J2ME User, 24 Apr 2015I wonder how many Nokia fans there is. That just a year ba... moreas a Nokia fan that followed the to WP I can say I won't be going back to Nokia if they're only going to make Android phones. I might have gone to WP because of Nokia, but I've stayed there because I prefer it to Android and Nokia's infamous hardware quality won't be enough to make me change my mind.

Anonymous, 24 Apr 2015Patents sold to Microsoft.Actually MS only bought design patents from Nokia, some 8,500 of them. They licensed the majority of Nokia's relevant patents (some 35,000) in a 10 year deal.

The news of coming back will sound pleasant to the ears of fans. Android is the best choice which Nokia underestimated previously and considered Microsoft better that later brought disaster. But i am afraid to learn than Nokia is going to commit another mistake by shifting their R&D from Finland to China......Phones that were so far designed in China at Nokia R&D China looked disgusting and ugly same also goes for Indian R&D......Great phones that once made Nokia the best in the segment were designed in Finland and manufactured in Finland and Hungary ....not in other places

Nokia made phones with the best build quality i have seen and were solid phones. They went WP cause at the time Android was new and they thought WP will be the future and Android will die.

I love Nokia phones and i love Android. I jumped ship for Android and always hoped for a Nokia running Android. After 10 years Nokia can make their own and i am sure if Android is still popular then proper Nokias can be expected.

Atleast Nokia used to make some awesome designed phones and i am sure we will get to see that again.

symbian used to hang a lot...that was enough for other OS to make an entry ..now the need for new OS is not needed because we have reached a plateau phase in OS development of mobile. .
look how windows 8 got failure..the price of windows 7 was higher than windows 8 still people were buying that...

This is really bad news for all the symbian fans out there in the world waiting for Nokia to make another symbian phone to take over the world leadership, RIP forever symbian, had Nokia listened to the voice of the people N jumped into making android phones earlier , it still would have been the world leader it used to be once, N protected it's business from selling off to Microsoft, all the best Nokia, we still love u.

                              Samsung who?

DarkStar, 24 Apr 2015Ahh, the old "blame Elop" bullshit. Nokia's phon... moreYup. It was his decision to choose WP that brought down Nokia. He declared symbian dead before he announced any windows phone. He declared meego dead before any windows phone materialized. What kind of decision is that? Imagine throwing away all your current product before the next gen product even coming out of factory. Imagine throwing away the galaxy S6 or iphone 6 before galaxy S7 or iphone 7 materialized. Elop is the the flop. Nokia, with all their inside fighting and all, could have survived either way with Symbian Belle or Meego Harmattan as both are outstanding OS of its time. Native file explorer, landscape homescreen, tens of apps multitasking on just a SINGLE CORE, glance screen, the ability to install apps directly into SD card, the best worldwide offline map with voice navigation, Siri? They had vlingo long ago, Google Now? Nokia situations has it in beta long ago, Augmented Reality, so on and so forth. Things that android and ios fans could only wish for in the next iteration of android/ios.

DarkStar, 24 Apr 2015Ahh, the old "blame Elop" bullshit. Nokia's phon... moreYou sir have no idea what you're talking about. Elop killed Symbian (his illustrious memo), Elop killed Harmattan (yet allowed one device, N9, to get manufactured), Elop plugged the plug on Meltemi and Elop was the sole person to enforce Windows Phone as the "smartphone" OS for future Nokia's. In my book, HE and HE alone is to blame for Nokia's demise!

                                        The original plan was:

                                        - Symbian to be replaced with Meego, as primary advanced smartphone OS

                                        - Symbian delegated to lower-end phones and replace S40.

                                        - phase out featurephones, since demand was falling for featurephones.

That was a good plan and they should have stayed with it! Sure it took quite long for that N9 to come to market. But was Intel's fault. Intel halfway pulled the plug on their co-operation with Nokia! So Nokia had to finish Meego all by itself which TAKES TIME! Eventually WHEN that N9 came to market, everybody loved it! Even GSMArena loved that device.

                                        Some quotes from GSMArene:
                                        - "Beautiful. Simple. Brilliant."
                                        - "we found it to be a revelation: gorgeous design and the divine simplicity of the all-screen experience."
                                        - "With Nokia giving up on MeeGo and a price tag that confines the N9 to a premium niche, it will be next to impossible for the OS to grow a substantial user base."

The press loved it and the people loved it. But Elop priced it soo high that nobody could afford it (and so he could convince fellow shareholders to drop Meego). He did the exact same thing with the last Symbian device (808Pureview). Its price was artificially set so high that almost nobody could afford it. Yet, the few whom DID buy both the N9 and 808PV were loved themto the very end. Thus there was absolutely no reason why Harmattan couldn't be the 3rd "ecosystem" that Windows Phone still ISN'T!

In fact read the comments on: http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/features/item/20052_Tough_questions.php
