera with you all the time and i think a non pro photo is better then no photo. So we will push Nokia to bring out the best it has. And for still photography, xenon is the best. It's up to Nokia to resolve power consumption. They did it with N82, why not with newer models. I think it's just ignorance and the market leader became a bit blinded by their success. But hey, we've got competition knocking on the doors. And they are not making any compromise:) Regards!

I think a LOT of people would be happy if Nokia just listened to us , and gave us an awesome cameraphone with ALL the bells and whistles , and that includes a PROPER xenon flash , N82 style.

these power leds are bright (dont led that get you down over xenon) I think nokia should just stick to xenon flash to stop the winging going on (you guys including gsmarena are not happy unless you are picking on somthing)
these power led also known as lumyleds are as close to a reall xenon flash

                            ENOUGH WINGING AND GROW UP!!!!!

nokia's n-series line up are known for powerful led cam flashes. i agree with the n86 having a xenon flash, but atleast the led cam flash is dual.

Anonymous, 02 Aug 2009cant you see that about 80 comments complain about the LED ... more"cant you see that about 80 comments complain about the LED flash and you come here to confirm that LED flash is very good !!! even 3rd generation of LED is not near of Xenon and you come here and talk about your N95."

i can see the 80 complaints, sherlock!!!have you even tried an n95? the bright led flash of it is close to a xenon flash. the people that i know would comment that the flash of the n95 is bright and blinding after taking photos of them.

i have noticed the led flash of the n95 is bigger than the dual flash of the 5800, therefore it is powerful and brighter.

in conclusion, the n86 dual led flash should be the same size as the n95's single led flash.

the cam flashes of the n-series line up are bright and powerful enough.

Nokia has to learn to stop exploiting its clients , and should try to give them what they want. After all , we are the ones paying. and I say we need xenon flash because the n86 is selling as a camera phone. So a looking forwards to c xenon in any phone the is label as a camera in the future nokia.

i get the point that a phone is a phone and so on. and might be the case for samsung, sony(ericsson).... but nokia doesnt make digicams, camcorders, etc. sooooo I WANT LED + XENON (& 3.5mm cuz satio looks good but no standard jack..)
