S40 is simple, fast and most importantly, stable.

S60 is complicated, slow, unintuitive, buggy, and all round crap.

S40 is the reason nokia has a large market share, all those cheap 1,2,3,4,5, and 6 series handsets that last years and never have any problems. Nseries however are the most unteliable and problematic.

This is a bad move for nokia, all those people who want a simple no hassle handset (90% of the population) will have to choose Samsung, SE, or even Alcatel

Just get of S40 completely. It is useless, it's just a crippled S60.

at last Nokia as realised it been losing ground in the Top class mobile market an have to really start changing there strategy, hope the Software is easy to use an to get upgrades, they had to switch from the Symbian software because all the other companies were using it,but Nokia want there own, can"t wait to see there next Maemo mobile as the N900 was a bit to big an do not like the querty keypad as it make the mobile more broader an heavier

Bye S40, I loved you... I made my first steps in designing themes and games with S40, and I loved my S40 mobiles like 6230, 6230i, 6233, 6300 and 6303.

They are witnesses of a happy time in my life.

S40 was always clear, classic and basic.

for all the criticism thrown towards the S40. people fail to realize that S40 phones are the main reason that Nokia is the top cell phone manufacturer. These devices appeal to most people who just require a phone to make and receive calls, maybe check the mobile internet, listen to music as mp3 or radio. They don't generally need the other features that smartphone users require. as a cellphone trader i fail to see the gulf of difference in the S40 and iPhone beyond the smooth user friendliness of the iphone as it can't multitask just like the S40 phones and the app thing is overrated most ppl rarely use the apps after downloading them. i know so because i also do it for my clients who only see it as eye candy but rarely use them.

The S40 devices maybe relatively fewer next year but will not reduce in relevance as most gsm owners are not tech savvy enough to notice the difference between your almighty smartphones and these so called feature phones

being a fan of S40, This is bad news to me. Does this mean that devices such as 6700 will now have the added complication of S60. I just don't understand why multitasking on such devices is important, software stability and reliability are so much more important to me. This looks like Nokia is abandoning one of the more profitable nitches where it has a clear advantage. If I'm forced to learn a new operating system, why stick with nokia?

I originally choose Nokia because of it's abundant superiority at voice communication. I could here the telephone ring, it maintained reception even in the basement and the voice volume /clarity allowed communication in very noisy enviroments. All this in a stylish handset.

I buy other manufactures handset's regularly but none came close to performing as well as the S40 6 series handsets. I've tried few month trials with nokia e50, Apple iPHONE 3G, samsung M7500, SE W810. but always returned to S40. They, 6131 & 6500 & 6600 slide & 6303, just did what I use a mobile phone for; voice and SMS, much better than the competing brands.

I read in a national industrial newspaper here in Sweden tha Nokia are in negotiating right now to buy Palm. According to the article, Nokia is very keen on getting the rights to use Palms WEB OS in their phones. What is unclear is if Nokia will remove the Palm name altogether or just launch it as a new sub lineup, for ex "Nokia Palm" or something.

I think Palms WEB OS is the absolute best touchbased OS on the market right now. If this deal goes through and Nokia gets hold of WEB OS, it will be very exciting for the whole handset market. I can really see WEB OS going on to become a superior touchscreen leader with Nokias hardware and cunning market stratigies.

According to leaked rumor directly from Nokia. Nokia will release just 1 maemo device in 2010. Watching this graph shows that there will be 3 s40 phones and 5 symbian phones. Now, not only that Nokia is too weak to handle new OS(look how HTC handled Android), not only that Nokia will produce most symbian phones, but Nokias production falls down, which is clear sign that 2010 year might be the only chance to recover, assuming that people hate symbian and love Maemo and that there will be just 1 Maemo handset, it is clear that Nokia, once great giant, is going down to lower levels, and if they keep those production plans, what I predict will come true until most lately by 2014. After that, who knows, Nokia might recover. But honestly, would u now take milestone over hd2? I bet not, Motorola lost its reputation, Nokia and SE are next. We, people advance, they, producers(Nokia and SE) don't.

Nokia S40 versions could never satisfy their users in terms of numbers of software support and lack of multi-tasking with the device. With the passage of time at last Nokia seems to be emphasizing more on what people want and people want more smart phones.

One of the features of S40 were their light weight and slim body, example nokia 6300, 6500 as compared to S60 n-series like n72 and n73 which today substitute a paper weights in my office. Barring N79 to some extent, all other S60 were bulky. I am not blaming s60 for their weight but i am praising s40 for their light weight (may be because i am left with nothing else to praise about s40 now...lol).

But frankly speaking, I liked n-series a lot... still has that classic n73 with me and must say that that device was the beginning of the era of the beauty of the smart phones and the limit to which their functionality can be stretched to.
