oho, 24 Aug 2009I just said, this is the sales in UK, then what would they ... moreReally depends when and where you observe....subway? The almighty brand's CS center?

In HK, the ratio of N97 to iphone is probably 1:10, 5800 is a bit better at around 1:5

The almighty brand still doesn't seem to know how to make slim touchscreen phones to capture the ladies market, as my wife and my manager (all ladies) use iphone. They care little less on the hard specs on N97. They want something "stylish" while being "easy to use".

Don't see much success from the almighty brand in that area...though I never doubt the success of the almighty brand, who years ago paid heavy subsidies to network service providers to offer $0 handsets to a large group of mid-low end customers.

Brenda, 24 Aug 2009Andrew. How many smartphones has Apple released in 3 years... moreMaybe read my previous post couple of times! It's not that difficult to understand Nokia's strategy. And don't make smart of you. Nokia is leader - that's a fact.
And don't mention an Apple company, it's biggest evidence of american stupidity. Apple strategy is another typical business trick, which most important part is dumb consumers. Apple is successful only in USA - why so? Answer is simple. Sorry - the truth is difficult to accept ...

From what I see here, people that hold N97 & 5800XM are much more then people with iPhone.

Maemo's browser has much more speed in opening pages, and can display every element, including full flash support.

How... morewhere i live Nokia has this Recycle Kiosks for u to put used phones that u cant even sell as second hand. For every phone u put in, nokia gives u a slip with some code to register in the internet. There u are given a tree to rename in a replanting effort.

Nokia does this coz its a European country. I now, it soun ds a bit ghey, but then.....

What does apple has? U know, with the iphone's battery lasting around 1 year plus, the fact that a new model comes out every year, and the sheer millions of iphones out in the population.

            u tell me.

              Whats up with this Brenda?

i find it very puzzling that she REALLY, REALLY thinks that GPS started only recently and that she has a N95(claimed) and she thinks it does not have GPS function.

And someone please try explain to her about GPS does not need data to function. Explain to her Nokia 5800XM(not the 5800 NAVigator) has GPS functions coz im using it with Garmin Mobile XT without a cent of data used.

Sometimes I do wonder what these 'evangelists' try to achieve on this board. Trolls? Or just ignorant fools?

Brenda, 24 Aug 2009Andrew. How many smartphones has Apple released in 3 years... moreI agree. Nokia does release a slew of smartphones. However they try to appeal to everyone. Such is the case for LG, Samsung, Moto and SE. The only difference between them and Apple is the difference in strategy. Apple believes in linear consistency only, and the others don't. It's not a bad thing or a good thing, it's different. Apple believes that updating 1 phone and adding new features to it will make people stick with that phone and appreciate it's updates. Nokia and the others believe in non-linear consistency, how different phones with different features can appeal to, well, different people. Like for example, S40 and S60. These mid-range S40 phones can appeal to people who don't have all their eggs in one basket, but still want something that can make them happy. S60 is high-end, appealing to people who like elegance and technology.

Nokia does do some forms of linear consistency, e.g. the Navigator Series, the 5300-5730 Xpressmusic Series, and the 2nd Gen Classic Series. The 5800NE is another example, although it doesn't seem that way to most. If Nokia could dip more into this way (and totally ditch S40 >

Only a million people use OVI mail, the iPhone is the number one mobile browser on earth, the iPhone is the number one camera on Flickr because almost everyone who has one uses the smartphone features.

Unlike the Nokia sheep who buy a phone to show off the functions then never use them.

If it means that a company produces good phones, then you're wrong. Cause dominating means both, good phone that sells well, so only 2 companies from what you listed do that, Apple & HTC, Palm hasn't yet got to be described as 'dominating' and BB is only business phones. If you are not full of hatred towards NOKIA, you'd have know that NOKIA is the dominating company, no arguing about that, in all fields, low-range, mid-range & smartphones, look at the N97 sales, not all NOKIA phones, just N97, you'd realise it outsold almost every phone out there, and NOKIA have more than a smartphone, look at all N-series and E-series phones. NOKIA is then followed by Apple then Samsung then HTC.

I think you need to buy a new dictionary, your one is getting old. Look in it for the meaning of 'dominating'!!

As many as the releases. Iphone sucks in my opinion, I want something different, screen sucks, camera sucks, touchscreen is mdiocre and so on. I think Nokia and others no best when they release a lot of models for a lot of people to decide, why get a mediocre iphone when you can get a phone which is closer to what you want (maybe you want a better camera, a better touchscren or better music/video player). For the average user, all of them also sell "iphone" average phones. In my view, 1 thing is great about iphone and that is marketing and PR, this may work for the most people, but not for me. And I do not think I am the only one different.
