BlackBerry Storm 2 stars in a photoshoot, Wi-Fi confirmed

11 August, 2009
Today's forecast: cloudy with intermittent leaks of BlackBerry Storm 2 photos. This time it's the Vodafone Germany's version - the 9520. The good news is that it has Wi-Fi too, like it's Verizon-headed counterpart...

If you think that way, then what's the point of Internet connection on phones when it's inferior to PC:s? The point with phones is to have an ALL-IN-ONE device, that includes a decent camera as well. They could at least have a 5MP one... I mean we are in 2009 after all, and even the business only phone E72 has a 5MP camera.

Anonymous, 11 Aug 2009It will not be a great phone ---- Why you may ask ... here ... moreActually, miniUSB is a con, not a pro. microUSB has been the market standard since 2007. By the year 2010 all phones released in Europe should (don't have to, but still should) follow the microUSB standard. Either BlackBerry isn't planing to produce the handset in 2010 (which would be strange) or they don't want to release it at all (which would be false, as this photo is German).

They'll eventually have to make a remake, if they want to continue to sell it in Europe...

im also doing my business and i never use all the phone functions at least your job specifically need some kind of special feature.! Business people normally like easy use device, which is Blackberry ... i ve used lots of cell phones and Blackberry is far best business device... such as its got best push email service... lots of features does not mean its for business use... and peeple stop complaining about Blackberry. Blackberry is designed for mainly recieving and sending emails. not for those people who cares lots of features and dont actually use.

                  1) most of touch screen keyboard doesnt have sliders, look at iphone.
                  2) Dual sim is useful for less then 0.2% of world user.
                  3) Stylus? lol.. its a joke ? :P havent seen a stylus since HTC touch V1.0... god.. stylus are soo 2005 :P
                  4) Touch screen performance? storm 1 was already not that bad, except the click thing. So 2.0 will of course show improvement.
                  5) Mini usb charger.. all blackberry are using mini usb, unless you have a pre-2002 device.
                  etc.

Your comments are illogical, do you know what a blackberry is? ;P

Mike_MP, 11 Aug 2009I'm quite amused by all the complaints about blackberry os.... moreHey Mike... For years blackberry has been the "Business phone" and the iphone and others the "consumer" phones. This has obviously changed over the years with the introduction of the app store, not to mention plenty of other apps designed for other OS's. Blackberry OS is still in the 90's and has done nothing innovative since, mainly because there is still that idea of the "business" phone. Iphone, WM, and symbian (probably android?) are mostly, if not completely capable of being a business phone. Blackberry email client is horrendous and the interface is anything but intuitive. It is slow, convoluted, and filled with endless menus of your possible options. Read reviews comparing the 2 (or any 2 OS's) and you'll see how Blackberry needs to step it up. I'm sick of business people thinking they have no other choice than to get a blackberry simply because its a "business" phone.

I'm quite amused by all the complaints about blackberry os. there is nothing wrong with it. Ok, so its not as flashy as that on the iPhone and there is no where near the level of customisation as that on Android or WiMo, however, its better than all 3 of these for the following reasons:

1: a blackberry is primarily a business device. The OS is designed to be intuitive, which after 10 minutes of playing around with it, it does become intuitive
2: Android and WiMo, while they are both good OSs, are completely useless for business. Android is still on its 1st version and there are plenty of bugs left in it. Since the cupcake update, my G1 is horrendously slow with all the extra hobnobs and dowhats they've put into it for no good reason. WiMo is the same, it is buggy and generally unrealiable for all but the most steadfast of business users.
3: iPhone OS, while brilliant looking and simple to use, again does not suit business users. The keyboard is, on the whole, too fiddly, even in landscape mode. It doesn't offer the level of customisation that BB OS offers as almost all the features are locked down and at Apple's discretion what it will allow you to do. That and with iPhones you are locked onto a single network and i dont know about AT&T, but in the UK, o2 are an awful network to be on.

I do tech support for the UK arm of a major network provider and deal with a lot of business users, a lot of blackberrys, WiMo and android phones and i get the least complaints regarding usability with Blackberrys. Yes, Blackberrys (and in particular, the Bold) have the odd software errors, but on the whole, it is one of the most reliable smartphone OSs on the market.

                          Rant over...

Clint, 11 Aug 2009First off, to all poster's: Any BlackBerry phone is great... moreYou missed the largest category (Symbian), which includes Omnia HD, N97 and Satio to name a few. It's still the dominating OS today, but that might change in the future... but the Symbian Foundation OS looks like the refresh the OS needs right now.

I agree witht he general consensus that this phone offers nothing that you cannot get else where and in a better handset. The click screen is not universally liked, the camera is an antique at 3.2 Mps, the handset is bulky, and probably still laggy. The question is therefore why anyone would want it? The advantage RIM had was in email handling but this is assumed and surpassed by others so again why would you want a Storm 2 when the first model attacted more discontents than contents.
Only problem I see is that Omnia 2 is not likely to be carried by Vodafone due to problems with the first model, which actually begs the question: with problems with Storm 1 why are they going to carry Storm 2?

                              * Any reader from Vodafone like to respond, and tell me we are getting Omnia 2?*

With mobiles on a contract there is the greater need to get your purchase selection right first time otherwise each month you are paying a fine for your wrongful decision, and that hurts.

                                First off, to all poster's:
Any BlackBerry phone is great if you want consistent push email.
If you want a multimedia device, then maybe those posters should look to Apple.
If you want a lot of customization, then a Windows Mobile might be best.
If you want the largest potential, yet use all Google applications, then an Android phone is your best route.
If you want more social connections and contact management yet don't have any 'business' outlook, etc, then a Palm Pre might be your choice.
Personally, I'm leaning towards a bit of everything with the Palm Pre. Overall this BBerry looks like a step up from the previous one (Storm v1), yet it still really only fits as a good choice if needing push email and limited use apps/browser. Maybe the Storm 3 will be a better competitor for the full market, rather than just the business sector.
