I don't care of benchmark .I care is overall efficiency of specs and price. Some little bit faster or slightly slower, some have display better but lower sound , some have better speed but can carry small loads . Some have camera good but low battery backup. Actually $200 android phones are just
Few milliseconds slower than $1000 iphone but has better pixels and contrast ratios in some cases. Even galaxy core is slightly different than galaxy s4 in terms of speed . So if you are reach enough to buy expensive phone you can get five percent better phone than you can get in half price . Or some cheaper phones are much better than expensive phone .

iPhone is King, 21 Jan 2015How can iPhone 6 be midrange... when its benchmark performa... moreUh no. The iphone 6/6+ benchmarks only beat the note 4's in single core performance, which comprises of only the most basic tasks. The multi-core performance of the note 4 (especially the exynos version) destroys the iphones. And that's really what matters for heavy users and productivity enthusiasts since, well, we want our smartphones to be able to handle all kinds of tasks and not just sit like a grossly expensive pretty toy.

These charts seem like the splendour of heaven in my eyes. The crap-camera, mediocre-battery, heavily-bezeled HTC is nowhere to be seen.

Seems only western audiences even care for this company (and even them not by much apparently). Most people can see through the bling (apart from Apple fans, but they're a category of their own) and prefer better phones over "unibodies" flash w/t substance.

The problem with samsung is that they are spewing way too many models a year. Each model requires software and hardware research and development resources (time, engineers and money especially). They have to set fabrication/manufacturing of each model. They have to test that. Then train technician and support people. And develop OS, app updates, etc. So no wonder samsung no longer has the time for better designs. Hehe

Manufacturing a phone is not as easy as putting lego blocks together people. And that is why samsung is losing money, they are spending way more.

How can iPhone 6 be midrange... when its benchmark performance smashed flagships like Note 4 nowadays? Where the just released s810 is simply on par with A8 benchmarks?

Even iPhone 5S / iPad Air 1gen smashed Note 4 benchmarks.

Don't say its more multitask or more features. Because if that is true, it should have done those things without lag, as your paper specs shows its twice the ram twice the cores and twice the ghz.

It seems reading paper specs is not accurate info at all!

Android, 20 Jan 2015Anyone who purchased an iPhone6 either doesn't know or does... moreiPhone may sound mid-range but performs high-end, because pure numbers have no effect on real-life performance. Something you clearly don't understand.

Whilst Samsung is competing with Xiaomi, Lenovo and Huawei, iPhone won't be affected as dramatically, since it's not competing in that space at all.

AnonD-275729, 21 Jan 2015Indeed. AT least some people in here some brains. The nu... moreIt's not all about device volumes either, especially when margins are suffering.

This topic is much more complex than people make it.

Every product line and each device requires someone to manage and implement it. There are huge overheads associated with the entire product management.

If Samsung reduced its production and shipped just as many devices, of fewer flavours, they may actually save their profits from dipping further.

Saturating a market only works to a certain extent, and the brand as a whole may have suffered damage due to this strategy.

Imagine how many Samsung devices you see everywhere in Asia, in stores, that are waiting to be sold.

How many Duos phones can you sell? And Samsung isn't the cheapest. With increasing competition out of China, they will only suffer more.

rohitechnik, 20 Jan 2015I had no idea lenovo was 3rd... What are some good phones b... moreLenovo mostly sells in China and associated countries. This is a supposedly large market which is supposed to expand even more. As more Chinese people shift from poverty into middle-class and low-income by working in factories instead of farm-labor and thus become potential customers for smartphones. On the other end of the market a few more Chinese have become very wealthy and are potential customers for high-priced luxury devices. So I don't think they really care about westerners (anymore).

Especially since the west has become poorer and poorer when industrial labor shifted to China.

Besides for the western world they have acquired Motorola.

AnonD-1825, 20 Jan 2015Samsung mobile is slowly dying, their best days are in pass... more"Growing" very fast at what? Yes speccing up phones while driving RRPs down. While I'm a potential customer who can't complain about paying less, on the Android front Chinese OEMs' absolute AOSP/GPL compliance and contribution = ZERO. Because 99% of them are a lot more worse than how Samsung close down their Exynos sources. So yeah you might be getting a nice piece of kit at a nice price just don't come back and holler about not getting updates on time (if at all in some cases) let alone decent custom ROMs.

The numbers given here say that Samsung sold:

                                      301.24 million devices in 2013
                                      326.73 million devices in 2014

                                      will sell about

                                      343.21 million devices.

This literally means that Samsung sells MORE phones each year no matter what their position on the global market is.

People shouldn't take these figures so seriously. It doesn't matter how much percent of a market you have. It is more important how much actual devices you sell and how much your actual profit is on each device.

From what I see here is that despite a slight shift in market positions there's no reason for Samsung be such a drama-queen and fire half their management staff or employees. They still sold more devices in 2014 than in 2013.
