I love it how all the iPhone haters suddenly come out of the woodwork. The iPhone is a great phone.. Better allrounder than anything else of the Market.. And I sell phones for a living. There is nothing that matches it's ease of use and versitility. It is easily deserving of the award ahead of the old fassioned and outdated windows mobile system.. With their terrible touchscreens.. Give me reasons as to why they are best for business? What do they do the iPhone doesn't for business use? I'm even typing this on an iPhone now!

I think that a smartphone ought to handle multitasking with third-party programs just as any pc, EISA just lost credibility.

Apple's iphone will never dominate the market due to Apple's greed and coveting of their software. The technology they use is hardly innovative, as they've been sued for patent infrigement a few times now. It's taken them two years to finally be able to label it as a smartphone and looking at the competition I'd bet a considerable sum that the iphone will be old hat within the next year, 3GS v2 or no.
Can the iphone open several programs at once and allow me to flip between them quickly whilst listening to music and making calls?

Smartphone award : Nokia N97 (not iphone)

Agreed, it can't multitask. Basic multitasking like listening to music while browsing gallery, and songs resuming from where they stoped during a call are available in even cheapest of fones.
Great fone though. Zippiest UI, Superb browser, and Best touch response.

I agree...
But I think Sony Ericsson Satio will be the best camera phone and it's better than OMNIA HD but it's not available in the market till now.
Also Sony Ericsson Reachel X3 will be the best in Business and it'a away better than Nokia E75.
Sony Ericsson phones are the best but they are toooo... late.
Sorry for may bad English,

i never trust those award giveaways for mobiles - cuz everytime i see one they give it away to a phone that is out of winning area . last time they gave away the award for the well balanced option phone to s.e. w910 which is no where near well balanced options , thats in last mobile world congress event . many have refused it . and this time the i phone . these are all marketing gimmiks . they want to sell the phone as much as they want to . dont fall for tricks .
for eg - take a look at some of the pc video games - they get so many awards by some magazines and companies months before they get released to the gamers .

srq, 17 Aug 2009How can iPhone win the European Smartphone award, without t... moreI like how I can start a photo slideshow on my iPhone while music plays via iTunes, it interrupts when a message comes in then resume, WOW IT'S MULTITASKING.
I like surfing the net while music plays and when a call comes in I can answer it, resume surfing the net as I talk and then the music picks up where it left off when I end the call... MULTITASKING.
The iPhone won and deservedly so, build a bridge, get over it.
There's a new kid on the block and they blew the smartphone market wide open in a couple of years, I guess there are some who cling to the tired old ideas of cramming a device so full of features that it becomes virtually unusable.
Now instead of mouthing off with the same rubbish we've heard for the last few years maybe you should take a look at what people are doing with iPhone's, particularly developers with their Apps.
