Well it's an Imaging and Sound Association, not a Calling, Multitasking and Messaging association, what do you expect? :-) iPhone looks good and sounds good, that's it.

hehe, 17 Aug 2009it should've got the best dumbphone award or something.. n... more6700CS. Now that is the definition of a smartphone. But like I said, It can't win because it isn't beautiful enough.

For example, you've just started school, and stripes are in. Stripes are in, simple as that. But then a cute girl comes along with a sassy clique comes along and says stripes are ugly and dumb. How many people would ditch stripes to fit in?

While a hilariously stupid metaphor, I know, it can easily be applied to this situation. For all intents and purposes, it won the award. Good for them. But, I'm sure you know what the definition of a smartphone is so...

[deleted post]Oh please stop your whining about multitasking. That's a nice feature, but with the iphone's interface, it's not really necessary. And yes, the iphone can play music and stops the music when you get a call and resumes playing the music right after you hang up. Also, the iphone can switch apps faster than phones with multi tasking capabilities.

        reply:
stop da music while receivin callS? wad phone duzn do dat? I doubt wheder u kno what multi tasking even is...

[deleted post]No, i'm sorry but i can't. After you close a app it takes forever to start another app after u press the icon, same goes for settings, the screen goes white and waits for good 5 seconds.

As a smart phone i can't even compare my Iphone to my brothers HTC HD in terms of power and multi processing, having music, Microsoft office, web browsing and games on at the same time, and zoom out so the all of running apps become small windows on the screen that you flip through like a album just like Windows Vista, and any one u press goes full screen with others running in the backbround and the zoom out again.

I love my iPhone but giving it the smartphone award is just nonsense, im sorry, im not a traitor, just saying my first hand experience and comaparison.

Anonymous, 17 Aug 2009And what a bizarre time of the year for phone awards, it's ... moreYou sold your N97 for an iPhone?

Seriously good job Apple, I didn't expect this to happen but good for them. It is agreeable to everyone that the iPhone's UI is sleek and smooth. That's why it wins the hearts of all (that's why I love mine). But lets get down to business here.

The iPhone won for it's looks. Now don't call me traitor and send me death threats, Apple lovers. No one WILL ever be able to match a UI based on OSX ever. But this award in my eyes is nothing more than a ringer. The iPhone wins because it gives you the simplest ways to do the easiest things. For example, if you wanna shoot video, you hit the camera button, a nice little transition to the camera App (and you get the sub-par 2.5 megapixel camera, which I am NOT satisfied with) and with simple buttons, you can record video. You can also go straight to video editing and edit the video, and then from a simple button, upload the video to Youtube. The iPhone wins simply because it takes 1.5 seconds faster to do the aforementioned than in another smartphones. The iPhone wins because it's beautiful.

Which, isn't the definition of a smartphone. A smartphone should have a tremendously great camera, excellent ability to record video, great business applications, A well designed web browser, cool multitasking features, and very fun games to play. And that's when you guys say "duh genius, the iPhone already has that. do some research". No. The iPhone does do some of those things, but not all. First off we can strike off the camera. Business applications. Oh please don't mention Docs2Go because I am just NOT trying to hear that. Multitasking is simple when it comes to the iPhone, because you can only multitask simple applications. Switching between the Apps take longer on the iPhone (you know the deal, press the button in the middle, go back to the application icon and then hit the button again, Whereas in the N97, as well as any S60 device, you can hold a button, and scroll to the listed running applications, and resume said application. As well as the Palm Pre, where all you have to do is "flick" your hand to change an application). And lastly, Web browsing. Yes it has tabbed browsing, but so does many others. Look up the Palm Pre for their tabbed browsing features.

iPhone...just...completely knocks it out of the park when it comes to simplictity, fun games to play, a great use of the touchscreen, and nice use of Flash in it's web browser. However, it doesn't deserve the title for this ultimate reason, CPU power. That is the penultimate power that makes a smartphone a smartphone. Yes it has 600Mhz, but how much is spent on just trying to keep the OS looking good? I don't think it has reached it's potential yet.

But hey, the iPhone won anyways. The simple fact is: if you wanna revolutionize a genre (or the appearance of a genre), then beauty, is definitely not skin deep. Awesome and inspiring phones like the N97 and the HTC touch pro will never win because they are not as beautiful as the iPhone. Simply put, the smartphone genre for Europe is revolutionized. It doesn't matter if you can multitask or take excellent pictures with 5MP cameras and such, because if you look sexy, there is no competition. So congrats to Apple and the iPhone, and may exterior beauty reign over interior genius.

Don't you love people bagging the iPhone on spsecs when they have never uses it.
The reason it won is the apps and the userbility.

The web is the best bar none
the app store is the best bar none
iPod is the best bar none
screen sensitivity is the best bar none

90% of people use these features 90% of the time
              I upgraded from a n82 about 2 months ago.

Having said that iPhone could really dominate with better camera multi tasking radio web flash

Iphone is a very good multimedia phone, i have the 3G 16 Gb white version, but a Smartphone award? How wierd. Appstore is full of wannabe smartphone apps made by nine year olds, for nine year olds

Iphone should have been the best allround media device. As for smartphones, i'm sorry to say that Windows Mobile kicks the living daylights out of the iPhone, specially HTC windows devices.

My brother has the HTC HD and he can virtually make any existing pc software into a proper windows mobile version, it's simply amazing.

Well done iPhone! I've been an iPhone user since day one. It's the best touchscreen phone, the response is just amazing!

And don't tell me about Windoze Mobile phones, arrgghh it takes ages for the touchscreen to respond. It's fast when it's new, but once it's loaded OMG it's crawling...

I say good on you iPhone Team! You guys deserve this award. Cheers!

And what a bizarre time of the year for phone awards, it's like the EISA have been paid off by the major Manufacturers just as some of the latest devices are released.

I smell a sell out here.

You mean with its fantastic 12mp cam, HD video recording capabilities, bluetooth compatibility with every device... oh, I forgot... iphone lacks all of that. it should've got the best dumbphone award or something..
now seriously, the 8-year-old nokia 7650 is a better smartphone, let alone n-series, e-series and other s60 phones, se feature phones (they multitask) and most recent samsungs and lgs..

and by the way, many s40 phones can play music in the background (especially xm phones), can recieve calls and messages while doing something and they have plenty of 3rd party apps so they are basically smartphones :p

and yet they consider the upgrades "big".. now what about nokia introducing an upgrade to the 6700c (s40 smartphone ;) with a 5mp af snapper that thrashes the iphone's pathetic camera) maybe 6700cs with arm11 600Mhz processor, 3d graphics acceleration chip, and 256mb of ram, to ensure the os is twice or triple as fast or something to further smoothen the user experience.. this is sad

now unless pineapple comes out with some sort of advanced multitasking, fit at least a decent 5mp camera with a flash (lighters have leds :s) and implement other missing basic phone features plus dumping the stupid itunes thingy, they will still be out of favour as these small perks are deal breakers for many

i think these awards come too early in the year, so many great phones miss them
still, i agree with the e75 being the best bussiness phone but somewhat unsure about music and cameraphone awards because competetion isnt that present
as for the best smartphone, i8910hd and n97 are good candidates
