The GSM encryption algorithm was broken

29 December, 2009
Put your tinfoil hats on - GSM encryption has been broken. This means that Evil Doers can listen in on your calls and read your SMS messages. Law enforcement agencies already have that capability...

i helped this project. think about it like this, the more secure we make the gsm, the harder it will be for the .gov and others.

duh this is not new in the Philippines. It was popularized by "Mr. Garci" when the Philippine President, allegedly cheated the election while using her mobile phone... and someone was eavesdropping and recorded it, and it was a sold across pirated shops in the country like a platinum hit.

I think just about everybody here can relax.

I am guessing that 99.99% of you guys are not important enough to eavesdrop on.

it's only natural, coz it's a 12... er... 13 years old encryption technology.
they should invent new technology asap.

What makes me sad really is that this technology that can be used to track down REAL criminals is being used by our government to spy on activists and we have evidence regarding this accusation

But some will surely pay for that hefty price to use in politics just like in the Philippines...
there was a case before that agency in the Philippines wiretapped the conversation of Gloria Macapagal Arroyo and a comelect official which is a forbidden act during period of election... but Gloria still became the president of the Philippines... "it was only lapse of judgment and does not in any way intends to affect the outcome of election" she quoted. "Am I a million votes ahead of the (contenders)" the question to the devious comelect official...

Dirty Politics, Plotical Killings, Philippines (PPP)... So Sad!

                            Hi
Now how can we secure our mobile phone calls? If any other person can listen our calls then he/she can blackmail to others?
                            Mobile companies should notice this.

                            Thanks

Anonymous, 31 Dec 2009I knew leaving TMobile for Sprint was a good idea lol... be... moreCDMA is freaking 40 years old who wants to crack that... it's basically a Ver. 2 of music radio technology that why it can't handle simultaneous transmission between data/voice. I personally not prefer CDMA simply because Verizon/Sprint is using the existing CDMA network which was built in the late 60s after WW2 and they charge ppl the same rate as other GSM provider which they shoot satellites up in the sky for... Verizon/Sprint just sit there and pretend they are up-to-date... And watch for the wave length from CDMA, they inject a lot of power to make it run 'fast' which may heat up your head and BTW that's what the 'upgrade' they have done to the old network.

And FCC is not doing anything about it while they charge phone company soooooooo much money for the frequency bands which we helped paid for?????? This is BS and stupid...

I don't think the SIM card needs to be in since you can make 911 call without SIM card.

Is this is true because i cant trust on it. I have read "The most widely used mobile-phone technology -- Global System for Mobile Communication (GSM) -- has been cracked" on http://www.techarena.in/news/25092-gsm-encryption-mobile-phones-has-been-breaked.htm and don't believe on it
