How many hardware upgrades has the iphone received in three years? Just 3. That is far from the case of Nokia. How many smartphones has Nokia released in a year? Too many. That is not a bad thing either. The bad thing is, Nokia not releasing all of those smartphones at the same time. Don't you think it would be better for consumers if all those similar phones are released at the same time? Same goes with Samsung.

The design of 5800 navigation is nice, metal outline (is it?) is preferred over plastic one (5800 XM).

I was just thinking what if i buy 5800 XM and replace the chasis with a new bought original chasis of 5800 navigation? Can it be done?

Actually lots company do release similar phone with minor updates, just recently Nokia is too obvious like no changes on hardware enhancement.

Apple iPhone is stepping on same situation as well. 1st generation till 3rd generation especially 2nd and 3rd is too minor updates.

Blackberry also, their Storm and Storm 2 (coming soon) similar (but at least from latest video, Storm 2 is having a better and success touch technology) also.

Samsung also, they implement all touchwiz on all recent phone and it made not much different but at least Samsung do major improvement in hardware spec.

LG start repeating their S-Class also.

SE lastly change by announcing better spec and different phone but got sound no thing. Too long it is on pending.

No comment on Motorola, it is a dead company for me.

[deleted post]This could actually be a good forum for phone enthusiasts to exchange ideas. But how could you do that when if you post a decent comment, you get attacked right away by blind Nokia fans just because they know that you are an iphone user, not even considering if you make any sense or not.

I was simply asking why Nokia keeps releasing similar phones with only a few months gap, when it would be more beneficial to consumers if they would release all of them at the same time. But then I get replies from Nokia fans attacking me when I was merely asking a question.

[deleted post]And what's being an American got to do with this? LOL.

Did I say that the 5530 is a replacement of whichever phone? I did not. If you say it's a strategy. Then I say that Nokia's strategy is a poor one and it's not friendly to consumers. Nokia CAN release the N97, 5800, 5530 and 5800 all at the same time. If they did, it would've been beneficial to consumers to decide which phone is the one for them, instead, Nokia released these phones sporadically. It gives me the impression that Nokia is playing marketing tricks to their consumers.

Nokia is leading the pack on LOW END to MID RANGE PHONES. The smartphone category is dominated by Apple, Blackberry, Palm, and HTC (android).

Stupid Nokia! They just could have add it in firmware updates!

Anonymous, 23 Aug 2009Brenda, -GPS does not necessarily needs a data plan. i ... more"-a company exists to get profits, and Nokia has got a huge profit from the 5800XM. However, the 5800XM targets the younger, non-business centric age group. So they release another version with GPS-specific improvements and more serious look. Its choice of colours indicate this. Nokia has many models, and for each model they target a specific user group."

"-I dont understand why someone should be sad when they already bought the 5800XM earlier. By the time this comes out, surely it would be more expensive than a 5800XM package. And if they dont want it an even cheaper alternative is 5530."

So why can't the almighty brand simply release the "all-in-one" phone? Or better yet, why the same marketing strategy doesn't seem to apply to its N-series? Aren't N-series phones suppose to be "all-in-one"?

If the almighty brand is so successful to fulfill the needs of each "niche" market, where is its top-of-the-line flip phone after N76?

And your last paragraph still doesn't explain why the original owners of 5800 can't get the GPS on the navigator edition from DAY 1? Why they need to sell their old 5800 and pay more for the new 5800 N or 5530? Any damage to the environment by doing so?

Brenda, 23 Aug 2009There are countries that do not support GPS. Are you telli... more"why they are releasing these similar phones with only a few months gap. Why can't they release them all at once so people can have better choices at the same time."

First of all, I ain't any almighty brand's fan, and never will become one...,

My speculation is, the almighty brand's strategies are:

                      - worry that it would have nothing "new" every month to be bragged about by the press....it keeps relasing dozens of similr models every months so various media can alway report something "new" from the company. (I rather admiire the company which releases only ONE new phone every year, and the press...and even customers, would automatically report news about this phone....)

                      - the company really hates the environment, as by constantly releasing so called "new" models, more boxes, manuals, etc...are being disposed. The company "creates" the environment of "keep getting the new model" for the consumers....so to wish the consumers would throw away their so called old (but still works?) phones because a so called "new model" is out. Not to mention I heard rumors some phone companies (and wouldn't it be obvious the almighty brand being one of them) would simply throw away some old models (but 100% new) phones just so they can release the so called "new" models and keep the prices up...and imagine the company with the most number of models being released every month / year...

                      - the company wants to test the memory of its staff and followers as to how much they can remember how many phones have been released and what are the (MINOR?) differences among them.

Andrew Tan, 23 Aug 2009My main point is from iPhone3G to iPhone3Gs is a minor upgr... moreYou say that a faster processor and higher RAM, improved touch fluidity, water/smudge/fingerprint resistant display, 3.15mp camera w/ video recording are minor improvements? LOL

And as I have said, the iphone's firmware updates are available to all iphones, not just the new one, which dramatically narrows down the differences.

Unlike Nokia, Apple does not release another iphone after a few months, and remove some features, then put in a new feature not found on the prior one release two months ago, and improves this one's gps feature, but giving less gps features on another, then gives this one a better map but not so good music player, and gives the other one a better music player but removes wifi, gives a higher megapixel on this one without flash, and gives the other less megapixels but with LED, LOL. Now that is just crazy, LOL.

Anonymous, 23 Aug 2009Did you buy it in the first month it was released? Here ... moreI'm really getting the impression that what Nokia fans are looking at are just features. They don't care about quality, ease, practicality, or even if they need or will be using those features or not. Just as long as it has a long, impressive spec sheet, it's the most awesome phone there is for them, lol. I've seen so many Nokia smartphone owners who do not have data plans. I don't get it at all. But for them, that's alright. It has an impressive spec sheet, lol. Like my friend who brags his phone with a front camera. Not once have I ever seen him use it, lol. But it's a great and better phone because it has a front camera, lol. Oh people.

It is not the GPS feature or whatever feature this phone has that I am critiquing. It's on their release dates. I don't care if it has GPS or not. That is not what I am questioning. It's their phone release strategy that I am questioning. Read my very first comment and try to understand. I am using very basic english words so that you would understand. Here's my question, and please try to understand.

Why does Nokia release similar phones within a few months gap when they could release all of these similar phones at the same time so people could have better choices?

Do you understand that question? Again, it's not the features. It's the release dates of similar phones. Not the GPS features. Key words "RELEASE DATES". Not GPS or any features. Do you still not understand? LOL

If you believe that Nokia has the GPS technology a long time ago, how come they're only coming up with this navigation phone? I had the N95 and I don't remember ever using it.

And again, I am not questioning Nokia's different market for their different phones. I am questioning why they are releasing these similar phones with only a few months gap. Why can't they release them all at once so people can have better choices at the same time.

That paragraph you quoted me was for HD playback. So I don't know what's the connection of that for this post.
