Clearly Nokia didn't see their future could exist without going to Android route. I am just thinking what's the next big OS going to be? I mean come on, we all know that Android's time will be over, it will take a little bit more time but it will be game over nevertheless. Just like Symbian, who could have thought any better OS will come in future back at that time?

AnonD-295604, 24 Apr 2015Welcome back NOKIA !!!!! Take back your CROWN !!!!! "...the Nokia's R&D center will permanently relocate to Sichuan, China..."

This isn't Nokia. This is yet another insignificant clueless faceless chinese crapfab using Nokia's logos and hiding behind Nokia's skirt.

True Nokia's are developped in Finland and made in Europe (Hungary/Finland). All the Nokia's that came out from China were crap (lots of DOA, screen problems, battery problems etc...). As an example: all of the Nokia 701's that I've had worked right out the box (Made in Hungary) while the first Nokia 808Pureview (Made in China) I got was DOA.

Another example. The only Samsung that I bought myself was an SGS4 (it was DOA) and after a lot of arguing with the store (they even send it in for repair and came back unrepaired... those buggers didn't even bother to reset the phone as it came back with some apps that I had left behind), I eventually got a exchange to an SGS5.

So sorry but I have absolutely NO confidence in all these gadgets that are "Made in China". There's too much DOA, too less QC and the after-sale repair companies (whom can't seem to fix one thing without breaking something else) don't help either!

I'll hold back and wait. But I haven't much confidence in a full come back.

AnonD-385420, 24 Apr 2015People only left Nokia after Mr Elop the so-called Chairman... moreAhh, the old "blame Elop" bullshit. Nokia's phone business was screwed long before Elop joined them; he was basically a last ditch attempt to save the phone division, but the damage had already been done.

The demise of Nokia's phone division is down to in fighting between the Symbian and MeeGo teams, a few years before Elop arrived. Things got really messy in Nokia during that time and unfortunately for the company (not to mention those of us who loved Nokia) the Symbian team won, killing MeeGo and with it Nokia's chance of having its own OS that was actually designed for touch screens.

By the time Elop came along Nokia's phone division was already pretty much finished, but they still had a choice of either being just another player in the Android market (where next to nobody was actually making money at the time) or being the biggest fish in the WP world and having a say in the development of the OS. Elop's experience with MS would certainly have helped sway that decision, but I would expect the Nokia board had already considered that when they put him in charge.

You can argue they'd have been better off going down the Android route, but I think either way they would have ended up selling the phone business and MS paid considerably more it than anyone else would have as they couldn't have it going to a competitor not making Windows Phones as that would have finished WP off.

in that time Android within 3 years had boomed. Now look at it!

AnonD-4697, 24 Apr 2015Nokia is far from that, even the more loyalist users change... moreNot true, I know many loyal Nokia fans that did follow them to Windows Phone, mainly due to the amazing 1020. And as much as I like Nokia, I love the Windows Phone OS a lot more than I do Android so I guess I won't be returning to my favourite phone manufacturer.

Not that I think they'll ever be able to produce a stellar phone again; they had some of the best people in the business working for them when they ruled, but they've all left now and there's simply no way Nokia can put together a team as good as what they had before.
