Does anyone have any insight as to whether or not the cost of the actual handset will be reduced on either network?

One difference between the tariffs is that on o2 you can use your free texts as mms and to text from abroad also, greater flexibilty.

One big difference with Orange compared to O2 on the iphone.
        Magic numbers.
I have so far built up 7 of them. So, 7 Orange numbers are free for me to call. I get another in a couple of months time. Easy.

"Apple set the prices tarrifs for the iphone not the networks, they set it for O2 and the set it for the rest of the networks, hence the non competetive prices."

Now are these plans exclusive to iPhones or are they available with a range of handsets?

In Australia iPhone's are available on exactly the same plans as other phones.

                          e.g iPhone 16GB 3GS free on a $A69 plan, Nokia N97 free on a $A79 plan.

well looks like im never going to get an iphone looking at orange and o2 rip off monthly price plans, also 343 for pay and go and you have to top up 50 pounds to get it, as for orange new advertisement campaign due out soon to show off to people there 93 pcent coverage is almost borderline fraud, there signal is pathetic in most areas ive been to up and down the country more so inside, anyhow i will wait for vodafone to bring out there iphone see if its cheaper and despite there pay monthly tarrifs being just as bad atleast they do have proper 3g coverage inside and out

We (o2) have stopped selling the unlimited message bolt on now and only offer a 500 text bundle for £7.50, the fair usage on our unlimited internet packages is actually at 8GB a month. Hope this helps

Lets just wait for all the complaints heading over to Orange due to limited data allowance if anyone decides to stay with Orange & expects customer who don't read the service T&C's or claims "I DIDN'T KNOW". Time will tell if the Orange network can cope with the demand. Just for the sake of saving a few pennies & I mean a few pennies. This is a Apple product so expect paying for a premium brand.

O2 network have Unlimited Data/Excessive Usage Policy which means if you only slightly go over data threadhold allowance you will not been penalised BUT if this happens [excessively & very so often] that adversely impacts the service to other customers of O2 or The Cloud then O2 reserves the right to impose further charges, impose network protection controls which may reduce your speed of transmission or disconnect your tariff at any time, having attempted to contact you first with 30 days notice via official headed letter.

Remember that not everyone on O2 network that have a iPhone always downloads 24/7/365 continously hence the bandwidth will be shared around the network. If the network is heaviliy congested then this will affect everyone hence Unlimited Data/Excessive Usage Policy which is much more fairer system.

Yes, everyone would like to know exactly amount of call/text/data allowed on a monthly basis but if O2 network can support extra bandwidth to allow other customers to download then why not.

It is this service T&C's that a lot of O2 customers keep coming back all the time & staying with O2 for a long time & not basing their top priority on COST alone. What about GSM/GPRS coverage? After sales customer care? Deals & promotions like O2 Priority for tickets/concerts? If you pay peanuts then expect to get monkeys like anything you buy.
